@ FreyarS then can you explain how the 360 consoles are already up and playing. Arent they breaking the street date by doing so? Guess I will know for sure later today. If I do download and am able to start playing I will re-post here or message you and let you know, I will also let yhou know if I cant.

Yes, and Microsoft is in the habit of banning Xbox Live accounts that show early playtime on games.  It happened with Halo ODST, it could very well happen with DAO if the issue is pushed by someone influential.

i doubt many stores broke the date, but piracy starts from some of those stores... anyone playing and talking about it, has a much higher risk of being a pirate than a friend of a store owner..

You'd be surprised. This kind of thing happens all the time, which only contributes to the "online activation" schemes some publishers have been trying to pull.

Thank you all for the excellent clarifications, I am afraid there are going to be a great deal of disappointed consumers come 10am today..........hope customer service can handle the rage! I on the other hand will take it as one of lifes little lessons and try to be more aware the next time.

Again thank you all and look forward to seeing some of yur game activity up on the network next week.

Where did you read that people were going to be able to play it? Or was it just a misunderstanding with D2D's e-mail?

So, to get this straight:

I preload full game on Nov 1 but the executible is encrypted.

Then, on Nov 3, at 10 am or noon, depending on whether I got it from steam or D2D, it will decrypt the exe file and check for zero day patches. Then I would receive an unlock key in an email.

At this point, I can install and run the game correct?

Here is my dilemma. I am flying out of the country on Nov 3 in the morning. So if I preload on nov 1st, is it possible to get the decryption and unlock key on nov 3 at an airport on wifi while waiting during a layover to another flight?

You'll need to start it manually. When it will start is just "sometime" tomorrow. I'd expect it to be later in the day on West Coast time. Remember that they (and at least the rest of the US except Arizona) set their clocks back an hour tonight.

Whoops, totally forgot about that -_-

Thanks for the reminder!

And no one knows when precisely the preload is. Check in the mid to late afternoon, it will probably be up by then.

With Steam, it's really a case of decrypting (which will require access online, with Ports 27014 to 27050 TCP). Once that's done, you should be able to launch the game in offline mode, though I hear it's a bit tricky to deal with. (Make sure you switch to offline mode before you lose access to the internet.)

The key itself should be tied to the game itself after you install it. Keys are typically found by right-clicking on the game, and selecting "View CD-Key".

It was obviously a misunderstanding in the email but I never saw it until this thread was able to explain it to me. I am sure a lot of other people are operating under the same misunderstanding.........I know a number of my friends are anticipating game time today.

Thanks for this thread or I never would have found that out.
