DA2 Wasn't bad. Wasn't great either. Football analogy: brilliant plays, a lot of incomplete passes. It's like DA2 is the wildcard team in the playoffs when it should have been NFC/AFC champs. Their DLC is them actually winning some games in the playoffs. But that's just my opinion man.

So like my 2000 Ravens... not perfect but capable of winning the big game. I like it.

I'm not the only one who's willing to wait another 6 years for a great game, right?

Or for those of you who liked DA2, a better game?

Working on a game 6 years is very risky for a company. If success is not there, it's a huge loss. No one is ready for that today.

Then I'm 21 years old, I don' t want to wait until 27 years to see the sequel of Dragon Age II. :D

I prefer every two or three years. It should be a quality game that can also give a certain continuity, rhythm rather flamboyant, that not slowed down. Assassin creed, Edel scrolls, etc. To continue a series, fans should not wait too much. In six years, nobody will remember the story of dao and Dragon Age II. And I'm not sure that we would keep our saves so far. Dao was the first episode, so it worked, but not anymore in my opinion despite that I know that many people are saying, " we are ready to wait a long time bioware ", but when I see the impatience about Da2 dlc, I see  that's not really the case actually. :P

Well I WAS exaggerating. lol

I just don't want the damn game rushed. I don't even want them to start making it yet. Wait a year or two, THEN start working on the game.

In any case, this time, I do not pre-order. XD

The loyalty of the heart is gone, replaced by the curiosity of the consumer. With all the games that will come out anyway, I think you and I will have almost forgotten this franchise  lol.

Or maybe they should haul ass and make a game with the quality of a 6 year development cycle in 3 years. Sounds like a good solution.

Or they should just give up and stop making games altogether. Bioware should make animated movies instead.

Oh no, I won't forget it. I just won't blindly preorder it because its Bioware. Then again, I've never blindly preordered anything. I just had hope for DA2, and the hope was crushed.

I'll be much more careful with this franchise.

Well, to be fair,  I have not seen enough good news to keep hold on to this franchise. Conflicting feelings become more and more indifference each day. I feel that DA3 will be closer to DA2 than ever, and the team did not really reassured me about its willingness to change course. to Keep the same graphics two years and three years later does not help me to think that we are moving towards the renovation.

I'm more curious than cautious. What is worse, because then it must to interest me. Being prudent means already interested and ready to believe it.

And It was the first time I pre-ordered. And I'm grossly mistaken lol. But I'm still ready to trust the company ( not this franchise ), since I'm going to do the same with mass effect. This time I read enough information to avoid being caught by surprise and I am satisfied for the moment.

Yeah, I want the art style to go back to the DAO style. If it doesn't and the characters, world, and everything else continue looking cheap like DA2, thats a huge blow to the series in my mind and might just be the giant straw that broke the camel's back for me.

You need to be introduced to Blizzard and their in-game cinematics.

Blizz could do it to. Give up on WoW and start making movies. Heck, Blizz and Bio can team up.

It was the first time I pre-ordered as well. D'oh. :P

On the other hand Bioware have made, what is it, 7 great games before DA2 (I might even grudgingly allow Jade Empire into the 'great' category, although I didn't like it anywhere near as much as the others) and DA:O was the pinnacle of that. So if I was going to pick a company, and a franchise, to have a lot of trust in it didn't seem like a bad idea at the time.

So yeah, for me Laidlaw and the team dropped a clanger with DA2, but here's hoping to a healthy round of lessons learned for DA3...

A pretty spot on thread (although I skimmed through some of it cause I'm tired.)

Mind you though not everyone shares the same opinion that Dragon Age is mediocre though (I think its mediocre/average myself though.)

Very true concerning their track record, though I'll still be keeping a very close eye on everything they release from here on out, including Mass Effect 3. The things that I absolutely loved about their games (which all seemed to congregate in DA:O) are kinda turning out to be unfashionable by their new standards. (I personally could've played ten more Dragon Age games without the player character ever having a voice.) DA2 might be the exception and not the rule going forward, and I really, really hope that's true, but if it's a sign of things to come, then I'll probably be hopping off the fanboy train pretty quick.

I still love BioWare, but I really have no interest in playing another "Hawke simulator" when there are other games that allow for greater player agency. The way Laidlaw's been talking about DA3 has my hopes up, but still... =/

If DA3 is a DA2 clone, then I'll join you in leaving the train at the next stop.

Fortunately, this seems unlikely given the comments about DA3 and the subtle shifts in direction and learning. I haven't liked everything I've heard from the DA team so far, but I accept that you can't please everyone. The million dollar question is if the desired 'fusion' between DA:O and DA2 makes for a better game than both, or whether (with my cynic's hat on) it makes it a game that's a bit more like DA:O than DA2 was, but...not enough to actually be great game.

But then, I'm a massive Origins fan. Not everyone is. ;)

Meh, I personally would place Jade Empire far and away above Baldur's Gate 1 and Neverwinter Nights. But that's just me. Image IPB

I played Dragon Age Origins more than 4 times and it's certainly one of my favorite games of all times. Dragon Age II was a good game but not as good as the first one, why not?

* The biggest mistake was to remove the option to play as Dwarf/Elf. It's a lot more work to include those two races, certainly in cutscenes and more, but they give us so much more then just 2 new characters to play with. I wanted to be that character, to experience that story and to live in that world. Removing them destroyed most of what I loved in DAO.

* In Dragon Age Origins the story wasn't choosing a side between Templars and Mages like DAO 2, it was more than that. For example the struggle in Orzammar, the fight in the Mage Tower, the reign of Logan in Denerim, the destruction of Lothering, the battle at Ostagar and so much more. I didn't have that feeling with DAO 2.

* The fact that you could only experience romance options at the "home" of that person in DAO 2 was ridiculous. Why couldn't you kiss in the street like in DAO? Why did it have to be a home? Is that realism, can we only share love at home in real life?

* A certain someone probably thought that picking up junk 9 out of 10 times was fun. Why was this implemented in the game? If you could a least use that junk to create armor or weapons, I would understand (like in The Elder Scrolls or even Two Worlds 2).

* And something everyone probably noticed, is using the same level design over and over again. Yeah it's easy that way, but what do you accomplish with it? That people don't like the game anymore? That they can't immerse themself in the story? Use a team if necessary, like The Elder Scrolls Skyrim to create unique dungeons. It's better to work more and longer on a game then to rush it and deliver it to stores knowing it's not finished proparly.

DA2 is by no means an animated movie. DA2 was not mediocre, COD is mediocre. There are alot more female gamers then people think, alot more. I grew up with the Ps1; where almost every single game had a male protagonist, lets not go back to that..

I hope bioware never goes the oblivion route. I played it through once, all my female gaming friends played through DAO and DA2, but could not be bothered finishing oblivion. There is such a thing as too long, too open-world.

DA2 was obvilously rushed, but the animation, characters(except anders),story, banter, and customization were all great.

DAO was better, I agree, but DA2 is  not the cra* people say it is. My only complaints are, the re-used maps,fed-ex quests, no dialouge history, and anders.

What does being female have to do with it?  I played the crap out of Oblivion.   "Mediocre" is definitely a word I'd put behind DA2.

Okay this is probably the last time I'll post in this thread. When *I* say mediocre I don't mean crap.

Another analogy: I go about once a month with wifey to the best gourmet restaurant in town. We always leave feeling that we got what we paid for. So this time I order Carnard a l'orange. I know it's going to be awesome because I eat at this place once a month. And then when my order arrives I'm confused. I get a fried duck sandwich with fries on the side and orange pop. The duck sandwich was good, but I still wanted my Carnard a l'orange.

There are a lot of things going on, though. Some people dislike DA2 because it isn't what they wanted it to be; in that case it wouldn't matter how well DA2 executed its features - it would still be the wrong kind of game, an action-adventure game of some form or another instead of an RPG. Whereas other people might like the direction, but focus on the fact that the implementation was mediocre-to-poor in most respects.

I stopped reading at your Hawke should be male & predefined. If I were forced to play Douchy McDouche Garret Hawke, that would have been enough to make me storm the bioware office with my pitch fork. You may be a dude & like to play dudes, but many of us ladies would like a character WE can relate to. This is the whole reason I didn't bother trying the Witcher.

As a man I don't like playing a male.
