I have the mages/templars and redcliff joining the fight against the darkspawn. My problem is I ask if they need hel for example the mage, and he says ruins will help. But there is no follow up dialog for my to give him ruins or give money to redcliff. Is it too early in the game or is this a random bug or something?

To give resources to your troops, you must interact with the boxes in front of the army representatives in party camp. Those crates are near the tents, and will have some people representing your main troops behind.
Keep in mind, though, that if you dont have any runes or enough money to give, the option won't appear once you interact with the boxes.
