PC Data:
1. Mass Effect 2 physical disc, version 1.02 (patch downloaded from bioware.com);
2. AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+|2859 MHz (10% A.I. Overclock)|3,49 GB RAM;
Galaxy NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS, 256MB VRAM, driver version 280.26 (downloaded from nvidia.com);
SoundMAX HD Audio, integrated on motherboard, driver version 5.10.1.6110;
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3;
DirectX 9.0c (Mar2009) or later (actually it's Nov2010).
Issue:
1. What? The screen starts 'snowing' (interference-like, or when the old TVs didn't get the signal);
2. When? 30 seconds after launching the game, and then repeatedly every 30 seconds after 'refreshing';
3. Where? Menus, cutscenes and movies, during the game itself;
4. What was I doing? Just launching the game I guess;
5. Modified? No. Also the same problem occured before and after installing 1.02 patch.
What is happening:
- the game still works, as well as sound, so eg. during the first cutscene things go boom and people scream but no visual of this, just snowing;
- I can 'reset' this crash by alt+tabbing to any windows window or mozilla or anything and back to the game, but after another 30 secs graphics crashes again;
What I tried to do:
- I tried with different configuration setups, like full-graph, low-graph and so on;
- I tried with different graphics card drivers - the latest and 4 previous ones;
- updated the directx version;
- reinstalled the game;
- I had the same problem with Mass Effect 1 but solved it somehow using methods above;

1) Please register the game on the forums. This is not an accusation, but given the spate of users with illegally downloaded copies coming to the forums asking for help, forum registration is the only way we can be sure we are dealing with a legit copy. Illegally downloaded copies include hacked and modified files which could be either corrupt, or full of malware. Once its registered, we will be happy to help. Forums Registration here;

2) Please post a full problem report as per this thread: http://social.biowar...6/index/4795299

Allright, I gave 'em real old graphics driver and besides some problems with explosion effects the game works just fine.
'Tis like this: driver ver. from '280.26' to '91.something' (got it with the card).
Though I'm not considering the problem solved.

I would suggest something in between, such as 197.xx, neither quite so old, nor anything at all like as new as what you tried before.

Yeah, downloading 182.06 now. I'll post the outcome in a moment.

Ok, 182.06 is stable but same as 91.sth bears some displaying issues including streched polygons, unatural lighting, lack of complex color usage and lags even while entering another room through the normal door (on the same level).

Trying 190.62 release now. The topic's problem is present.
I'll check out older drivers. 186.18 now. Still present.
Trying 182.50. This one's fine.

What resolution, and visual details do you have enabled? Being such an old card, with minimum amount of video memory, it would have to be run at low res, with all settings switched off.

I tried with everything off and on, also on different resolutions 1024 x 768, 1440 x 900 (this one is my basic on 16:10 display that I have) and 1600 x 1400 (the right edge of the screen was 'lost' beside the display).

You could try the MassAffinity program, although Im not sure how much of an effect that will have. Its primarily designed to speed up loading times on multi-core systems, but with AMD cpu's being reknowned for having 2 cores running at slightly different clock speeds, it might be worth a shot.

Windowed mode might also fix it. Some people report the game runs smoother in windowed mode than it does full screen.
