Obsession: a persistent disturbing preoccupation with an often unreasonable idea or feeling.

I'm not so sure. Love doesn't sound disturbing or unreasonable, and one probably shouldn't forget about it.

I've never known love to be anything but unreasonable. But it is far from disturbing, no words yet express even come close to describing just how... perfect, or correct love is, whether it is for a friend, kin, or lover. People, or here characters, that have an obsession for someone doesn't really feel love, just a drive. Hell, often people feel obsession towards their most bitter of foes.

Non of the love interests in the Mass Effect games I find are obsessed with Shepard, but some of them do seem to have an idolized view of her or him.

If what you were talking about was actually portrayed in game romances, maybe I'd like them.

In my experience, people who don't wait for the perfect person or their soulmates to have sex can be just as special as a person who hasn't had any past relationships.  I'd rather be with someone who has some life experience, even if they were mistakes or bad luck, or, heavens forbid, they just had a string of positive, healthy relationships before they met me.

True, but sometimes that experience goes into the bin, when you meet a completely different person. Also ( puts on a white coat ) first bondings activate a subcontious attachment trigger that makes the relationship more strong, unless it again is thrown out the bin the next morning.

I don't think past sexual experience (or lack of) should define an LI.

Funny. Love always seemed to me like a partnership of two people in an attempt to make eachothers lives better and more enjoyable. Never thought there was some kind of magic behind it. :)

Has it ever though? While it may come up somethings with the love interests in the BioWare games, it is always just a bi-product of a character trait, like Liara's introvertness or Isabela's aggressive sexuality.

I am a romantic, magic moves through me and all I see. While I do not expect nor want everyone to share my views they do warn me so. <3

It does for me, atleast in a video game, where everything should be perfect.

This might sound very strange... The thing is that if a person is a good partner then the person doesn't get over his previous LI, because that meant something to them, and I respect them for that and don't dare to start a romance. If a person can get over LI, it is a turn off because that person can get over me. If a person had a bad relationship, then that person started the relationship, before he/she knew what he/she was going for, and that is a little silly.

Denying accountability, or an uncompromising attitude are turn-offs for me.

One jarring aspect of ME2 Liara (for me) was that she didn't appear to give a damn about getting Sekat killed for data.

Oh, I thought you meant a BioWare character. Ah, nevermind.

My thought on this is that love is beautiful, often dumb, and without limit. I do think it is possible for someone to have felt great love for someone, love that never truly goes away, and still fall in love with another. It is not getting over so much as moving on. Bad relationships happen because to find love is to take chances, and sometimes they don't work out but the idea that it can is too alluring to let go.

I'd personally rather bond with someone over our shared interests and goals, and the knowledge that we both have had experience with relationships enough to be secure and mature in our current one, than some perceived specialness of a first sexual encounter.

You can keep your love. I simply want a woman that I respect to raise a family with (looking at you, Ash).

Fair enough. I am just one of those people that usually don't need to be in a situation to imagine how it is like, and when I find myself in one, it usually isn't so different. :)

Fair enough too. I wonder though, does that mean that you wouldn't willingly bond with a sterile woman, even if you liked her?

Now on a more serious note; What's up with the constant unending use of the smiley?

But they are there to be used, aren't they? :wizard:

How else would you know the tone of my phrases?

Reading the text is usually sufficient.

Over using the various smileys makes them get old fast.

Bigotry. One of the reasons that while I do not by any means dislike Ashley I couldn't see my Shep in a relationship with her. Also being boring. Like Jacob.

Except that Ashley isn't a bigot. You simply failed to comprehend what she was saying most of the time, apparently.

Kinda. Sure, Ash isn't very nice to those she doesn't know. That's the position you start with - you're basically a stranger to her. The same applies on Garrus, Tali, Liara - they're strangers to Ash, like all Aliens.
The more time you spend with Ash, the more you'll find out she's neither xenophobic (but reserved) nor a tomboy. That's her image, but not her core. And that makes her a believeable character. After all, she has to be better than the best 'cause of her blacklisted name.

I can say something similar about Miranda. You start with her on a quite cool stage but things get better over time. At the end, it doesn't matter if you are in a romance with her or not, when she made it through the final fight she'll resign her Cerberus career to go with Shepard. And she seems to be far more enjoyable now than before.

Romance turn offs? Dunno. Actually, I'd like to see some parts of the past of every LI - that also includes one or two stories about past lovers. Why not? After all, it's past. And I'm sure none of those past lovers were better than Shepard (ego-boost) :P

The romance that never turned me on was the one of Jack - and only because her past full of sex, violence & crime. To make things worse it seems she got raped a lot, which adds another unhealthy dose to the possible relationship. Of all potential relationship Jack+Shepard is the one I find least appealing.
