Don't worry about SW3. The port from Wii to PS3 was pretty meh as it still retained all the things that were bad about SW3 (the slow framerate + choppy graphics). Plus, you have Warriors Orochi 3 coming out soon and you can use all the SW3 characters there. I also don't think there's going to be a big wait before SW4 rolls around (SW1 - 2003, SW2 - 2006, SW3 - 2009) and I really doubt that will be just stuck on Wii.

All we know at the moment is that it has a Q1 release in this year. So within these three months if all goes well.
And, wow, we really do have some broken records up in here. You'd think some people would just get over themselves but nah, they're too cool for that!

I wanted to see Strike Force 2 released :(

I don't know, they'd have to do some serious tweaking to Orochi 3 as compared to Orochi 1 and 2. I don't know any details on Orochi 3, so I don't know how they handled it.

It's basically one story rather than one for each faction however this one story roughly takes the same amount of time as the four combined. There are dream stages involved as well as the ability to replay some of the older stages with big differences. Characters are assigned into four types: Wonder, Technique, Speed and Power.
I can PM you a detailed review if you'd like but it seems to have improven on the previous two.

In any case, I'm more looking forward due to wanting to see the SW characters in high def and for them to be sped up.

I love this series! It's actually challenging when you first start out and try to get all the bonuses. Especially fighting LU BU on your 3rd or 4th map. I've got 3-6 and planning on getting 7. :3 I've also wanted to try Samurai Warriors and Warriors Orochi too because it's supposed to be similar.

That being said....

i really like the "one against the horde" gameplay of the Dynasty Warriors series. i hear there's a Gundam version that's pretty awesome.

noooooooo. it's not really a dynasty warriors game. not really. dynasty warriors has prettiful men that stab each other with pointy weapons, not giant robots in outer space. my brother and i have playful arguements about this so hopefully he won't see it, lol.

It's called Dynasty Warriors - Gundam in the West though. ;) And it is developed by Tecmo KOEI alongside Namco Bandai so I suppose calling it a 'Gundam version' is not incorrect.

Yeah, the whole 'one button! too easy!! duuuuurrrrr' type of argument is just ignorance at its best. A statement propagated by reviewers who a) didn't play the game very long and or B) didn't level up character or play on a higher difficulty. This kind of ignorant statement gets parroted by many across the net. I understand that some people can have legitimate issues with the game, lord knows I've been disenchanted with the series but it's pretty off putting to have people mindlessly bash it. It's the way of things though!

I really play the games for two reasons though, I love the setting, the characters and the background and it's a good type of game to let off steam as well. There's a certain satisfaction in setting it to easy or whatever and just going to town on the battlefield.

I play it on my PSP still. It's actually a good pick up and play portable title. I also still have the very first one on the PSX. It was a fighter similar to Soul Calibur.

That sounds like that's all I need.  And they added a fourth type, that's good.  I was getting tired of the story being split up into the different factions.  And an update on the graphics is another thing I was looking for.  The only Samurai Warriors games I played was the first one and the one for PSP.  When the PSP was first released, I also bought Dynasty Warriors, but hated the loading between the areas.  I never picked up DW 2.0 for the PSP.

Actually, one of the things I enjoyed with Orochi 2 was the fact that Guan Ping had his weapons from DW5.

Orochi 1 and 2 followed the main designs of Dynasty Warriors 5 and Samurai Warriors 2. That's why Guan Ping kept his weapon and there was none of that DW6 hoopla except for the costumes cropping up. Orochi 3 follows the main designs of DW7 and SW3. Luckily Guan Ping received a giant blade in DW7 and while I do prefer his previous moveset, it is pretty nifty.

SW2 is alright, I suppose. Albeit it does pale in comparison to SW1 imo and it does get pretty tedious. SW3 of course has the Wii issue. I hear that the SW game that was released on the 3DS was pretty decent though.

Yea I have SW2 on the PC and it does lack some of the great character from SW1(like my favourite Kunoichi)

Yeah, I guess you could consider me a fan. I guess my connections with the series have dipped over the years though. I went from getting every game and every expansion to just giving the base game a spin. After DW4 and its expansions, I just stopped. I prefer the SW series though. I was disappointed by 3. It had some good stories but it was just so sluggish.

Heh I am actually kind of the opposite. I only ever rent the main entries and then I buy the empires version when they come out. Although Dynasty warriors 7 surprised me enough that I bought it.

I was dissapointed with SW 3 if only because I can't play it. I curse whoever decided to not port it to the 360.

But with DW7 they have shown they are willing to revamp. They have finally got out of that silly rut. the musou's for example now have an incredble system to them... They all have a basic "type" of musou but all characters now have to musou's, and the second one usually has a condition you have to fulfill to do it. (I.E must be in midair, must guard, etc)

They also implimented a "seamless" battlefield system they experimented with in SW (2?).  You now play "parts" of a battle, and parts of the field unlock as you progress.

Let me tell you, you have not missed out on any thing. SW3 is so boring and very big on having you fight on the same levels over and over and over and over again. SW3 is by far the worst of them all. I wont to nuke every Nobnuga levels, as every character in the game plays through the Nobnuga levels on the side of Nobnuga. It is insane.

I've been a fan of DW sence DW4. I loved DW5, SW2, WO, WO2, and DWG. I was largly dissappointed with DW6, DW6E, DWG2, and DWG3. I was dissappointed that DW7 because it did not have mushu mode. I have not play DW7XL.

I know that but in the character selection there is clearly a category marked SW3 with about 4-5 characters. I'm even using one in the campaign, Motochika Chosokabe(he wasn't in SW1 or 2)

Ah ok, guess that group of "SW3" characters was a typo or a mistranslation.

Yeah, the SW characters are a bit weirdly categorised in WO. I believe the trend continues in WO3.

Well I am just worried about Koei lately. They have slowly been cutting off their releases over here to the states, and while SW3 might not have been that great, the SW series is my favorite out of all of them and I was really looking forward to the SW3: Empires.

I guess i'll just have to hope for a DW7:E instead.

Well, Tecmo and Koei are now merged. I don't know if that means anything, but it could be their efforts are more towards Ninja Gaiden III right now.

It could be they know it's going to sell and I don't think Samurai Warriors sells as well outside of Japan.

Sells more than they would have by not providing it in the west, and in the case of the company itself as far as I am aware the merger allows each entity to still be separate while pooling and combining resources for their projects, and also allowing crossovers.

For example in warriors orochi (the newer one I believe) they have some tecmo characters as well as all the Dynasty/samurai warriors characters.

Ryu was one of them I think.

I think it's better to just let go the whole SW3 series of games. The game was originally developed for the Wii and its release (along with Empires) are simply upscale ports. Significantly weaker, slower and less pretty than if developed for a higher end console originally.
Don't worry about. Warriors Orochi 3 is set to be released here and I really do think SW4 will make its way here too.
