uh.....because I have been a WoD storyteller since I was in my final high school years from 1997 on?

Consider me suitably amazed.

Because I know that when you craft a story there NEED to be boundries or else the stories you craft fopr you players completely fall apart?

The lack of imagination available to other people is no fault of mine.

crimzontearz wrote...
Sure THOSE boundries are much much looser but they need to be there (hence the inside joke of the "slip-falls-dies" characters). Players and Storytellers strike a balance in order for the story to actually work and move forward otherwise sessions and chronicles get ruined

The failings of other people are not my fault. At what point does your argument connect with my desire to do something in this particular game that does not seem to be impossible?

crimzontearz wrote...
Storyteller: You find one of your ghouls tied in your master bedroom, torn to pieces. Her entrails are arranged on the floor in a ritualistic pattern and with her bodily fluids someone has written on the wall "I know your secret".....

Player: meh.......I never liked that ***** anyway. I kill the rest of my ghouls, freeze all my assets and go to torpor for 150 years............next............

Cool story?

crimzontearz wrote...
seriously at this point you are being ridiculous if you consider the context of your argument

Can we not say much the same of your views viewing them from the same context? They are the same argument, changing their skin does not make them different.

Furthermore...depends on what you mean by "lose"

"Reapers harvest the galaxy" lose.

Lack of imagination has nothing to do with your players (usually 1 out of 4) screwing with the story for whatever reason. In a TT game it's easy to regain control and as such boundries are loose but this a Videogame. A videogame has much stricter boundried because the medium that supports it has much less freedom of production hence why you can't fly to unexplored regions of the galaxy that were not created by the developers for you to go and explore. My arguments take into consideration the nature of the medium and the rationale behind the simple fact that utter freedom is not possible in a videogame (not yet)......yours do not, and at this point I'm just going to stop argument since this particular debate has outlived its interest or usefulness given your last rebuke to me.

as for your other statement, I doubt it. Yet, there are games that, depending on your desires for the ending, do just that. One example would be Planescape torment

Actually that ending DOES exsist...the Reapers can in fact win, Bioware has told us so.

it's the closest thing you get to playing real ADnD in a CRPG manner (alone of course). Lenghty story, plenty of well fleshed out companions....hilarious banter.....and even back then they managed to give RPG depths to the inventory and character customization while keeping static outfits for the characters (Bioware should learn that)

Because the game should make me care enough to not want to lose, and to be affected by losing anyway. I should be engaged, should understand and attempt to empathise with the plight of the characters, and still be able to accept that sometimes losing is all that happens.

I dunno if a total loss would be possible in that case.  But in ME2 you can get everyone loyal and still loose a third of your squad and your entire crew if you make bad endgame choices

Right? and in this topic nobody has budged an inch! Everyone is still argueing the same point of views.

Welcome to BSN dude. Heavy Bias and the mods abuse their power when you trash talk ME2 and ME2 fans.

unless offset by an oipposite outcome that would ****** off so many people that it would absolutely kill re-playability

not many people at all would find that ending satisfying

I'm still not seeing the point.  becasue not only it brings replayability down to zero, it also makes the game completely and utterly pointless.  even in real life, you don't always lose and most of the times, trying hard enough actualy results in a win.

why would I care for characters or what happens if they all die anyways?  why do I keep trying if no matter what I do will result in a loss anyways.  hope to win is only there as long as there's basis for it.  in a video game, once you know that nothing you do results in a win?  you might as well put the game aside and play something that's not this much of a waste of time.  if you want to lose?  play the worst possible outcome. making it the only outcome?  the phrase goes - I want to have what he's smoking, but honestly? I don't.

I loved that game!  everyone praises the bloodlines and it IS a lot of fun, but redemption has a special place in my heart.  becasue you COULD have your happy ending.. of sorts (hey it wasn't perfect, but it was still quite nice), if you wanted to... but you could also do... other things.

bloodlines killed the systems, blocked progression, offered stereotypical characters and disciplines and all in all I sincerely freaking Doubt Caine would be a goddamn taxy driver!

Redemption was awesome!

Nowhere did I say I wanted losing to be the only outcome. You have constantly attacked a viewpoint and argument that I am not making for no reason that I can determine, and have constantly attempted to undermine the point I actually wish to make by diverting me from what I am actually discussing. Why do you do this? Is beating up a man made out of hay fun for you?

I don't think many people consider losing a satisfying ending.
