You know...I've been defending Bioware a lot despite all the ****hattery that's been going on lately. (DA2, casualizing ME, Kinect, etc)

But this...god dammit. Even if it is simply Co-Op, that's no excuse. Mass Effect is a single player action RPG ffs. Every bit of time and resources that were spent on this abomination is time and resources taken away from the Single player experience. You know...what they game actually is.

Please Bioware...stop trying to make Mass Effect into the next Cawadoody. It's maddening to say the very least and insulting to the fans of this game.

I want to note my keen disappointment at the "Boycott Bioware!" thread being locked before I could make a snarky comment about childish over-reaction.

Looks like someone doesn't know how to read between the lines. That's ok, I'll explain it to you.

This has been the whole angle of information for multiplayer for the past four months:
No.
No.
No.
Mass Effect is a singleplayer game.
Ah, tricked ya! There is. Problem?

I'll find the links of those four articles if I can manage to dig them up.

So, when it took a leak and then a legitimate confirmation after four months of word-twisting, it seemed like a giant middle-finger to the fans (the majority declaring their anti-multiplayer stance for quite awhile), and I know that I'm not the only one who felt this. The "boycott bioware" thread wasn't meant to be taken it in full literality, it was, for all intents and purposes, a big middle-finger right back at them. Seems like I was the only one willing to stand up and make the front page for it though. S'all good, I got the spotlight.

Simplified, Sexualized, Destructuralized. The three major fatal missteps of development in Mass Effect 2 & 3.

I just wanted to say it speaks volumes of immaturity for the people who are boycotting this game because of optional co-op that has no impact on the single player experience.

If by 'no impact' you mean 'taking a large amount of resources away from', then sure.

And where did you get the evidence? Oh yeah from thin air, right?

Yes, because I'm sure that this feature was created in a magic time vaccum that required none of the original team to make.

Assassins Creed Brotherhood, Uncharted 2, and Portal 2. All completely terrible single player games when they added in the MP, AMIRITE?

Agreed.

Yep, I mean Uncharted 2 never won multiple Game of the Year awards or anything. BioWare has been talking about how amazing the SP experience is, all the stuff they've confirmed for us and from what we've heard about the increased squad banter, more areas and RPG elements upgraded. Do you REALLY think they'd lie about that

Furthermore, as the last entry in their critically acclaimed series of which they themselves are big fans of, WHY would they be determined to gimp the SP experience and the end of the entire trilogy? It's not going to happen.

Quoted for truth.
Even if it takes a single day to develop, it's a wasted day.

If they knew they didn't have the resources to finish the single player game, I highly doubt they would start making a multiplayer game. So I'm not worried, I liked the first game and the second (a lot), I don't think the third one will drop in quality just because they added a multiplayer option.

No, it takes money and resources.  Whether or not that money and those resources would have ever been used for Single Player is something neither you nor I nor anyone here who doesn't have an intimate acquaintance with the details of Bioware's budget allocation process knows.

Urhm, you do know it's most likely getting developed at Montreal, not Edmonton right?

So...I wonder if they'll make it multi-platform co-op. I doubt it, but one can dream, right!? (There were a couple games where you could play 360 and PC like Shadowrun, and PS3 and PC such as Portal 2.) I want my PC BSN peeps to play with me. D: So...who's playing it on Xbox? ^.^

Definitely worthwhile question to ask.

Would be fantastic if it would bridge the platforms somewhat. Although I don't do multiplayer, I'd be tempted to get into it because my brothers play on xbox and i play on PC. So we can bring the family together!

I see I'm late to the party.

Anyway, while I'm not too thrilled about this, I'll try and keep an open mind. It'll probably be enjoyable, so there's no reason to get my knickers in a bunch. As long as the SP is amazing, this is all just icing on the cake.

Unlike some here, I'm not going to scrutinize every little bit of content that could have been added to the SP if this wasn't included. There's no point in whining about theoretical content that could have been. That is the path of madness.

The majority of people where? On BSN? Maybe. In the entire video game market? I highly doubt that. Some of the best-selling games of all time are multiplayer games. Multiplayer is a feature that will undoubtedly bring in thousands of new fans.

You don't know if resources or money were taken from the single player; that is your assumption. If the game is very buggy/sloppy/whatever, then you might have a case, but no game is perfect. The problem is people are going to blame every bug on the existence of multiplayer, ignoring the fact that ME1 and ME2 were pretty buggy themselves.

Multiplayer is not as big as you think.  There are polls out there that say that people still play alone most of teh time.  I also doubt it will bring in "thousands on new fans"  I doubt even a hundred new.  Some tacked on MP is not going to bring all of teh CoD and Battlefield fans, sorry.

And fro the reaction I have seen on Facebook, IGN, Gamefaq boards and on here.  I think it is safe to say that a very loud majority of fans in many forums have expressed their displeasure for this addition....

Personally, I think this is a bad move.  ME does not need this "feature" and will not benefit from it, as experience has shown that any game with this combination always tends to sacrifice the single player experience for the multiplayer component, and that's pretty much always.

Unless ME3 is going on a Blu-ray, there's only so much you can stuff on a disc intended to run on a console.  Something has to give, and it's not looking hopeful.

Alas.

Baldur's Gate 2 had multi-player.

My personal fav game ever.

LIES!!!

Remember that in the AC series nobody thought of a MP mode that worked with that type of game until Brotherhood. Have a little faith in the developers, it's obvious that would be a bad move to implement a bad MP experience and screw the trilogy.
Perhaps we will see an alternative storyline, characters and locations at the same time of the SP (ala SC: Conviction) I think that would be a good way to expand the universe: spectre missions, cerberus operations or something like that.

Trust me, any multiplayer work is time that could be used for the Single player.  No way to get around that simple fact.

I think SP will be fine. But I wouldn't look at Bioware's competence that much following DA2, even if they are different teams. Someone had to greenlight recycled environments, after all.
