Hey all.

I wonder how long a response will take, if any is able to be given, seeing as the last time someone posted anywhere in this forum was nearly two weeks ago.  Anyway...

My game keeps crashing whenever I try to go through the Necropolis entrance in the Golden Way, right where the guard tries to warn you about it the first time.  It consistently crashes.  Sometimes it crashes right away and other times the loading bar seems to be 100% filled, but then it crashes and I get the wonderful "Jade Empire: Special Edition has stopped working..." message.

I've tried using a save I have from 3 hours earlier, but nothing.  What I don't understand is that I've played for nearly 30 hours with no problems.

I'm in the process of joining the Black Leopard school and then I'll be done with everything there is currently to do in the Imperial City, save for all quests and side quests in the Necropolis.  And of course, I can't get to the Necropolis if the game keeps crashing on me.  (If it means anything, I have the favor of both the Executioners and Inquisitors.)

I have the Special Edition, Steam version of the game. I'm running it on my laptop, which has Windows 7 64-bit.  It has 3GB of RAM and a NVIDIA GeForce 9100M G TurboCache card.  Not the greatest, I know, but it plays the games I have well.

Help would be much appreciated!  I hope my saves aren't corrupted or anything...

Could be! You might want to upload a save somewhere, so we can test it.

If you don't have a site of your own... rapidshare.com, megaupload.com, or somesuch.

pecoes: I really appreciate you trying to help me out. Strangely, I'm more disappointed than angry at the potential of losing about 28 hours of gameplay. If the saves really are corrupted, and nothing can be done, I won't be coming back to this game for a while so I can get rid of my disappointment and anger.

I also tried doing what this guy here (http://lionhead.com/...46/3680328.aspx) did for his corrupted Fable III files. Not the same I know, but I'm desperate to try anything that won't result in the loss of 28 hours of gameplay.

Anyway, here are 3 save files from my game. The Auto Save and Save 4 being the ones where I'm furthest along and Save 1 being just after I talked to the guard about the Necropolis, but not actually trying to go in:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=VBDPKG03 (Save 1 - 26h 29min - level 14)

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=HJ2UHZ67 (Auto 3 - 28h 31min - level 15)

http://www.filefacto...3301/n/save.sac (Save 4 - 28h 32min - level 15)

[EDIT] Again, I've done everything I can do in the Imperial City, except for joining the Black Leopard school.  I was going to help some girl get an artifact in the Necropolis first and then find an arsonist before I joined the school, and that is when I ran into this problem of mine.

[EDIT 2] Just finished the Black Leopard school and sided with Master Smiling Hawk.  Same problem... :crying:

I tried Save 1 and Save 4. They were both fine. I could enter the Necropolis without problems.

The saves may not be corrupted, but since you've made this far into the game without problems, I still think a corrupted file is the culprit. Maybe reinstalling the game will work...

EDIT:

Maybe it's also a good idea to try some general maintenance. You could try to run chkdsk (with switch /f) over the hard drive.

I really appreciated the help pecoes, thank you very much.

I "psuedo" reinstalled it, in that I backed up the files for the game, deleted everything else, and installed from the backup Steam file. After about a 150MB "update," the game was done. I copied over my saves, tried entering the Necropolis, and I got in!

Thanks again.

There appears to be some significant problems with the PC port. People have reported a number of crashes. I don't recall the game ever crashing on me for the original console version, and I've completed the game more than two dozen times.

Even worse, the technical FAQ at the old site is no longer accessible.
