I still haven't seen anything that makes me think it's more than co-op. As long as that's the case I'm relatively okay with this. Although frankly it still seems like wasted resources. How many people that didn't play ME1 and 2 are really going to jump on 3? How many people that played 1 and 2 needed MP to be convinced to buy 3? I don't understand the logic but as long as the game is still standout I won't care.

Sources have told Eurogamer that Mass Effect 3 includes an online enabled co-op mode that is standalone and features competitive elements.We understand BioWare Montreal was creating a multiplayer Mass Effect experience, either as a standalone game or component of Mass Effect 3.
If this is true then it means the SP is unaffected - MP is seperate and a seperate studio is developing the MP (I'm pretty sure Bioware Montreal isn't the one doing ME3).

As soon as I read the "Multiplayer Confirmed in ME3" at IGN, I came ASAP to see this forum in chaos!
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to play the MAIN CAMPAIGN in co-op mode. But this news is sure to get 90% of the forumites crazy (in a good or bad way).
In other news: I bet this is what caused the release date to be delayed!

A online coop campaign mode would not be that bad, provided I am Shepard, I am a control freak, only I can make the decisions. Wahahaha! Or a reaper mode, where team of 5 defend against horde of reapers and husks, wave after wave. BUT IF YOU ADD COMPETITIVE FPS STYLE GAMEMODE I WILL NOT BUY THIS.
