I found this recently over on the wiki and I thought it was worth discussing

http://www.eurogamer...l-us-what-to-do

This article is actutally quite old but i couldn't find a realted thread, If this has been brought up before please feel free to lock this and link to the previous thread.

after reading this article i immediately screamed:
"THEN WHY WAS DA2 SO OBVIOUSLY A RUSH JOB!"

The easy answer is that Greg and Ray are being less then completely honest. If not that then could Bioware have pushed it out early for some other reason? Maybe they needed the cash for SWtOR?

Edit: I Just wanted to thank Stanely Woo for his thoughtful responses and giving so much of his time to talk to us here. He has cemented himself as my personal favorite Bioware Employee on these boards. Please join me in takeing the time to give a quick thanks to Stan is future posts.

[Sorry, had to finally correct the thread title.]

There's a related thread in the Registered Game Owners forum, just FYI.

I wouldn't accuse them of being dishonest, necessarily - but one has to wonder why the game was given such a short development time.

When we hear that time/budgetary pressures were at least partly responsible for a lot of the issues people have with DA2 - repeated environments and a lack of content, especially - I'm struck that there must've been a good reason why it was released so quickly.

I just can't understand what that reason could possibly be.

it's the kind of game you can sink a lot of time into and have a great time throughout.

GOD BLESS BIOWARE AND GOD BLESS DRAGON AGE II! AMEN!

After having read that article my question still stands: if they claim to put so much time and effort in their games, re-play them several times before release, pay attention to feedback...why didn't all of this happen with Dragon Age 2 then???

The cynical side of me says that it's harder to sell DLC (especially item packs) when there's user-created content out there, content that's much easier for players to create with a toolset.

The warm and fuzzy side of me says that it could be because everyone at Bioware is madly scrambling to create DLC and they don't have the time to prepare a toolset for public release.

Didn't the game industry learn this lesson when Freedom Force tried the same thing and lost all fan support?

The fanbase extends far beyond people who can actually use the toolset.

Also, "listening to the fanbase" does not obligate us to agree with you or obey you.

As said in the other thread, not thinking about the commercial elements is most likely what lead to Bioware being bought by EA in the first place.

I've never used the toolset i play on the 360 and as far as BioWare isnt obligated to agree with or obey the fans, that's fine but you would be smart to do so because we by your games. At least in building a consensus on what direction to go of course the final decision is your's at BioWare.

You expect them to cram everything the community wants into what they release?

It was just plain dumb but they are probably somewhat butthurt with all the criticism. Understandable still not a smart thing to say.

buthurt ? they earn money with us costumers and we treated like this ...no sir , that aint right.
they gotta stomach it.

and im angry with them , because they had a desireable philosophy in the past that made me buy their games , now theyre just the opposite of it and im protesting.
