Lack of personality. Lack of complexity. Lack of backbone. Needlessly clingy.

I also can't stand "Knight in shining armour" types. I have no problem with a love interest jumping in now and then when someone refuses to answer a question, with an angry glare and a hand on their gun. But i play a character that can wipe out an army of mobs single handed in a matter of moments, i don't need someone jumping in to defend my honour every time a nasty wittle man throws an insult.

Also characters that have no opinions of their own. Blindly following the Player character's way of thinking no matter what/who you do. Like it's too difficult to form their own opinion or even their own thought pattern without the PC's say so.

This isn't even just love interests, characters in general. I could keep listing things that will undoubtedly continue to pop up in future games and continue to annoy me. But i'll stop with these ones.

One more: Severe emotional instability with no real reason behind it. Now this isn't to say i don't like a good old fashion angsty character. I do really dig the whole "tortured soul" thing. However if there isn't enough depth to the character history, and not enough exploration into their past, then it falls a bit flat. Instead of having a troubled character you have a crazy git who has no real reason to be so angry. That really does put me riiiiight off a character.

The quad would likely break any human female.

Not necessarily. Gorillas are HUGE, but they aren't impressive in regards to the size of their sexual organs. Plus, Krogans lay eggs and have huge clutches, and using birds and reptiles as examples, the size of a huge egg laying animal does not equal being well hung. The worrisome part about the Krogans would probably be their hands when they try to get a good grip on something squishy.

I'd have to say the two LIs I'm "turned off" to are Liara and Tali. Don't like their dispositions. With Liara, I feel like I'm working with a 6-year-old girl. Tali was pretty awesome in ME1 but in ME2 she became much to "dramatic" for me to love.

Also, some romances don't have turn-offs but lack turn-ons. That's where I don't do Miranda, and probably wouldn't Kasumi either. Both are hot, but I can't really connect with those two on an intimate level, and would rather leave the relationship at "just friends."

Ironically, over sexualisation is a turn off.

Because then it seems that Shepard may be going for that LI for the wrong intentions, or vice versa. I love a well developed personality, particularly one that shows individuality.

Like Xil said, interspecies relationships are more fascinating, because I play a game to get a way from realism. And a world filled with aliens is all the more absorbing for me.

I like that you used "I" here, because it makes me think a bit. Do players choose a love interest based on who they, the person, like or do they try to craft Shepard as a character with a different set up values and choose a love interest based on what she or he likes?

I've done both, actually. My "canon" Shep is an author-insert, but my other serious career is a Rene-femshep and I matched her with Garrus because I felt they made a good couple. (I'm a male, hetro).

Interesting observation. I've always romanced the guys who I, personally, find pleasing (personality wise). Although with "create a character" games, I always try to give my character the same personality that I have, so I can connect to the character more. I never really thought about people choosing romances based on how they played their character, but I guess it makes sense both ways.

Thats an interesting  question  considering that there is no canon  shepard  to have basis  as to what  Shepard s/he finds attractive. For me its a mix of the both some of me at least  - I try to take something from myself and put into each of the my  Shepards.

I almost always role play characters based entirely on myself and base my morality choices and love interests accordingly.

Just want to know what are the major turn offs for you when you consider a potential LI?

For me it would be - character being in a relationship, and/or mentioning their past relationships.

What are yours?

I hope you didn't romance Tali then.

LOL

No I romanced Liara, everything fine with her in that sense.

both.  first character usually starts out is - what would I do if I were in that situation.  the rest are basicaly designed with certain outcomes/relationships in mind.  for example.  in real life, someone like Thane would be the kind of person I would stay away from.  the most I could see myself developing is a grudging respect.  but I have a shepard that I specificaly designed to click with him, partialy becasue there were parts of his romance that were quite lovely and partialy because she ended up making different choices for different reasons and it set up for a different import for ME3.  I think the difference betweenme and some of the others is that they create a character and then figure out an LI, while I decide on LI and THEN create a character.

oh yeah - turn offs. placing blame on others rather then accepting personal responsibility.

I try to pick a LI that fits the character I'm playing, so I do have a character who digs Liara even though she really wouldn't be MY thing. However, my "canon" Shepard is a lot like me (except for his being an unstoppable killing machine for justice) so his LI was the one I find most appealing, which would be Ashley. Even though I am an Ashley fan, however, I do not for a second believe that she is "perfect" or even "perfectly written." Even her romance has some badly written segments that makes me cringe.

For some reason I saw thane as too feminine for me, later he grew on me but i'm still not that attracted to him. That and his lack of responsibility in terms of his son. Call me crazy but i'm into masculine dependable men.

When I create a character, I try to think about the type of LI they would be attracted to. I determine the character's sexuality, their personality, and usually a clear choice emerges from the available options. What I would consider a turnoff for myself, one of my characters might find attractive, so I go with it. My very Paragon Shepards both went for Liara, because she seemed the most in line with their personalities. The female Paragon Adept I had decided was a lesbian, and Liara was the only s/s option, but even still I had decided that she was a "chaotic good" type, and it turns out she and Liara are a perfect match. My male Paragon Vanguard is more of a lawful good type, and he and Liara actually had a bit of discord in ME2. Both my Paragons will probably stay true to Liara in ME3. My female Engineer and my male Sentinel are both pretty neutral as far as morality goes, and both prefer men, so she went for Kaidan and he remains without an LI. He'll get his first chance at romance in ME3, and she will either stay with Kaidan or decide to go it alone. My two Renegades, a female Soldier and a male Infiltrator, are not monogamous, and so each "cheated" in ME2. She went for Kaidan, then Jacob (who later died in the SM), and he went for Ashley, then Jack. Both of them will probably cheat again in ME3.

I like dependable women too. :)

Zevran would be the closest to it in the DA franchise. I would have died laughing if Alistair told my Warden "you make love better than Duncan!"

I suppose Jacob is boring because he doesn't need Shepard to hold his hand and help him find his self esteem, nor does he spend the cut scenes gushing over her. He even has the audacity to play hard to get even though Hale, for some reason, acted out her "talk for a bit" line like she was in heat.

Not really. He's just boring because he has A LOT LESS to talk about with Shepard, even as a friend. In ME 2 I could talk to every squad member after every mission and learn a little something about their character, attitudes, backgrounds, etc. Jacob talked to me maybe twice the entire mission and then just repeteadly complained that I was "already" trying to talk to him again. He's boring because he's so paper thin and two-dimensional that he could slip under your door like your Monday mail.
