1. All their abilites don't appear on the action bar when you summon them
2. They don't have a spell tab, so there is no way to drag abilities to their action bar
3. The only way to use those abilities is to click on the tactic popup RIGHT at the second you summon them, they don't have a tactic screen under the main tactics window.
4. You can not save tactic set ups for them
5. They get desummoned everytime you enter or leave a building/area.

Add all these together and you have a highly annoying time on your hands.  You have to CONSTANTLY resummon them and reset their tactics, and god help you if you miss the tactic popup in the 2 secs it's there.  At the very least there needs to be a way to save tactic setups for them, spending 5 mins resetting everything, everytime you enter a building is pretty damn lame.

I never felt I needed the tactics screen for pets. I was able to manage them fine without it. But it would be nice to have.

Additionally, whenever I summon one, there is a big chance they will die for no apparent reason within moments of summoning one.

4 and 5 definitely annoyed me to no end, especially since you get stuck with the 60+second cooldown when changing maps.

They're not supposed to be able to use the abilities that are not already in their action bar. Using the tactics screen is actually an exploit.

Truely? ok, it's even more bugged than I thought then :P  Well assuming that ever gets patched and fixed, it would still be nice to be able to save a tactic load out for them,.

Yes this was mildly annoying, we need to be able to open up their tactics screen instead of relying on the 2 second tactics slot pop up, and all their abilities need to show up on the action bar, it would be much easier if we could just open a character talents sheet for them to assign talents and a tactics sheet that we can access as well,

other than that ranger spec is in my eyes the coolest and most useful spec for rogues - you can summon your own tank! im lovin the blight wolf by the way

I'm playing on the PC as well, are you saying your wolf summon has Dread howl, howl, shred, and Overpower all on your actionbar when you summon him?  He only has the armor reducing howl on mine.

Here's the worst one.... they steal your XP if they get the killing blow!

I hadn't noticed this, but I'm running a melee heavy party atm, 3 people using DW sweep at the same time?  Itty bitty Darkspawn pieces.  I am pretty much just using the wolf for his aoe stun and to overpower mages, so he dosen't get a lot of kills.  I'll check it out next time I play though.

It definitely happens, I'm using Ranger pets for my nightmare rogue solo game, and damn it all if that Wolf wasn't stealing 75% of my kills.

Monster kills aren't for leveling up anyway; Elfroot is. ;)

Ok, I just tested it out, you don't get the exp floaty above your pets head when they kill a target, you do infact get the exp for killing it though.

The zoning one is the most annoying, especially as it happens in some cutscenes too. Nothing quite like a boss encounter making you summon your pet again first thing. Or entering a room full of enemies that you know is full of enemies and having to summon your pet again first.

6. They don't seem to teleport along with the rest of the party in battles following cutscenes. And since some bosses tend to lock the room the pet can get locked outside. (ex. Broodmother).

I'm trying a dw weapon rouge with Ranger at level 7. Noticed that the pet stays back if you rush into melee combat. If you go ranged... he attacks your target. Preset tactics are default for a ranged rogue.

I tested that exact same thing for 5 kills in a row, with 0 total XP gain when my pet had killed each enemy..

Despite my general lack of faith in humanity, I'll do you the favor of assuming you competantly tested it too :P
Maybe it's an issue of the pet not always getting counted as a party member when it is summoned?  Also are you playing on the PC or console?

Also... I tested mine out using companion pets, maybe PC summoned ones are different. I don't have a high level rogue I can respec to test it out sadly.

For the most part, it's not such a big deal for me to manually set up tactics to make the Wolf use Overwhelm on enemies that cast or use ranged on my allies (after Charging them), but yeah.. most of all if anything was to be fixed, I just wish it would stay saved when it is re-summoned the next time. At least most maps last a little while, and for the most part, the pet won't get locked outside. Broodmother was a good example though.

To be honest, I think it is a bug that we can set up their tactics and that we aren't supposed to have access to all those 'super'-abilities on the Ranger pets. It's probably a programming shortcut they took. A fun fact, you can see them in the different UI screens if you have in example Leliana with Ranger spec with the tactic to summon it automatically in battle, during and after the attack on the camp. It'll even follow you around like a loyal pet once the fight is over :S --I also like teleporting directly to camp from a map where it was summoned, it'll die at the entrance of the camp, hehe. Revenge for making me do all that extra work, to make it that extra bit more useful.
