@ Wulfram: that's why I said "very much the same." Alistair isn't exactly the same, but as long as it's King Alistair, he basically has the same general personality he did when he was a Warden. So what if he's changed his mind about mages? He was never hardcore anti-mage, unlike Sten. Are people not allowed to change positions on certain subjects?

I know that President Lincoln's views on slavery and emancipation changed over time. He was never an actual abolitionist and in his early days as a political figure even believed that under constitutional law, the existing institution of slavery in southern states was protected. It was only after some years that he edged closer to abolitionist views (though he was never actually one), and it was especially during the Civil War years that he actually started to view blacks in a different light and that they (at least those slaves who enlisted as soldiers) were possibly entitled to representation and rights as citizens (for a long time, Lincoln was a colonizationist).

Gee, good thing President Lincoln was an intelligent man who was flexible and allowed himself to grow, and whose worldview wasn't set in stone. I'm sure he would've made for a terrible NPC companion, what with his predilection for change and all.
