I just hope and pray that the SP campaign is a separate experience.

Oh, c'mon!  Is this really a realistic concern?

What can I say: "Told ya so". Let the drama begin.

There was a frenzy last night. I was priveleged to witness it. :wizard:

Was this morning for me before work *sigh* I just want to know what sort of MP it is so I either run for the hills for being called a noob or if its something I can do with my sister. As I said in the old thread we should do a thread closer to the time for those you want to play with fellow BSN'ers or a group. :wizard:

I support this. Especially for epic suck players like me. *snicker*

Hey guys, guess what? Secret feature X has just been revealed, and it isn't multiplayer. Bioware has decided to distribute Mass Effect 3 on the LeapFrog, ad has added multiplayer to convert CoD fans to using LeapFrog. Now children 2- 12 can save the galaxy with all their friends.

Sources have told Eurogamer that Mass Effect 3 includes an online enabled co-op mode that is standalone and features competitive elements. We understand BioWare Montreal was creating a multiplayer Mass Effect experience, either as a standalone game or component of Mass Effect 3.

If this is true then it means the SP is unaffected - MP is seperate and a seperate studio is developing the MP (I'm pretty sure Bioware Montreal isn't the one doing ME3).

This brings me some piece of mind. My only objection to MP was that it would take away from the SP because I'd rather BW spend time making things nice and shiny (and checking those darn import flags!).

I don't play MP, but as long as my SP isn't affected, I don't really care.

There's nothing to worry about - they put a different studio on MP and delayed the game to ensure that both SP and MP were up to scratch. The SP will be unaffected.

Now this is the only thing that truly pisses me off.  Is there a a possibility that if there was no MP we would've gotten the game in December?  I was okay with the push back when I thought about all the SP polishing they could do.  But if I'm waiting another three months so a bunch of people can call each other noobs online that's rather upsetting.

Question-

Who's canceling their preorders? And I mean REALLY.

I'm going to buy the CE. And I'll probably don't play MP (since I'm not going to spend money on the Live).

Now would be too early to cancel pre orders. Almost none of you have played any build of the game. If you got hands on the game or demo and decided it was seriously lacking, you could justifiably cancel your pre order. This is what I did with BF3, though if better news on the implementation of Battlelog comes in I may get the game later.

I hope they go in a direction with MP similar to what Ubisoft did with Assassins Creed. People didn't think MP would work in that game at all, and it actually ended up being very unique and fun and fitting with the game.

I'm just worried because I think MP in any form does not jive with the strengths of Mass Effect. Even though combat was improved in 2, its still no where close to something like Gears or Halo. The strengths of Mass Effect...story, characters, atmosphere, soundtrack, dialogue...simply do not translate to multiplayer.

I just don't see any way it can work, and even if they do figure something clever out, who's going to play it? They aren't going to see huge MP numbers. People don't buy Mass Effect for its action, they buy it for the story and single player experience. If there's MP in ME3, why should I play it when I have Gears 3 (a near perfect MP experience, thanks to years of polish and established, fun gameplay)?

Introducing MP into ME3 just seems like a forced move to me. Does BW really want this? Is this what they envisioned when they were in pre-production for ME1? BW has zero track record in making MP games. They're just starting to figure out how to make a half decent shooter than is controllable and coherent. ME3 is probably the biggest, most anticipated game BW has ever made. Multiplayer seems like an unneccessary addition that could bog down valuable resources.

Yes it is. A cancelling event. It means they took time away from the main campaign to focus on irrelevant **** that could have been held off for another game in another year.

What, no LOL DUH STOOPID comments now? Awwww, sowwy to spoil your fun. At least you've got MP now, your style of conversation should fit in well there.

LOL.  That one was pretty stupid.  I never once requested MP.  I just don't particularly care, and will wait for further details.

Not happy. But why would anyone care about what I think? I am used to being treated like a second class citizen for playing single player games.

I'm going to hold off judgment until I get concrete details on what the MP aspect entails. Personally I wouldn't mind if it ends up being co-op similar to Resident Evil 5, where a buddy can jump into the main campaign and take control of a party member. If it's competitive I'll need to be thoroughly convinced of its implementation before I start to care about it.

I've always thought that if Bioware added a co-op system that allows extra players to drop in as Shepard's squadmates like in RE5, but keeping the ME1&2's squadmate AI for singleplayer, so you aren't FORCED to play multiplayer like in that game, than that could make the game a lot more fun. *puts on asbestos suit*

Now that we're done with the BS non-denial denials...

1) I HAVE FURY!!! *G* Okay, okay, I'm really not happy about this, but as I said not two hours ago on another thread, I have absolutely zero leverage to do anything about it, since the only way I won't be buying ME3 is if it becomes impossible for some reason (lose my job, the world ends, etc).

2) I watched my wife go through this with Assassin's Creed. Multiplayer creep will happen, and I won't buy any post-ME3 products that have MP. I fell in love with a world, with characters, with the power to change (virtual) lives and futures. Even if I did want to do MP, the combat system is okay, but there are games that focus on shooting, powers, and/or squad tactics that do those things much better.

3) I expect my refusal to buy future ME games with MP to give me exactly as much leverage on the future direction of ME as I have now. I have to say, this is the sort of evil genius I expect of Doctor Doom or Darth Sidious. ME3 is the perfect "transition" product from a popular RPG franchise to EA's clearly-hoped-for Halo killer, with guaranteed sales in the millions. So what if they lose hundreds of thousands of devoted Bioware RPG players post-ME3 (because let's face it, we're all buying 3), as long as they get a few million new online fraggers? The numbers make sense if they can make the transition work. (I will admit to being just bitter enough to hope this plan crashes and burns.)
