As mentioned by Casey on Twitter, we are confirming that there will be 4 player Co-op multiplayer missions for Mass Effect 3. We will have more details on this feature on Wednesday when the announcement was supposed to be made.
I know the immediate reaction by some is to panic and think of how this will ruin the Mass Effect series or whatever. PLEASE do not over react or assume the worst until you actually hear details on this feature and how it will work. I will try to get approval to give you details so you can make up your minds with the correct details. Marketing's plan was to announce on Wednesday, but I'll see if I can speed this up.
So, until you learn the details, I urge people to have cautious optimism or wary negativity until you get the real details. Thanks everyone. Stay tuned.

Here, look, I've answered that for you.iakus wrote...

Again, for the 100th time today, how are they ruining the SP experience? They aren't one and the same. They are two seperate games. You don't have to play MP.
Are people even thinking before they post?
They're not seperate games unless they are seperate installations. If I can't install ME3campaign modewithout installing multiplayer, they are in fact one and the same. Just different features of the same game.
Will SP powers be altered to "balance" for MP? No.
Will enemies? No.
Squadmates? No.
WIll any missions or dialogue or plotlines in SP be left out because they can't shoehorn everything and MP onto the disks? No, they most likely finished all of that before starting work on the MP, for that exact reason.
Will missing features be relegated to paid DLCs because of this? No. There will probably be paid DLC anyway, though.
Will I have to have an online connection to play SP? To install and activate it, yes, like Steam. You can run Origin in offline though, so overall, no.
Will I need Origin just to play my Shepard? Probably.
WIll ME3 be an "okay"40 hour game when it could have been an extraordinary 50 hour game, because of resource/space limitations? It would either have been a great, if unpolished, SP game coming out in November, or a great polished SP game with an extra co-op feature coming out in March. You choose.

Back to the English teacher thing, though- I'm insanely OCD, as it bugs me to no end that he said "an multiplayer...." in that tweet.
Well, then you'll be pleased to know they deleted it and then reposted with the proper indefinite article.

and here we have it Ladies & Gentleman, a perfect way to RUIN a perfect singleplayer experience... what the **** are you thinking BioWare ?
Feeling left out by crap like Bulletstorm ?

They are indeed linked. While its different for every company, in general multiplayer and single player draw from the same resource pools. To make one, you take from the other. So to add multiplayer you either give yourself a bigger budget (and or hire another company to do it for you) or you cut up your current budget.
Bioshock 2 and assassins creed brotherhood are both good examples of both extremes.
Oh god, not the resource argument again *facepalm*
Again, we have no idea what resources or budgets Bioware had when it came to this game. Maybe they had one really, really full pool? Maybe they had two teams with two full pools?
Until you've played the game, you can't comment on whether they have sacrificed anything for the addition of MP.
Facepalm all you wish, but it is the general truth. It does take resources. How you handle those resources depends on who you talk to.
If you have two teams with their own resources, then you had one pool of resurces you split into two. To give both teams the same amount of resources would be staggeringly high.
And yes I can say they sacrificed something. Somethings is ALWAYS sacrificed before the game is launched. The difference is why they are sacrificed. Was feature A cut because feature it would take too much time and resources? Or was the same feature cut to add in another mechanic?
Whether you deny it things will be sacrificed because of multiplayer. The difference will be whether multiplayer and singleplayer will be good enough for us not to notice or care. To say multiplayer won't take any resources is simple ignorance.
Take the examples I gave you. Bioshock 2 and Assassins creed Brotherhood. They both show examples of both the right and wrong management of resources when it comes to multiplayer. (although to be fair ubisoft dedicates more resources and employees to the assassins creed series than bioware does with on two games combined.)

The... I guess I'll call it pessimism (instead of blindly labeling it ignorance) in this thread truly depresses me. I cannot fathom why the inclusion of a CO-OP multiplayer mode somehow ruins the game. Co-op modes in games are quite possibly my favorites and I'm very excited to see one implemented in my favorite game universe.
A few months ago bioware was specifically asked if there was going to be multiplayer. They responded by saying that no, ME3 is a singleplayer RPG.
Know you know why people are so upset.
What were they supposed to do? Out a feature that they had been working on in secret, ruining any chance for marketing momentum to be gained from it? They weren't ready to reveal the multiplayer yet. Answering that question honestly would be revealing the multiplayer. They don't have carte blanche to reveal features whenever they want.
Even so, the reaction I'm seeing isn't primarily a "Bioware lied to us, that disappoints me." its a "OH MY GOD BIOWARE PUT IN MULTIPLAYER THE GAME IS RUINED SO I'MMA CANCEL MY PREORDER BECAUSE THEY SOLD OUT AND NOW MASS EFFECT IS ANOTHER CALL OF DUTY!"
I know that doesn't represent everybody. But I think the average IQ on this forum drops 3 points every time I see one of those posts.
They are saying they are cancelling their preorders on the official forum, so that their displeasure may be noted here before they disappear from view. That is all. You can't expect angry people to leave quietly.

Still why are you only attacking me with old post that were made before the rumor was confrimed? There are tons of other people here that posted the exact same thing and still are and yet you chose me. I reported you earlier for harrassment. Enjoy.Ruud333 wrote...

Those post were made a while back before the multiplayer rumor was confirmed.
They were also made before there was a 'watertight' denial of MP, and yet you seemed so sure. It seemed to really bother you that we couldn't get it through our thick skulls
And like I said I stand by what I said and wish good luck to Bioware on taking on this big challenge now that they confirmed it. If they pull it off good on them since it will just make them look even better.

Kidding...
I would of preferred death match cause it would have no inkling on the story, but as long as coop doesn't contain shepard, or if it does, you can also play it as single player.
I'm not too worried about the quality of it... I have played the SWTOR beta and that is really well done (with conversations and so forth) so if mass effect 3 doesn't go into the red area of me.
e.g. the multiplayer missions can be played single player, and / or don't have really any connection to the single player story (e.g. doesn't have shepard, cause mass effect 1-3 was all about shepard) I'll be happy... Mostly if we can play it single player as well. Cause everyone i know dislikes mass effect =(

I'd argue that with Mass Effect's defense and power systems, there is greater potential for a meaningful co-op experience than most games have.
Agreed. I still wish they had saved it all for a spin off that actually focused on the multiplayer element though.
