Khelgar equipped with Tower Shield? Really? Come one guys. I mean, what the heck are the guys thinking? Dwarf carrying a Tower Shield?

I finished the game using Khelgar + Greataxes ( Typical Dwarf Setup ). Now I want to try Khelgar with his ultimate weapon, which frees my off-hand. So I decided to give a shield. But a Tower Shield on a Dwarf looks so horrendous. If it weren't for those AC's, I wouldn't be equipping him with those.

Dwarves are strong and short. I find the idea of Khelgar hiding behind a tower shield, going through enemies like a bulldozer, to be totally appropriate. That's how I played him in my single run through the OC.

I guess you find the concept of Dwarven Defenders unthinkable as well.  Funny thing, I can't think of any non-Games Workshop dwarves ever being depicted without shields.  I wonder where you cut your gaming teeth?

But you are right that Khelgar specifically is not meant for tower shields.  His true destiny is yellow pajamas - no stranger than half the things in Faerun.

I usually slap a large shield on him. If memory serves, tower shields come with an attack bonus penalty. Not that I am crazy about the bulkiness of shields in general. My first NWN2 bard fought with a longsword and small shield. The large ones looked better suited to someone in full plate. Tower is worse still.

heh, first time i played NwN2 i wanted to keep it simple,
so I took a Dwarven Fighter ..

met Khelgar and it was like, Buddy!!!

we were side by side that whole campaign, wall o steel!
when the mob switched off onto one,
the other unloaded the shield for heavy two-hander damage :)

yeh, Monkey Grip too.

I have a bigger problem with taking khelgar along than having him with a tower shield.

There is a whole scale issue here though. You pick up a suit of armour and it fits the dwarf, lo and behold it also fits the thiefling, and Elanee and ....

My point being that a tower shield is simply one which covers several locations (arm, chest abdomen etc) this is crudely converted to an AC bonus under the AD&D system. A tower shield to a dwarf might be the size of a large shield to a human or a buckler to an ogre just as a tower shield for an ogre would be a siege shield four a team of four men (or ten halflings) though clearly it would need wheels.

So a dwarf with a tower shield? Why not ...

Having khelgar in the party ... Why? Posted Image

Two-handed warhammer is the way to go with Khelgar.

But I once turned him into a monk and he bulldozed everything in his way.

You guys can never imagine what i did,

I let Khelgar use Towershield + Unarmed strike + med armor.

He can let several enemies casters down in couple rounds. Stunning fist + Chain of freedom +Haste + knock down....awesome.

Only one problem, the AI is dumb... and i have to controll Khelgar myself.....
