I'm not the type to pick up older games that have long since passed. I get new games as they come, and I'm not worried about starting with Skyrim since as I'm aware of it, each Elder Scrolls game is standalone.

Makes me happy to know that. Still, I've got to figure out all the little bits and pieces.

Oh man, how I love doing research on fun games.

DA2, you don't count.

Fair point. I actually had the same issue with the original Baldur's Gate 1, which I had alot of trouble getting into. Here's hoping Skyrim turns out as great as it looks.

Another point-

I spent quite a few hours on DAO. Many, per playthrough. Not to TES levels, but a laaaarge amount.

DA2 felt a lot quicker. And more shallow.

I'm hoping for more DAO length games. Knowing that TES games are multitudes longer than even DAO makes me happy in the face.

600 hours on one playthrough. If you're looking for a great time sync, you've found it.

Just to remind everyone, DA2 had a different lead designer from DA:O.

That doesn't mean much of anything.

Mike Laidlaw is not some supreme overlord ruling from on high and commanding his vassals/serfs to carry out his will, lest he break out the sword, whip, tar, feathers, vuvuzelas, and all other manner of torture devices both painful and silly.

Really? I think he would be disappointed, he could use a new title if he was overlord. "Mike Laidlaw, Layer of Laws"

He goes by that title currently to pick up the chicks. They dig that sort of thing Image IPB.

Not to mention it's a badass title, despite him not actually being an overlord person.

Its got to be the assertive connotation in the title that gets them. It has to be more succesful than this approach.Image IPB

Yeah, now that I think about it, a Bioware story in a Bethesda world would be EPIC.

Unfortunately, I don't think you can put as much focus and time into each of their strengths without having to cut back on the other's.

Maybe one day, on the next gen consoles.

Don't think so. I know they have KotOR/Jade Empire available, but besides being backwards compatible there is no way to buy Morrowind on Live. Image IPB

That's a damn shame. I was all hyped about bringing my Dunmer Spellsword back to life.

...But there was a clear division amongst professional reviewers just as there was amongst the fans, and many professional reviews did point out that DA2 didn't have a lot in common with Origins.

The fans were split exactly the same way, we're just less diplomatic and more prone to exaggeration (on both sides of the divide).

Exactly?  The available evidence suggests otherwise...

Oh for the...*sighs*

I was referring to the way in which the fan base was divided, not how many people fell into each particular division. I personally feel that its purposeless to get into trying to estimate numbers of DA2 lovers / haters / somewhere-in-the-middlers.

As a general rule, detractors are far more vocal and likely to speak up that people who are happy. This is particularly true at the point when they're angriest (ie, post launch). As time passes, detractors tend to disengage with the community and go on to do other things, leaving behind the engaged fans. This tends to distort things if you're trying to get an objective view of what the entire playerbase is actually thinking as it depends who is around at the time you ask the question (ie, it depends a lot on WHEN you ask the question).

Ultimately, all I think we can safely say is that there's a fair chunk of DA2 detrators and DA2 fans and people who fell somewhere in between, but there aren't as many DA2 players overall (for whatever reason) as there were DA:O players, based on the available evidence.

Start a petition. The problem has always been focus (Bioware games) vs. freedom (Bethesda games). One usually comes at the expense of the other, but if we could marry the two? I would never leave my room.

On the bright side, Steam has the GOTY edition for a cheap bundle if you're looking to get nostalgic.

Could be one of the best RPG's ever. I always wished DAO was freeroam. I imagine when playing Skyrim I'll wish it had a rich and focused story like my Bioware RPG's.

GAAAAH, NOW I WANT BIOWARE AND BETHESDA TO WORK TOGETHER, RAWR.

LP, for the love of all that's holy, make an exception this time.

Arena (TES1) and Daggerfall (TES2) are skippable - they were boundary-pushers in their day (and now available for free from Bethesda), but now feel very aged and aren't good starting points to the series.

Oblivion is pretty, has nice free-form going on and is pretty darn easy to get into and enjoy. Skyrim looks like its going to be an absolute stunner, so fingers definitely crossed for it.

But if you take one thing from this thread, its that Morrowind is a bloody fantastic RPG, and we're not collectively trying to mess you about.. Plus, if you grab a few mods from PlanetElderScrolls (assuming you'll be grabbing the PC version) then you can get something as gorgeous as Oblivion, but with ten times the storyline and fun factor.

So stop posting here, get Morrowind and play it between now and November 11th. You will not regret this.

The world economy would collapse (again) from all the fan-boy/girls not going to their minimum wage, corporate sharecrops. DO IT!

I'm on a Macbook Pro, so no PC version for me(No, I won't use Bootcamp).

And you just convinced me to never get Morrowind(Never push a Prince when he puts his boots down).

:o

But seriously, I'm not going back to get Morrowind.

True - a game with Bethesda's freeform immersion and Bioware's engrossing characters and story structuring would be an absolute epic.

Although a game with Bethesda's story structuring and Bioware's freeform immersion could be...

Best not to risk it.

It's too late anyway. There's not enough time to play Morrowind to its fullest extent without compromising your Skyrim playthrough. The best thing we can all do is hunker down and wait for our lives to be destroyed come 11/11/11 (marketing ploy).

One thing that sucks for me is that all these awesome games I want(Arkham City, BF3, MW3, AC:R, TES V, etc etc) are all coming out right around the same time. Specifically, AC:R comes out 4 days after Skyrim.

I KNOW I'll still be playing Skyrim when it comes out, and I cannot put down a game and start playing another before finishing it. I'm a story focused gamer, I get in the zone. I can't even talk to friends online if I'm playing a single player game.

So Skyrim will sap my Assassin's Creed Revelations time, and that'll have to wait.

Never had that problem with DA2.

Yep. I'll have to set aside at least a month for Skyrim. Lot's of sick days. Wifey will kill me. Or I could take it to work. Break-rooms are your friend.

Anyway, we should probably get back to DA2 and explaining why its mediocre(while I simultaneously make fun of it and constantly remind people that I'll be acquiring not one game but TWO in a bid to replace the series from which DA2 is from due to the possibility that a future game in said series might resemble it).

DA2 Wasn't bad. Wasn't great either. Football analogy: brilliant plays, a lot of incomplete passes. It's like DA2 is the wildcard team in the playoffs when it should have been NFC/AFC champs. Their DLC is them actually winning some games in the playoffs. But that's just my opinion man.

For me, they didn't make it to the playoffs, they were THAT bad.

(refuses to buy DLCs for the game, a show for a lack of support)
