Mass Effect 3 is just another victim of EA's desire to attract the COD playerbase ME2 was the just the begining with it's dumbed down RPG elements poor story and increased linearity. The additon of multiplayer is just another indication that the Bioware that brought us great games such as knights of the old republic, mass effect 1, and dragon age:origins is long dead thanks to the corrupting influence of EA. But whatever at least there's still Bethesda that actually still makes real RPG's instead of destroying once great franchises in an attempt to appeal to the lowest common denominator of the gaming world.

I have already canceled my preorder and I urge other RPG fans to do the same.

Exactly and I do not mean it in a Shooter vs RPG way, I mean it in a general perspective.

As I said before, this is bigger than Mass Effect and even Bioware. I believ the entire videogame industry is losing their vision.

Going back to my Battlefield 3 vs Battlefield 2 example, while the map sizes might be the same, the flag points in conquest mode are closer to each other in BF3 while in BF2 they were much further apart. This is because it makes the experience "easier" for those who were turned off by the large scale maps from BF2, 2142, Vietnam, and 1942.  What is one thing that Call of Duty fans like? Small maps with all the objectives clustered together. What did they hate? Having to get into a vehicle to go to a control point. So what did DICE do for BF3? They put the points closer together to cater to the COD audience who was turned off by the BF2 scope of maps.

So this isn't just Bioware or Mass Effect that is experiencing lost vision, but the entire industry.

It isn't that RPG games aren't profitable, it is just that if you take a look at some of the hottest games to date, they are hardcore shooters such as COD, Gears of War, and Uncharted. If Bioware wants some of those fans, I wonder what would they have to do to the ME gameplay design to cater to these fans and make the ME franchise attractive to them?

Again, Mass Effect's vision was lost with Mass Effect 2.

I was looking at the 4min long Uncharted 3 gameplay trailer last night and I was amazed at how much the linear level design and combat features reminded me of Mass Effect 3.

Bioware hasn't just lost its vision. It's lost all common fcking sense. Some suggestions I read sound like they come out of an asylum.

I do not understand why Bioware wastes so much time on these fangirls and casual market losers. They are the bottom tier of the game hierarchy. They know little to nothing about good games and yet Bioware thinks its wise to appeal to them.

When Bioware made ME1, it was bloody brilliant. me2, still good, but trying to appeal to BANG BANG idiots. and now, what do we got in me3? multiplayer and fking men in the bum. YAY, I'm so looking forward to this.

thumbs down Bioware. thumbs down.

I feel you pain man and I agree that this is all about bringing in the COD type/shooter players. Once upon a time [circa 2002] Bioware was the vanguard for the RPG genre. They were to North American/Europe in terms of RPGs as to what SquareSoft was to RPGs in the 1990s. Now, I cannot say the same.

As for cancelling pre-orders. Well I will still get ME3 day 1 mainly because I want to see how the story ends.

However our opinions are in the serious minority here. This isn't the Bioware forums of say....4 years ago....

You catch back and forths on this, but no doubt there are tons of us fans that they hooked and got in love with the ME1 universe and then pulled a switch and made it more about action and combat to sell big.

We just have to come to the realization that this isn't the Bioware that we grew up with. The same philosphy of Bioware today isn't the same as it was when they were developing Neverwinter Nights or Baulder's Gate. You as well as myself has to look at Bioware today as a new Bioware, separate from what it once was.

To make a comparison, think of Bioware circa 1998-2007 as to the Star Wars OT and Bioware present to the Star Wars PT.

When I take a look at the personalities of the forums today, it is a stark contrast to what it used to be. I bet MORE than half of the people who post here are people who became Mass Effect fans with Mass Effect 2. Meaning that they didn't jump onto the bandwagon until late 2009/early 2010. Those of us who were here since 2007 and prior make up the minority.

I've been following the Bioware forums since 2002.

You have fun with that.

Bioware has not only screwed the pooch, they've taken a giant dump on it. This isn't just a "change" it's like the biggest retarded metamorphosis, i've ever did see. It's like they're evolving backwards.

God knows I'm going to struggle against this evolution. Seriously, if the fangirls can b1tch until Bioware changes the COLOR OF SOME FCKING  INSIGNIFICANT BARBIE SHEPARD.

Then why can't we suggest a change that actually impacts the game?

Possibly.

It all depends on whether the unneccesary addition of multiplayer comes at the expense of the single player game. If the single player campaign is shorter or less satisfying than ME1 or ME2 because resources that might have otherwise been spent on its development were diverted to multiplayer, then Bioware has lost its vision.

We won't know until we see the first reviews.

you're preaching to the choir my friend. I'm one of those fans since me1. hell, I've played Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights.

Unfortunately, Mass Effect popularity spawned a group of casual player ****** offs, who should just stick to ****** gestures with the wii.

I didn't think it would happen. I swore up and down that Bioware of all developers would not cave in to the COD and GOW crowd, but they have. I've come to terms with it. The Bioware we knew is gone. Just another company pumping out pathetic, linear shooters.

Mass Effect was originally designed to center around you and your Shepard. Not around you and a bunch of people who don't know how to play as a team (I'm looking at you COD, GOW, and BF). The shooting elements of Mass Effect 1 were tactical  and squad-based.  In Mass Effect 2, it was all about the GOW cooridor-shooting and the trainwreck of a plot mechanic.

Now...Mass Effect 3, a pure and shining testament of how Bioware is pissing all over its fanbase to bring in the masses. I said that I was one crappy announcement away from cancelling my N7 Edition Preorder. Guess what. I've cancelled my preorder, and six friends of mine have done the same thing for the same reason: Mass Effect is dead.

For those of you who buy it, have fun with your horde-mode, flashy, shiny Gears of War clone. That's all you're going to get. Just be sure you are willing to fork over those $65 to support EA and Bioware's corruption. Oh, and be ready to be nickle-and-dimed another $20-30 (maybe more) for that DLC.

Funny thing is, I was even one of the 50 recipents of that developer gift ME3 Normandy avatar prop. Guess what I'm taking off my avatar?

If I do happen to buy the game at a later date, it will be used. I'm going to make sure that my (legal) aquisition of ME3 will send no money to Bioware or EA. Who cares if I don't get the online pass.

I am not creating a thread to bash on the game. I for one hope the game turns out well, but with all the things Bioware is doing to the game it seems as though ME3 is becoming nothing more than a fanboy and shooter gamer draw. I mean they seem to be more about pleasing everyone instead of sticking with their already solid core game and just fixing the problems and adding better things. Instead they have made most of the Li's bi, added  pointless Kinect support, and now as we all know they have added multiplayer as well(Which btw was something they said they weren't going to do multiple times for this game.). Didn't see that coming(sarcasm)! So, with all of the time and resources that they are putting into these new or redone features it is plain as day that they both could be better spent making the game better, longer and more fine tuned. So if ME3 comes out and it turns out to be a "Meh" game or worst case scenario, a bad game, Bioware has no excuse they can fall back on. The game was delayed so they have plenty of time. But now in retrospect I can see why it was delayed. Adding the multiplayer component. I mean I have heard from Casey's tweets that the main game is pretty much done. I think he said something like "putting the finishing touches on" or something like that. So, I have to admit I am now a little scared. My faith is wavering after seeing news of this multiplayer component, because I know that money and time could be better used giving us an even better, solid ending to the Shep Arch.

Is ME3 straying from the path?

Do you actually mean 'losing ITS vision'?

Bioware cannot lose a vision of something when they are the authors of what that vision is. Until I am writing games for Bioware, my vision of their games is irrelevant. ME3 is on exactly the path that Bioware has envisioned. Bioware owes me no concessions as a fan or a consumer. If they chose to do that, that's great but it's not required. I can either agree that I like their vision of ME, or I can decide that I do not and move on to other games. It really is that simple. Rage and hyperbole will not change that.

This. A thousand times this.
