I believe a dev said they had to somehow raise the female characters' height to make translating the animations from the male characters to them easier and high heels fit the bill.

I cant remember the first game having problems with that.

In which game? ME3?

In ME2 femshep is still shorter than male shep (easily noticeable in numerous ways... the biggest being that when femshep meets Jacob for the first time she's staring at his chin rather than into his eyes since she's shorter than male shep and they didn't compensate for the height difference).

I noticed in ME2 Miranda would go into battle with high heels, I found this laughable. Not only would a real female soldier not go into battle with high heels, but if Miranda were real I don't think she would either.

I was pleased to see the new costume for Miranda in the ME2 DLC, it was less revealing and the shoes looked better, while still being a bit heeley.

So I ask the web community, do you want to see more realism in ME3? No high heals while female soldiers run into battle, armour that doesn't look like it could deflect a cream bun, or are you happy to accept the sexualisation of female characters?

Discuss.

S'F'

Yeah, I'd prefer it if the ladies in ME2 (and ME3) were dressed at least a little bit appropriately. I'm sure armour can be made to look practical AND sexy. BTW I just googled "sexy armour" and found this photo of a real suit of armour:

LOL

Okay, so the ass cleavage is probably not great, but that's a real suit ffs! I'm sure artists could come up with something much better, without resorting to this:

Good Lord, people are being silly here.
It's dumb to say that because of the implausability of the Mass Effect universe we should excuse things like Ashley's outfit (which we didn't and it was made proven casual) or high heels. Those are two comePLETEly different types of realism.

I don't like the high hEEls either, OP, but I think it's too late now.

I was going to go on a bit of rant, but this sums it up pretty nicely.

Even if Mass Effect is fantasy (I'd like to think it's Sci-Fi myself) there still needs be some degree of "realism". I doubt for instance many people would be interested in this game if humans had monkey tails. Even though this is fiction for it to actually be immersive it can't be entirely different from reality otherwise you cannot relate to anything going on.

Of course if all you want to do is shoot things and makes badarse one-liners I suppose immersion isn't a real big deal.

However I play Mass Effect mostly for the story and immersion, and I believe this is true for most others as well. I do not play to see how many mooks I can headshot so I can get the Brain Splatter Achievement. If I just want to shoot or beat things up I will go play other games that were made for that very pupose. I don't for instance have problem with Mortal Kombat with the gals running around in high-heels and what's equivalent to lingerie as those games have always been campy and aren't meant to be serious.

However saying that Mass Effect is meant just to be another campy Sci-Fi seems wrong. Yes it made be based off Sci-Fi of the 70s and 80s, but most of those movies weren't made with the intention of being cheesy to begin with. It's only in retrospect that we now see these movies as "bad". If  it were the case that Mass Effect is another campy Sci-Fi then why we are constantly facing all these moral decisions over genocide, intelligence, etc. To me having your characters look like they just back from a model convention really trivalizes the story Bioware is trying to tell. Miranda is suppose to be this highly intelligent cold and reserved doctor yet her outfit makes basically makes her  out to look like she spends more time in clubs then actually doing any kind of medical research.

I don't have a problem with female characters being sexy or wearing high heels or whatever. But when it contradicts the character you are otherwise trying to portray "seriously" it end up pretty laughable. And I don't think that's what you want. Or I could be wrong. Perhaps Bioware is less concerned about actually creating engaging stories and is more focused on simply making sexy fantasy adventures these days to sell to the depraved and lonely masses.

Hmm looks like I ranted anyways... woops.
:D

I'm honestly stuffed with the so called "realism" discussions. No, I don't give a damn about realism. I'm not playing a simulator of future infantry battle, I'm playing a goddamn casual shooter videogame here and I absolutely don't mind high heels in those.

QFT.
Funny how most whiners only demand realism when it comes to female looks, boobs, high heels etc etc. When they are totally fine with the other 239 things that dont make any sense whatsoever. Like how biotic coated bullets work for example.

But NOOOO! Miranda cant swing an axe around with that boob size! *Retarded explanation why she cant* OMG MY REALISM!!!

This is the best thing I've read in a long time. I nominate you for vice president of common sense. Keelah'Selai.

These are the kind of guys I used to have to partner with in my ballet years. Too bad for me they were all gay, I had a crush on one or two of the men I danced with.

My grandmother owned a dancing school, and my father and uncle used to do ballet. They were never gay, though, lol. A couple months ago a few friends of mine were at a pizza place and they were talking about tap dancing. they asked if he could do it and he did, right there. it was pretty funny (he's fifty).
