Hey whats up everybody

So i finally finished DA: O last night, thought I'd share some thoughts/feelings

I had played through like two other half playthorughs, where I stopped during the last blight quest. Yesterday i finally played through to the end, and man, it was epic.

I must say that no other game has had such an emotional impact on me. It is one of the few games I have played where I actually felt sad at the end. During the coronation at the end and you see all of your companions hailing you as hero, I felt like I was saying goodbye to good friends. The romances in this game I thought were really well done, and greatly increase your attachment to the world. ( <3 Leliana)

Has anyone else felt like this sfter finishing the game? Also, is Awakening worth buying?( I feel like it wouldnt be as fun because all of the DA:O companions aren't there)

Grats on finishing DA:O, scotsman23!

Yep, it really takes a lot out of you emotionally once the credits roll. "Awakening" is ok (you will see a few people from Orgins there but in case you don't already know who they are I won't spoil it for you) but nowhere near as epic as Origins. I picked it up (as well as a few DLC's) because I wanted to take my main alt on some more adventures.

Again, congratulations on finishing your first playthrough!

I too just finished today for the first time :) And Yes.. It felt like I was moving and saying goodbye to all my friends.. I also got quite sad when I found out Alistar not only had to end our relationship but also to Die at the end..
It was a great game.. Now I need to find out how to get the romance to end better.. I am Hoping that is possible..

Now.. Can anyone tell me what order to do the other campaign that came with the dragon age origins ultimate edition? Can't wait to continue the quest..
Thanks Angellfire

If you're looking to continue the adventures of your Warden, you'll want to do them in this order:

1. Awakening (takes place 6 months after the end of Origins)
2. Golems of Amgarrak (takes place an unspecified time after the end of Origins/Awakening. You could technically do this immediately after Origins, but GoA is TOUGH and you'll have a much easier time bringing in an Awakening character with super-powered gear.)
3. Witch Hunt (takes place 2 years after the end of Awakening)

Leliana's Song takes place several years prior to Origins, and The Darkspawn Chronicles is an alternate history look at how Origins might have played out, so play those in whichever order you'd like. :)

Yes.  That's how I rank my games.  if they suck me in emotionally then spit me out in the end and leave me feeling like an "era" just came to a close, then they get my nod as  one of the best games ever made.  It takes world-class writing to do this.  Its  a very rare occurance.

Only 3 games I've ever played have given me this feeling that you're describing:
1)Dragon Age Origins
2)Baldurs Gate 2/Throne of Bhaal
3)Planescape: Torment.

It's not as fun, that's true.  But then, it's really not supposed to be  (it's just an expansion pack).  Still,  It's worth it.  It does many things really well, and it still *feels* like Dragon Age.

Yes, I felt it did the fantasy chosen-one-possibly-saves-the-world-but-possibly-doesn't quest thing quite well, there was a sense of having been on a journey at the end.

If anything, it felt to me like the story had just begun, which is always a really good sign in any story that's already kept you engrossed for the whole "first book".

I thought it was a thoroughly great romp.

As for Awakenings, it is pretty flat by comparison in terms of story and content, but that's kind of what we expected, since really it's an expansion that gives you more time with the gameplay mechanics.

You get to kill more stuff, get interesting items and re-spec, generally buffing your character brilliantly (you can have another one if your character died) and generally do hours more of DA:O combat.

Since DA:O combat gameplay was generally well-received I imagine you liked it - well Awakenings lets you do that through some more quests for a decent 20 hours or more.

Congrats on finishing and yes it blew me away as well.
Do Awakenings first then the others wont be so tough.

Personaly I liked the DLC adventures it kind of rounded off the story for me. You can also get some great mods from the Dragon Age Nexus. so you can download fan made content.

Dragon age Origins and Witcher 2 have been the only games that have had this effect on me. Like you said, this effect accompanies a truly great game.

So I decided to pick up the Ultimate edition to get all the dlcs and play awakening. I just cant get enough dragon age:)

As for DA2, I've heard that it butchers everything that was great about origins, so I'll stay away from that for now.

Dragon age origins is an very satisfying experience when you are playing it, though after finishing it I personally feels it a bit lacking on story

For awakenings,if you have ahuman noble,I would suggest importing them. And congrats at finishing origins for the first time. I admit the last battle can be tedious,if your not at a sufficent level.

For me, it depends on what origin and the path i choose in the game. For example if i play the light path female human noble who willingly becoming Grey Warden and carrying her father name the feeling is mixed between revenge, responsibility, romance (well...allowing my boyfriend sleep with other woman) and want the feeling "i think i have done everything right for everyone"

Sure the feeling is different if play as Dalish Elf who resent human and forced to become Grey Warden, feeling "why the hell i help them anyway?". Mage hate the Chantry and the Templars will have the feeling want a freedom for all mages...ect

And yes...DA:O give an emotional effect on me, believe it or not i have dream involving DA:O lols

In my dream (actually mixed up between DA:O and Resident Evil) me, Alistair and Morrigan the last who survive the Blight, and we are immortal somehow because of Morrigan magic, but got separated because we not going well with each other. So in modern time some how we met at underground train station, there is "Umbrella corporation conspiracy" that want to make everyone becoming darkspawn, somekind of darkspawn virus that infect and taint everyone, So we fight them all in modern way using guns, bombs, electronic devices and create resistance group, many people join us...it is funny you know. lols When i woke up i feel what the hell...

Congrats OP.

and yes, i felt the same way.

there are many games that have made me felt this way(PST, BG2, Morrowind,etc..), and DAO is one of them.

and when that happens, i know i'm in front of one of my favorite RPGs ever(since the only non-RPG game that has made me feel this was is Half Life 2)

I suggest BioWare's "Knights of the Old Republic". When BioWare sits down to think things through, they do on ocassion produce a solid gaming experience. "Dragon Age: Origins" and "Knights of the Old Republic" left me feeling fulfilled and alive. Logically, "Knights of the Old Republic" was the testing ground for "Dragon Age: Origins".

When it comes to romances and companions, Bastilla Shan and Leliana are the best characters ever.

Oh yeah, first time I finishe dthe game I double fist pumped the air screaming at 5 am "Hell yeah!"....and then cried at the Warden's funeral.

Maybe the sleep deprivation caused that....but it was an epic feeling finishing.

Congrats, OP. :)

Be sure to do the US ending at least once. That's intense, especially if you're romancing anyone.

Awakening's worth it, I think. You'll get a letter from any LI except Warden Alistair, and all LIs will be referenced in the epilogue. Whoever you made king or queen will show up briefly. And the companions are pretty good.

I love KotOR, and i think it is better than DA:O in certain way. Firstly because there is no tank, DPS and Nuker role. In DA:O we must set atleast one or two role making it stuck to the old tactic. And KotOR story line is descent and clean. The side quests in KotOR didn't destroy the story flow not like in DA:O we must jump here and there to fulfil side quests somewhat making a mess in the story flow. KotOR have balance economy, have a lot of opportunity to gain money to buy what we want not like in DA:O. Skills and talents are simple in KotOR, later upgraded talents replace the old one, so we don't mess up our head with load of talents. Soldier class in KotOR can open simple lock if spent atleast 2 point in skill, making him/her doesnt look like so stupid. Characters are descent in KotOR than in DA:O, in KotOR . Carth Onasi character is strong not like Alistair, Canderous is also have a solid character who have reason to follow us and we have rason to pick him up not like Sten who don't give any reason to release him from the cage and we don't have any reason to add him into the party. And so with other characters. But Morrigan is more interesting than Bastila Shan.

But for emotional effect, DA:O is far better than KotOR. DA;O give an emotional effect depends on origin and the path we choose. It is always grey in color and not black and white, light and dark in KotOR. Somthing we think is right is not entirely true and something we think not right also not entirely true in DA:O. That is the quality i like in DA:O story line.
