 Hey.  So I have an issue that im pretty concerned about.  I recently reinstalled my OS ( windows 7 )  But before doing so, I made sure to back up my save games from ME 2.  After reinstalling the OS, I reinstalled ME 2, got all the dlc that I had for it, and threw my save games back into the appopriate folder ( the documents/bioware/mass effect 2/save )

Well now whenever I try to load the career up, the game just crashes.  If I try to start a new game using my ME 2 save...it crashes.  I can start a new game using my ME 1 save but not with the ME 2 saves.  I mean I beat the game and got done everything that I wanted done,  but I'm mainly concerned if I'm going to be running in to problems when trying to start a new game on ME 3 using the ME 2 saves.  I also would like to try starting a new game using my ME 2 save so I can get all those bonuses and stuff and explore different avenues of play.  I've looked around, contacted bioware, tried everything I can think of, but nothing works.

System Specs:
Processor: I7 2600K
GPU: EVGA GTX 590
RAM: Ripjaw 8GB
Sound Display adapter: Sound blaster Audigy SE ( Driver version: 5.12.1.512 )
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate
Direct X Version: 10.0 ( March 2009 or later )

The only thing that springs to mind, is possibly you not backing up your player1.prf file which contains your achievements, and thus not having the bonus powers activated is causing the crash.
Create a keybind that will grant you all the achievements, start a new game, run it, and then try and load a save.
Instructions here;

Did you just back up the save games, or did you also back up the directory structure as well?

Not sure what you mean. I basically just took the whole Mass effect 2 folder from documents/bioware

Thats what I meant about directory structure. Some people just back up the actual files, and not the folders containing them, and sometimes that can cause problems.

Try creating a new character the same name and class of one of your old ones, save it once you have spoken to TIM, then delete all the files out of that folder, and replace it with the files from one of your older saves.

Figured it out! I guess the quicksave file that was in the career folder was messing with things. So I just deleted it and I was able to load from the autosave file. That's a load off the shoulders :P Thanks for the help man!

Generally, both Autosave and Quicksave are less stable than a named save, and can become corrupted somewhat more easily. Some of us disable all Autosaves, and make allowances for the potential problems with Quicksaves.

Never had a problem with Auto or Quick save in ME2. Three of my gaming friends also play ME2. No problems with it either.

Just bad luck I reckon. Profile file issues notwithstanding.
