But in digital sales they have to pay Valve the sum or any other D2D service provider. It is funny how you think that Valve is some charity organization.

No, I know Valve get's it share.

Though it's stil cheaper then to copy game on disks, make cover for it and send to retailer to sell it.

They will absolutely taking their share and retail is not losing anything in the price margin espacially when they are promoting the games and usually even sell them with a higher price.

They sell those retail games on higher price do to higher cost to get them to retailer.

While with Digital selling, they can sell the games much cheaper, a lot of people will buy it do to that and gain much more profit.

Why do you think EA is pushing their own D2D service?

DLC's.
EA wants to sell DLC's from their own site, instead of Steam, which ain't free.

So that's the reason there's no Crysis 2 and Dragon Age 2 on Steam anymore and we probably won't see Battlefield 3 either( there are last minute talks to bring that game on Steam).

Oh and EA is still a bit greedy.

wait what? do you realize that the reason steam is so popular is becasue they often sell games cheaper, right? no, I guess you do not. and sure companies pay a small percentage to digital distributor but its nowhere NEAR what they have to pay for selling hard copies through brick and mortar stores.

Care to post some statistics to back that up? Show me one developer who says how much they pay to Valve. You have no idea. If Valve is saying that steam is making them rich they sure as hell are taking their share.

Valve easily takes what ever the store takes or the making of the disc costs. When it comes to Microsofts and sonys cut well that is already  put in the price of the console game.

Yep read it. Then spend some time checking the sales numbers on ANY multiplatform title. Pc always sells less and gets pirated to hell and back.

You have no idea witch is cheaper. To make the game and get the promotion etc the stores around the world offer. Or to give Valve their cut. Why? Because you have no Idea how much Valve takes.

Also you have no idea how much a game sells through when it discounted on steam. But I can show you how many people don't pay a single penny for a pc game. How many persons have the game on their pc at the moment and have not  paid a single penny and how many is getting the games on their computer at the moment for free.

EA doesn't want Valve to take their share. If steam would be such a goldmine for all the publishers they would not take these steps.

and you speak like you do know how much valve takes and for some reason you are convinced that its more then what it costs to actually manufacture a physical copy of the game and then ship it to stores, and since you don't really want to run out of copies, you usually end up manufacturing extras that most often don't sell so you lose some money on that.

do you know why kindle, nook etc are popular? (in case you are not aware of what they are - they are digital book readers) because they save their costumers physical space and they save publishers on printing costs, thus making them more profit. the same applies to video games.

Well, yeah. Sales figures that tend not to look at digitial distrubion for one reason or another - Valve are pretty coy about releasing steam figures, for one - and focus on retail are going to give that impression.

Can you now? That's pretty awesome, considering every official source I've ever seen says they can't actually quantify how many game copies are pirated and how many are purchased legitimately.

Im not saying they make more or less. Im just saying you don't know. I didn't bring this up in this thread. Oh and nice jump to kindle etc...

You are comparing a 600 page book to a single dvd and a plastic cover :D On top of that games in retail have a higher price to begin with.

Yep I can. Just check any torrent site. It shows you leechers and peers. You do know what those mean don't you. Also take time to find any multiplatform game. There is no game that is pirated more on consoles than on pc.

Obviously no company is going to release those figures as it's under a NDA. But the companies wouldn't sell their games through Steam if they didn't make a hefty profit from it. Additionally, Steam is making Valve rich because a lot of people buy their games from there, and the percentage they get from each sale is enough to keep them going.

Long and short, Bioware/EA have a much better idea of what makes economic sense for them than anyone posting on this thread.

They keep making versions for the PC, so it must keep making them enough money to make sense to do.

Lol Digital Downloads are way better for gaming companies.

Making the DVDs, their cases and getting them shipped costs A LOT. Plus, the guys at the shops add a nice weight to the games' prices to make their big profitz.

Digital Download is better for everyone.
You might pay 30$ for a DD and almost all of that goes to the gaming company.
Where you might pay 60$ at a game stop, and only 15~20$ go to the gaming company, the rest going for the distribution, manufacturing, and the distributor.

That's why EA broke off with Steam. They wanna charge 30$ for a DD and get all that money themselves. Pretty obvious that PC gaming is still in a lot of money.
