Calling off Isabela romance

I'm trying to attempt the Isabela, Fenris, Anders/Merrill sequence of sleeping with one after the other, but it's failed pathetically because apparently Fenris doesn't sleep with Hawke after she's been with Isabela (regardless of choosing the "it was just for fun" option after sex). So is there a broken-heart option with Isabela that will call things off with her once and for all, and possibly give me the opportunity to continue with my plan?

Handing her over to the Arishok might work, but is a bit extreme.
Otherwise the only reliable way to dump people seems to be to sleep with someone else

I believe there is! Right after you pick the "what about love" option, there should be a dialogue option with a broken heart symbol. If I recall correctly.
Ah, I'll try that then, seeing as I have a save just before the romance scene. There don't seem to be any in her Act2 QB, so I'm hoping this works.

Alright, I just checked. It reads "Maybe you're right." I can't guarantee that Fenris will still sleep with you, though - he's a bit picky like that. If you're going to end up with Anders/Merrill, can't you sleep with him first, then Isabela?

I suppose I could. I can't imagine Isabela would be fussy about Hawke sleeping with anyone before her! Thanks for the suggestion (can't believe I didn't think of something so simple myself

You're welcome! She really isn't. Whenever I do that routine where I sleep with them both and end up with Merrill/Anders I've never had any problems with her. If I try it the other way around, with Isabela first, I always goof up.

I will say that if you sleep with Isabela and then move on to Merrill, she says some stuff that is kind of sad. It's strange how not staying with certain characters makes you realize how much they actually care about Hawke.

Fenris does sleep with you after you sleep with Isabela. I have done this.

Can you tell how did you do that exactly, please? I mean, in what order did you do all their personal quests? (Talk to Isa, Sleep with Isa, Talk to Fenris, A Bitter Pill, Fenris QB, Sleep with Fenris)
Because I tried different combinations and chose the correct option ( "Maybe you're right") to break the romance, and it still didn't work (PC 1.03, haven't tried on PC 1.04 though).

Because I tried different combinations and chose the correct option ( "Maybe you're right") to break the romance, and it still didn't work (PC 1.03, haven't tried on PC 1.04 though).
How I did it (from what I can remember):
1) In Act 1, I flirted with everyone whenever I could. I mean, my Hawke was just all over all of her friends at the same time. Totally inappropriately hilarious. I was also careful in taking certain friends on certain quests so as not to start a rivalry with anyone - I doubt this made much of a difference, but I didn't want to go the rivalmance route with Fenris so I was very careful not to bring him along with me when I did pro-magey things and I was also careful not to make Isabella annoyed by refusing to help Martin, etc. This got Friendship levels up, and this is especially useful with Isabella and getting her to stick around for Act 3.
2) In Act 2, I made sure to continue flirting with everyone whenever possible when I talked to them at the beginning of the Act to catch up and when I gave them their gifts, if possible. Make sure you don't take Fenris to Sundermount until you are ready to begin the romance, and same goes for Anders' personal quest if you want to throw him in the mix as well.
3) Sleep with Isabela first - I managed to sleep with Isabela fast in Act 2 - (likely because I had her friendship so high from Act 1 and I gave her the ship in a bottle gift so her Questioning Beliefs quest came up quickly) and did that first. After sleeping with Isabela, when she starts the conversation about getting serious, I think I responded with "you should stay" (diplomatic) and then "why not" (to ask her about her husband) and then I believe I said something like "that's a shame" (diplomatic). I honestly don't remember exactly what I said to her (it was likely diplomatic since I was playing a diplomatic Hawke - it was either diplomatic or a flirt option), but when it was over she had my scarf around her arm.
4) After she left, I went to Anders and flirted with him during his personal quest. Then I slept with him (when he showed up in my room and asked about Isabela, I lied and told him there was nothing between me and Isabela and he believed me), and then I chose the broken-heart option right away after we slept together. He flipped out and said something along the lines of " You used me and I won't forget this" (but I didn't lose any friendship points and he didn't treat me any differently later).
5) I made sure to give Fenris the book (gift #1). Then I took Fenris to Sundermount for Bitter Pill and built up more friendship points by saying "Fenris is not a slave" and giving money to the slave that you run into in the hideout. After that, I went back to my house and there he was - I asked him to stay and I think he said no and left. Later, after I flirted with him during his QB quest, he showed up at my mansion and we slept together. After that, I stayed with him by not moving on to anyone else and completed his romance in Act 3. I believe if I had wanted to, I could have moved on to Merrill after Fenris and ended up with her if I had choosen to do so, because she actually showed up at my mansion as a result of me flirting with her - but I shut her down.
I ended up with both Isabella and Fenris wearing my scarf, and then some interesting dialogue where Fenris, Anders, and Isabella talked about me which made me laugh. I'm not 100% sure, but I think the only way you can pull this off is making sure you have over 50% friendship or rivalry with all of them - and you have to be strategic about that. Like I said, I did this by being picky about who I took on which quests (easy to do when you've played before and know what is going to happen ahead of time). Talk to them as much as possible - keep everyone happy to build up friendship levels, and this should work. I didn't find it difficult to do.
Basically, I believe you can romance all of the characters as long as you do it in the right order and you have high enough friendship/rivalry - once Anders or Merrill moves in, you can't romance anyone else.
And yes, I am sure that Hawke walked away with one or more embarrassing diseases.

Ah, I see, but that's not what I thought) There is a persistent rumor that you can't sleep with Fenris immediately after Isabela and I was unable to do it although I did excessive testing. The romance with Isabela seems to not end properly in this case. When you do this in the order Isabela->Anders->Fenris, everything works fine, that's a known fact.

Oh, I see what you are saying. You're saying that if you go straight from Bela to Fen there is no dice? I will have to test this - I've never tried.

So basically, it either breaks or it doesn't, and there's no real way to know which it's gonna be until you do it.

For some people it works, for others, it doesn't. Basically, Fenris' romance is bugged - you're supposed to be able to go from Isabela to Fenris, but for a lot of people, just flirting with Isabela in Act II before sleeping with Fenris will break Fenris' relationship forever. My first time through, I flirted with 'Bela no problem, and turned her down when she came for her booty call because I wanted Fenris, and his romance went off without a hitch. My next playthrough, flirting with her broke my Fenris romance completely.
So basically, it either breaks or it doesn't, and there's no real way to know which it's gonna be until you do it.
I flirted with her in both acts and turned her down when she came, and was still able to proceed with Fenris romance. May be there are some bugs related to flirting but I've never experienced them. But no matter what I tried I was unable to make my Hawke sleep with her and then sleep with Fenris immediately after that. The order: Isabela->Anders->Fenris works though. Fenris->Anders also works.

From what I know, the most reliable way to sleep with someone else and then Fenris is to not talk to him at ALL during Act II until you've slept with everyone else you want to, THEN do his initial quest in Act II, his QB, and his personal quest. (In that order, since occasionally not doing his QB first can break the romance. Not always, or even a majority of the time, but it can happen and is best avoided if you want to be sure about it.)
