I played Dragon Age Origins more than 4 times and it's certainly one of my favorite games of all times. Dragon Age II was a good game but not as good as the first one, why not?
* The biggest mistake was to remove the option to play as Dwarf/Elf. It's a lot more work to include those two races, certainly in cutscenes and more, but they give us so much more then just 2 new characters to play with. I wanted to be that character, to experience that story and to live in that world. Removing them destroyed most of what I loved in DAO.
* In Dragon Age Origins the story wasn't choosing a side between Templars and Mages like DAO 2, it was more than that. For example the struggle in Orzammar, the fight in the Mage Tower, the reign of Logan in Denerim, the destruction of Lothering, the battle at Ostagar and so much more. I didn't have that feeling with DAO 2.
* The fact that you could only experience romance options at the "home" of that person in DAO 2 was ridiculous. Why couldn't you kiss in the street like in DAO? Why did it have to be a home? Is that realism, can we only share love at home in real life?
* A certain someone probably thought that picking up junk 9 out of 10 times was fun. Why was this implemented in the game? If you could a least use that junk to create armor or weapons, I would understand (like in The Elder Scrolls or even Two Worlds 2).
* And something everyone probably noticed, is using the same level design over and over again. Yeah it's easy that way, but what do you accomplish with it? That people don't like the game anymore? That they can't immerse themself in the story? Use a team if necessary, like The Elder Scrolls Skyrim to create unique dungeons. It's better to work more and longer on a game then to rush it and deliver it to stores knowing it's not finished proparly.
