EA fails to understand this, though.

Or that a singleplayer game can be good enough on its own.

The idiot who said that multiplayer is the future shouldn't be allowed to work with video games at all.

Image IPB Bit of an extreme reaction, don't you think?

Besides, they know that a single player game works successfully on a stand-alone basis, but this isn't just about those who want to play single player. There are other people in the world and those other people want to play MP. It's so selfish to complain about an optional extra that you don't even have to take part in.

I fear I'm just banging my head against a brick wall, though.

An optional extra with AN ARTIFICIAL TIME LIMIT. I've played enough UbiSoft games to tell me that multiplayer shouldn't be the "Be all, end all" solution. Last time I checked for games that shoehorned in multiplayer for the later entries of established franchises, how many people are still playing Resident Evil 5, Lost Planet 2, F.E.A.R. 3, Dead Space 2, or BioShock 2 online RIGHT NOW?

My biggest problem with co-op would be one that I stated earlier, with "who would be who".

I doubt they will run the main campaign as co-op. I should imagine it'll be Deathmatch and Fire-fight etc.

Co-op is even worse than random multiplayer. This is no Gears of War.

It's not. And multiplayer will not make it more like it. Just because a game has some features that are similar to another game doesn't mean it's a bad thing.

Wait.  classic Bioware RPGs with multiplayer?  Before they sold out to EA and started catering to the low-brow masses?

This... this changes everything.  I need to lie down.

What the hell? Nobody has said it's the "Be all, end all" solution. Where did you get that from? What do you think will happen, exactly? They are going to suddenly stop making all single player games? Be realistic for one second.

Whenever people start frothing at the mouth due to multiplayer rejection rage, I always feel the obligation to remind people that Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate 2 had multiplayer, and it didn't diminish the experience.

I think the BSN will keep Mass Effect MP alive.

It does, they should just stick to what they're good at and improve those. Not add these silly extra features, that other companies do far better.

My guess: Fifty.

Could be either because of the crappy advertising or because the multiplayer is crappy.

Sometimes it's both.

That's a good point, but as I said, as long as it's required to get the story line or additional story line parts I'll be happy... because if it isn't I can see myself playing ME 1-3 every year =p.

Although... if it does have additional storyline parts, i can't see anyone playing it 5 years from now, or 6 months after release like any other multiplayer game other than the obvious ones.

I wouldn't mind co-op, but I am not about to run into another Halo MP episode. Kids should reach the age of 21 before they should be allowed to play games, if they can't behave.

How the hell will MP even work ?
Let me guess: TIM actually managed to clone Shepard during the Lazarus Project.

Again... wow. Somebody shoot me.

I'd just like to point out that multiplayer was a part of that from the very first game.

That said, it does go to show BioWare can implement it well. Although, it was a different kind of RPG but I'm not feeling particularly bad about the news of multiplayer in ME3. I'm just a bit irked that they went back on a statement they made earlier and that multiplayer seems to get into everything these days.

Quite often developers try new things. And we really can't say that other companies do it better if Bioware hasn't even tried.
