There's a Mod you can download if you're playing on a PC or a Mac, I think it's called, "Personal Annoyance Remover"? It Hides sustained effects at all times tho, not just during conversations.
I dont know of a way to do it if you're playing on a PS3 or an Xbox, Sorry D:
