I'm gonna have to say it again now that it's been all but confirmed...

Keep the multiplayer away from the ****ING achievements!

Not interested in multiplayer in any way shape or form.

No, not necessarily.  The resources allocated to MP could just have not been allocated at all.  Unless you know the details of how the game was budgeted, all you've got is guesswork.

No need to bash other games. I loved RE5 and (gasp) FEAR 3 co-op, and will play them quite often when a friend is ready & willing. Also, those are examples that don't really apply since co-op was the crux of gameplay in RE5 and FEAR 3, whereas it will be an optional mode in ME3.

And "shoe-horned in" multiplayer in a decidedly singleplayer game does not equate a death sentence to either the core game or the MP experience...as someone mentioned before, Red Dead Redemption's MP was actually pretty solid and the main story certainly did not suffer from it's inclusion.

Uh, Rockstar is the EXCEPTION TO THE RULE (i.e. Sandbox games in general have more flexibility). Other games, not so much.

Calm down, Pacino.

I played co-op with Mccauley....HALF AN HOUR AGO!

As long as there is an option for a Single Player, I'm happy. Don't really care about MP cause won't use it any way.

I'm not going to read 30+ pages about this but has anyone actually considered that the MP component will developed by a separate Bioware studio? Meaning that there is no sacrifice to the singleplayer like I hear so many users worry about.

Look at Ubisoft, for example. Unless I'm mistaken, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood was primarily developed by Ubisoft Montreal but the multiplayer was developed by Ubisoft Shanghai.

I totally welcome a MP feature. Although, I do believe that if it's not some form of co-op it just will not last and will not be played.

I think its made by a seperate studio as well. But people will be blinded by their misguided rage.

What difference does that make???

Resources don't get magiced into existence just because they outsourse MP development!

Any resource used to create MP could have been used to polish/expand the single player...

You don't know what budget the Bioware team have. You don't know what they have planned. You don't even know how this MP thing is going to work yet; it could be completely seperate add-on missions that you can install after you've played the original SP campaign.

To suggest that it means the SP will be rubbish is nonsense.

Eh, I'm not big on MP, especially in games where it makes no sense. So I'm going to ignore this gratuitous feature once I have bought my copy of ME3. Months later after release. Preowned.

Uninstalled ME 1 and 2. Once you made all the choices for the save file import, there's no point playing it again when you can watch the other endings on the Tube. Interestingly, I still have TF2, BF2, BC2 and BF3 installed.

Conversely, I own but don't play TF2 all that much, so perhaps I should be arguing for the inclusion of a story driven, singleplayer campaign for no other reason than because it suits my tastes better.

Alternatively, I could play something else.

Which isn't so much of an '...and this is why multiplayer shouldn't be included' thing. I'm a little... puzzled as to why it's being included, but I'll roll with it. But seriously. Y'don't like singleplayer? You prefer multiplayer? Fair enough, just don't buy singleplayer games and expect change to suit a preference that's entirely removed from what they are.

Even though it seems that the MP element was developed by a different team, I find it hard to believe that the budget for the SP would not have been cut to fund this. I expect that some extra funds were available but I doubt that the budget for the SP was the same as it would have been without the MP.

They may have had the time to make the content but whether they had the money to do it well is the question.

I cant see how multiplayer could fit in mass effect but I think as long as it doesn't draw away any effort from the single player that we know and love why not? If assassins creed could do it why not Mass Effect? Give it a chance you never know!

Oh god there are seriously some huge whiners in this thread. Whatever, whine all you like.

Me? I'll be enjoying playing through ME3 3 or 4 times thanks to this.

1) My main game with my best friend over the internet.
2) My best friend's main game as the coop companion over the internet.
3) A local friend's main game as the coop companion at his house (if there's split screen).
4) Possibly play my main game by myself.

So go feel sorry for yourselves that like... the programmers used their free time to do something awesome? Really, you people are so silly. Network programmers aren't the same as scenario design programmers. Or maybe you think the network programmers are going to model and animate new enemies? Because every last member of BioWare's staff went to school three times longer than necessary to learn every last role in video game development. And who is gonna pay for the ten programmers to work on this for a year? Uh, maybe the projected increase in sales from adding such a cool feature?

...So yeah, you CAN add features without cutting game content.

Not that I care for the multiplayer which could potentially be fun.
If EA cares to tie in the servers through Origin like they've done with BF3 we're looking at another Origin Exclusive.
