I'm boring, I like to play pure class wizards, wizard/eldritch knight, or rogue/shadow dancers. Tried Arcane Trickster, decided it kinda sucked, and is it just me or is Pale Master in NWN2 kinda gimpy?

Anyways, the pure wizard class is just one of those basic, staple goodies that never get bad, because by the time you hit lvl 5 you are well on your way to being a one-man/woman army. Add in the eldritch knight class and it's awesome how one can buff then run right into battle (with plenty of "hit me and die" spells, pure win). This dress? IS MY ASS-KICKING DRESS. Go on, make fun of me again, PUNK. Bwahhaah-- ahem.

Rogue and shadow dancer for the HiPS ability, which is also win (though to be honest I never finished a second NWN OC play through, so never actually played SD; based on my general preferences in other games. If it's gimped in NWN I'm going to be sad).

Sorceror/Eldritch Knight/Red Dragon Disciple is one of my favourites. Your base attack bonus isn't great, but the RDD strength bonuses help to make up for that. It also doesn't matter if you need a few more swings to hit someone if you have blur, displacement, mirror image, etc cast on yourself. They buy you the extra time you need to get the hack-work done.

And if your melee attempts really go pear-shaped, there are always the fireburst spells to fall back on. They're a fighter-mage's best friend when you're surrounded.

I am the old dumb who play as a Fighter/Divine Champ/Rogue/Wizard with stupid high int and terrible spell cast failure chance.

Any wacky race/class combo - if I played PnP I'd probably drive the DMs crazy by using scores of variant rules and ridiculous combos in an attempt to squeeze every ounce of optimisation from my character (just for fun, really).

I think it's always really been wizards for me, though. I just feel more intelligent when I play one, and I've never really found the tactical options available to fighter-types very interesting compared with the world of wizardly might.

Wizard. Like Fred, I like the tactical options and planning necessary. I prefer to prestige class to Arcane Scholar of Candlekeep for the improved metamagic feats which really open options up. I also enjoy classing to a Frost Mage with Kaedrin's.

I also like Wizard because they are the great equalizer. You can level hordes of enemies, create a simalcrum of a single enemy and watch them duke it out, sprinkling lightning or fire as you see fit to make sure your side wins, or just disappear and walk away. It is really fun. I also like the roleplay options that wizard gives me. Since Int is your high suit, that means lots of skill points to throw around. Combine that with some of the prestige classes and you can really round out a character.

I also think robes and pointy hats are terribly stylish.

I really like Monks. I like defensive characters, with lots of immunities/resistances. They are fast, can act as scouts, attack hard and fast, great saves and spell resistance with no LA and are great mage killers.

Warlocks, combined with Hellfire Warlock naturally, as well. I like how they are gish-like (medium bab, light/medium armor/ higher HD) with some nice resistances and infinite ammo. Not that useful in the OCs but in hardcore campaigns they truly shine.

On my upcoming playthrough, I will make a Hexblade/Blackguard/Warrior of Darkness (Kaedrin's pack). Can't wait to try this bad boy on mages hehe.

I also find evil stumpies a fun;talking about Gray Dwarfs of course.I found that they make excelent rogue/(put class in her combo),right now playin' SoZ with four and wreckin' anything that comes close. For Dark elves I like to make pristess of Lolth,Coupla Dread Fangs and sorceror or wiziards

My absolute favourite character to play is a pure-class Generalist Wizard. However, in MP modules, I've played everything from zealous clerics to noble paladins to kleptomaniacal rogues to villainous blackguards.

Rogues. I just like getting up close and personal in battles, and there is some fun to be had with lock picking, traps and stealth. That goes for all RPGs I have ever played. If there isn't a rogue class, I'll just pick an equivalent thereof - if available. I can't seem to get into ranged combat at all, though I've recently tried playing the ME series, and it somewhat helped me adjust to fighting at a distance, even if it still feels impersonal. Perhaps next time I try a ranged class, I'll be able to complete a playthrough.

You could play a rogue with a ranged weapon. Crippling strike is a wasted feat if you want epic precision, but other than that hiccup rogues do well with bows. Rapid shot grants a fourth attack at the rogue's highest bonus with a mere -2 penalty. Once you snag the improved version that penalty is gone altogether. The ranged rogue also has an easier time avoiding damage at a slight distance, and can exploit hide in plain sight in the cheapest way possible.

The feat investment is not as steep as most melee builds either. Just avoid crossbows like the plague. They absolutely suck in this game.

I know I could, I've tried it before but it's just not my cup of tea. If I ever give it another shot, I'll at least know to avoid crossbows. Thanks.

Exactly, IF you see the Monk (Move Silently + Hide) ;).
Also, if you see him, you still need some time to summon and cast anything, that's more than enough for the Monk to close the distance and start his Quivering Palm/Improved Knockdown/Stunning Fist/Flurry of Blows combo.
Let's not forget that Magic Missiles are still subject to Spell Resistance.

Although I admit, anyone against a well prepared Wizard/Sorcerer doesn't have many chances.

If you have time to cast a spell, just cast shadow simulcrum and then leave as the monk beats himself senseless.  The spell has no save!

For D&D sorceror. For NWN2 Rogue or Explorer, can't decide which.
