The format isn't the problem. How the choices were implemented are. Choices were labeled diplomatic, sarcastic, and aggressive, when they should have been labeled good, jerk, and evil.

You sure you played the game because I've played a range of Hawke's, encompassing all the personality types, and the different choices can't be characterised in that manner. Aggressive for instance can be aggressive, angry or direct but not necessarily evil.

Again, does anybody have a clue why this wheel was copied from Mass Effect in the first place? It really doesn't seem such a good idea - I can't see any advantages to it (only disadvatages).

The wheel or the whole system including paraphrasing? Because once you decide to paraphrase the wheel is just the mechanism for showing the choices. The paraphrasing is used because reading the whole line then hearing it spoken is redundant.

And its not just BW using it its in TW2, Deus Ex Hr, Alpha Protocol, and I think Dungeon Siege 3.

I would be in favour of a compromise whereby there's an option to show a subtitle of the whole line as the paraphrase is highlighted.

That could actually work I guess. + I'd always be in favor of more shades in tone, character and whatnot. (though it's really not up to us to decide - but thinking my expectations through is the whole point of this - I think...).

A wheel limits the amount of text that can be placed around it, since it needs to be both versatile and ascetically pleasing to the eyes. The approach of using only moral intent (Mass Effect 2) or inflection (Dragon Age 2) for the responses is what I dislike. Granted being Space Jesus was better than being a bipolar warrior.
