Seriously what is this? Some Twilight sh*t? Are we gonna have "Team Garrus" and "Team Kaidan" T-shirts now? If so, I quit this fandom.
You cannot possibly quantify the contributions that any of these characters made because its different for everyone. I'm positive that Bioware never intended for you to dislike another character because you like another one. That's so stupid I could spit.
NO!

I for one like all the character for their flaws and actions. There is not a single character that I actually hate. Because its a damn game, a story set to entertain us. If there was no drama between characters these games wouldn't be engaging. I wouldn't have teared up on Horizon when the VS called my Shepard a traitor for working for a black ops group that kills and murders for their own gain. I wouldn't have cheered listening to Shepard give a passionate speech to keep Tali from being exiled. I wouldn't have been worried as I watched Garrus sink deeper into his need for vengeance.
What do you want? For everyone to bow and bend knee to the almighty Shepard? Or do you want a story about the struggle of a group of people as they try to save the galaxy? If you want the latter than there will be arguments and there will be disagreements. And there will be freaking drama.
Step back for once and see the story as a whole, not your own self important views.

still vaguely bemused by the idea that Ash and Kaidan are obligated to apologize to Shepard aabout something.
This is why I think the apology should come from Bioware in general The whole frakking scene is one big screwup.

Did anyone ever stop and think, 'hey wait a minute, Bioware must have written these characters this way to inspire high emotions from us!"? Listening to everyone **** and moan saying 'my favorite character is better than your favorite character is really getting old.' Grow up and enjoy the show people, really.

I kinda understand the point Kaidan/Ashley are making though.
But Shepard has to save a galaxy from the Reapers. Not contacting everyone and telling them your back.

No, I always felt Shepard *really* needed to contact everyone and tell them he's back. That's why I went to the Citadel first thing during my first playthrough only to discover the Council had already written me off as a Cerberus traitor. What the ****, Council, I haven't even *done* anything with Cerberus yet other than *bring you their ship*!LiveLoveThaneKrios wrote...

Because not everyone is as cool and smart and sexy as the two of us. They just don't operate on our level. We're enlightened, they're not. We see an interesting cast, they see a competition.Badpie wrote...

Hey now, I've already stated that I love all the characters (except Zaeed cuz, f*ck that guy right?) It'sjust that I hate that "oh ali and garrus are the REAL best friends cuz they don't get mad at Shepard" that's a double edged sword bro, they're terrorists too and I need them to back me up on the reaper thing. Not good.AdmiralCheez wrote...

Even if they do become Spectres in ME3, apparently they're still following Shepard around, if they're in the Normandy. So they've achieved helping him in ME1, though not being plot-relevant, still helping; Ditched him in ME2; And provided redundant backup Spectre support in ME3. Cool.
Whereas Tali is the sole reason Shepard becomes a Spectre and gets command of the Normandy in the first place, while she and Garrus stay with Shepard rather than, oh, I don't know, trying to enlist in the Alliance military to make redundant favourable human-military history for Shep's cause, and help him *NOT* die on his suicidal mission, thus saving the galaxy.
Quarian testimony to peacefully working with a Geth *may* just prove helpful in ME3; I don't know, I didn't make the rules. The Rebel Turian is probably still just Shepard's constant companion, but no shame in that, there were only ever two.
I wonder what's going to make Ash/Keydin so special in ME3? They're the newly formed Super Spectres, with the abilities too... I don't know, operate even higher above the law than Shepard? Or are they somehow essential to saving Shepard with Joker and EDI (Plus Vega) already onboard and actually flying? I suppose someone had to take up even more room on the cargo ramp and greet Shepard when he jumped on it. Ah well.

Wanna restate that? Sounds like you're saying Tali & Garrus are terrorists by association, which isn't good because you need Tali and Garrus to back you up on the Reapers. Mmk?
And I just like providing counterflaming to the few all-too-vocal Ash/Keydin fanatics, who feel the urge to bash anyone else contesting their characters. Gives me something to do in between chapters.

also Shepard is a terroists being affiliated with cerberus. They're with Shepard. so yes they are terroists by association for serving on a terroist Ship. When they step up to bat for Shepard to the authoriites they'llbe labeled as terroists and their words will fall upon deaf ears thus proving that their help is useless as they chose to serve on a terroist ship, especially after the events of arrival with the destruction of the Bahak system.

"You got arrested, too?"
"Well, uh, we figured we'd stick it out with you 'til the end, Commander."
"YOU GUYS. GOD DAMN IT. YOU'RE LIKE SHEEP."
"You love us."
"Only for your body, Garrus. Now shut it."
But honestly, I think the whole TALI AND GARRUS ARE BETTER FRIENDS thing is stupid, because what makes a character "better" is entirely subjective. Yes, I feel that Team Dextro deserve points for being the most loyal, but I also don't hate the VS for not dropping everything and joining up. Their suspicion is as valid as Dextro's trust, in my opinion, and that's because those characters each have a different set of values.
However, certain things, like Team Dextro pretty much loving you no matter what and Kaidan and Ashley fusing into one character, irk me to no end, but I think that's more a writing oversight than a character flaw.

Meh, I don't see the relevance of the boring, headache prone whiner or the xenophobe wannabe poet that you're saddled with first thing, but to each their own, I guess. Now what makes them so important after originally being auto-slapped into the Normandy and not really affecting anything beyond that, and then abandoning Shep in ME2, I don't know.
Guess we're not done bashing characters, huh?

And Shepard's a Spectre. He escapes with the help of... Well, Joker & EDI, and nobody else except Anderson (Who's likely not much help, TBH). Vega and the VS just get to stand on the ramp looking fancy and saying hello.
Being said Spectre, after he's back in his ship, he can do f*ckall. Especially because nobody's going to be in any position to say "Wait, but you worked with Cerberus at one point, yes?" When their homeworlds are burning around them.
EDIT: Meh, when I feel provoked. Not good to bottle up feelings, much better to sit back, sip your drink and let your flaming fingers fly freely. Fiddlesticks.
