Didn't he get fired from Apple though? Eitherway I never gave a crap about apple products so...
He founded Apple and is, or was, the creative drive behind the company. He would never be fired. He stepped down after his condition worsened to a point where he felt he could not lead his company. Even if you don't have love for Apple, technology has been changed by Apple and it would not be where it is without him. He was a good man.

He was fired about 20 years ago, but came back when his wife's computer company was bought by Apple.

I am thinking of wearing a black turtleneck tommorow in his honor. The only thing kind of holding me back would be if people found it offensive. Would any of y'all find it offensive?
YES. That is SO OFFENSIVE. I mean REALLY, a BLACK TURLENECK?! Could you POSSIBLY be more crass. HORRID. JUST HORRID.
Thank you, your sarcasm is much appreciated.
Well they might think you were making fun of him; but they probably wouldn't connect it at all.
I have a circle of friends who are BIG fans of Apple and I was just wondering if they would think I was teasing them in some cruel way (as I am not a procurer of Apple products) or they would see it as a way of honoring the death of Jobs.

That's the one thing that makes us all equal in the end but what we do before that is what define us as human beings and he did a lot, a whole lot of good things. May he always be remembered through his legacy and may his spirit rest in peace.
And he did far more then those making petty childish jokes in this thread could ever hope to do.

They'd probably think you were being cruel, if you don't buy Apple products. That's my guess.

Sorry, I thought he was talking about recently. I am aware of his leave and eventual return to Apple. You have to understand that was over a decade ago when I was not quite at an age of reason so it simply slipped my mind.

I don't think they'd see it as that unless they themselves are extremely petty.

But then I remembered that I don't really use Apple products. Not that Apple was the only thing his life was worth, but I didn't actually know him or anything. Uh...right.

For your hand in popularizing personal computers and GUIs (I so don't miss 'having' to type command lines all the time), Pixar, iPod, and iPhone (thought not the 'i' itself -that still annoys me), etc, etc. Even the staunchest Apple-haters probably enjoy something on a nearly daily basis that you helped popularize, many without ever realizing it. Rest well.

I never met him but I have met people who worked for him at Apple. Through their impressions he certainly is a "unique" personality and an icon in the tech field for sure. I'm not a particular fan of some of his decisions in business behind Apple and am more of a fan of Steve Wozniak but Jobs had his own creative magic of a sort.
I'm not a religious sort but I hope Steve Jobs finds peace.

I don't go reading the obituaries saying RIP to every single person on those pages, I have no intention of doing so to SJ. I find it strange that when someone is famous for something everyone says comments like RIP and populate the web with such messages but it is only because they are famous for something and that something is not solving world hunger or bringing about world peace, it's merely making a product or being seen in a film, or singing a song. If you read or watch the news, on it you will see people dying all the time for many reasons and some far worse ways to go than others yet you don't say RIP out loud to those, so why to celebrities... This mindset of saying it for famous people on the net is dubious imho you don't know him, you just know of him.
Agreed. I don't know him so it doesn't phase me in the slightest. He was a smart businessman not a god like some people are saying. There are much more deserving people of being called a "god" who didn't try to sell me something that would be outdated in a few months.
