The difference is adding multiplayer would mean there would be less time for single player development. If as someone said they had already finsihed the campaing a while back they could have done something useful like add more single player content. Give us more teamate dialogue, give us another planet, hell add another teammate(though honestly that would probably be too much effort). Or even better ship the damn game out early. That would have been awesome.
Haven't you noticed that a seperate team works on MP and seperate one on SP? Geez, people are so stubborn and feverish in their assumptions...

Oh hai there. I assume you'd like to whip my ass in live play?I'm game.
I'm a Prince. I only lay royal ass whoopings.
Don't hurt me. You must respect your elders.
One of the first thing I learned, don't worry about it. Still won't stop me from kicking some culo though.
I'm used to it. I'm also a gracious loser.
Prepare to be so swept up in defeat that you will be assimilated into THE HERD.

If there is a separate team working on MP then that means less people working on SP. The SP experience will not be as good as it could have been because time and resources were diverted to creating MP.kamilszmid wrote...

To everyone saying "Hurr you don't have to play multiplayer durr." You don't understand at all. All of those resources SHOULD have been put into what made Mass Effect the game it was: the Singleplayer story.
N7 Edition Preorder cancelled. Thanks for dumping on your fanbase Bioware. Also, to be frank, cancelling a pre-order over one feature you don't like, nor are forced to use, shows how little faith you have in Bioware.
- Resources for single player would be compromised by the addition of this mode
- That the same team working on SP is working on MP, when evidence suggests a different team is doing MP
1) Take a good hard look at DA2's end result of Bioware's catering to the masses
2) I have faith in God, not in a game company that's hungry for money (Herp de derp go ahead, make fun of me cause I believe in God). I'm making assumptions based off my observations from DA2 and other games from different companies. To those of you saying it's "immature," you're not fooling anyone. Stop clinging to EA's (and/or Bioware's)leg.

...which is why Casey Hudson stated that these are co-op "missions." Do people not read here?AmstradHero wrote...
I posted this elsewhere, but I'm disappointed that multiplayer has been bundled into ME3. Here's why:
Basic combat mechanics are only the simplest aspect of how this will play out. It' should not be too difficult to deal with the issues of party members having worse damage and weapon/skill selection. Though It's also importatnt to know how the players will work together and how those skill selections will function for individual people. How many people can play? Two? Three? Who picks who comes along for the mission? Is it the host player? Or is the other person/people? What if a squadmate is mandatory for a particular mission? What happens if players two/three do not like the skill selection that the host player has made for the particular squad mates that are coming along for the mission? Can the players jump in and out whenever they want?
How will ammo management work? What if one person can pick up all the ammo if they run over it? What happens if someone goes down? Can they be brought back up like in Gears of War? What happens if Shepard goes down? Can the squadmates revive him/her? These are just some of the issues that need to be dealt with if introducing co-op play to a game.
Making a game MP is not as simple as changing a few variables and you're done. Not even close. As someone who has done modding/coding for both single player and multiplayer games, let me tell you that the amount of work required to make something multiplayer friendly rather than just single player is substantial.
Even more importantly, Mass Effect has always been about the story. It's about the player making decisions, engaging in dialogue and making decisions as well as combat. The introduction of co-op MP will mean either:
a) Secondary players get bored while Shepard does all the talking and makes all the decisions.Dialogue and choices are reduced to alleviate the above boredom problem.
Personally, I don't like either of these options. I sure as heck don't want to play second fiddle to someone else's Shepard, and I even more passionately don't want the amount of dialogue and choice from the first two games to
be reduced to cater for MP co-op play.
The process of turning a game into multiplayer is not a simple task, even if it's co-op. There seems to be a commonly held belief that "MP means sales", but it's an unnecessary addition that is simply likely to dilute the Mass Effect experience.
I've just finished Gears of War 3 co-op with a friend - and we've been through the entire series together. I enjoyed it a great deal, but it's a very different experience from Mass Effect. I'd prefer them to stay different. I like both because they offer different things. I don't want them to be the same. I'll likely get accused of complaining before we know any details or "being a whinging BSN idiot", but I'm responding in anger here. Whether co-op or PvP, I believe that multiplayer is a completely unnecessary addition to Mass Effect 3.
This has nothing to do with the single player campaign, and therefore they can tweak the gameplay however they want.

I agree, if we can play the standard sp campaign without origin needed I am happy (and wont cancel and bioware keeps my $150nz)charmingcharlie wrote...

Question-
Who's canceling their preorders? And I mean REALLY.
To be honest the Multiplayer isn't a "pre-order" cancelling event. I would ordinarily just ignore the crappy shoe horned in multiplayer rubbish that game companies force on us these days. However since I am a PC gamer this makes the likelihood of Mass Effect 3 using Origin even greater. Now being forced to install Origin on my PC is a deal breaker, I refuse to have anything to do with that pile of spyware from EA.
So I haven't cancelled my pre-order yet over the multiplayer announcement but I am waiting to see if it will require Origin to play. The minute it has been clarified that Origin is needed then Bioware can say goodbye to my £70.

I'm pretty disappointed in BioWare. This situation reminds me of what Bethesda has done with Skyrim. They want to focus all of their time and efforts in making the best single player experience possible. BioWare cannot or will not because of EA.For anyone that hasn't caught on yet, this is fake.LPPrince wrote...

No, of course not. Haven't you been paying attention? The only DLC we'll get is map packs. I read it right here on the BSN.

And when that happens Bioware will make more shooter games and less rpgs to please their new audience. DA2 is evidence of Bioware trying to please "new fans"
Then, if that's not your cup of tea, you go buy someone else's games. In the end, they're just a game developer.
And when there are no true rpg's left because I've just gone and bought someone else's games without informing the developers of my dissatisfaction, what then?
