I have the DLC item packs I and II.  If I don't open the chests in Gamlen's house in Act 1, will they transfer to the new house in Act 2?

Most of the Blood Mage Hawke pointers I read say to wait until the second specialization point for Blood Magic  Does the same advice apply to Merrill (waiting till a higher level for blood magic)?  I usually switch Merrill to blood magic right at level 7 and do okay.  Better to wait?

The answer to your first question is yes.

I do not know about your second question because I don't use that part of her specialization, but if you're doing ok with it then knock yourself out. I imagine doing it later would just mean you have more HP for her, don't know, I really dislike the BM specialization in DA2.

1) Yes.

2) I often hold off until level 10, since you pick up Wounds of the Past at 11 and you want to be dropping that everywhere always as soon as possible. But if it's working for you earlier, go ahead and use it earlier. A backup mana pool is never a bad thing, particularly in long battles of attrition like the mine dragon or the rock wraith.

Thanks for the info. For gameplay reasons, I'll hold off on the DLC items and just consider them part of the Deep Roads treasure when I return. I missed hunting down new equipment and slowly building inventory when I used the DLC.

Merrill worked fine with blood magic at level 7, but I'll hold off this time just to try something new.
