Also posted on FaceBook, and my fears not alleviated by ANYTHING anyone has posted:-

"I literally haven't been able to sleep for 4 hours now because of thinking about this DISASTROUS change to what would have been the greatest finale to the best RPG of all time.

The Comment "It is important to note that the system is entirely optional and just another way players can have control over your game experience – it is still possible to achieve the optimal, complete ending of the game in Mass Effect 3 through single-player alone" says it in a nutshell : If you don't play Co-op and MP, you'll find it virtually, and very possibly completely, impossible to finish the game on Insanity AND get all the Achievements.

Bioware You've just destroyed the BEST RPG on the XBOX, and I've just cancelled my pre-order for ME3 from Amazon.co.uk (which I ordered the very moment it appeared). I suggest everyone else who has pre-ordered and feels the same way about this brilliant game being utterly destroyed like this do the same. If I want to play co-op, I'll play MOH, BFBC2 or BF3 or any of the other FIRST person shooters. Ditto for MP where Halo Reach leaves everything else for dead. Third person Co-op and MP are simply stupid for an RPG like ME3 and a complete betrayal of your customers (I've bought every single piece of DLC, and had 4 different Shep characters completed and waiting for ME3 :( ).

One question, though I think I can guess the answer already: Do you get away with paying a lower royalty to Microsoft if you force people to play over XBL ( for which I have ALWAYS had Gold membership)?

One BITTERLY disappointed ex-customer and real fan of the franchise!!!! (who fully expects to be flamed by the few fanboys actually wanting this AWFUL change).

PLEASE RECONSIDER and launch Co-op and MP as a seperate game!

Unfortunately, I might have to agree with this and I don't even fully support multiplayer. It's a result of taking games way too seriously.

You know how sometimes you will read about a new game being developed, and that game has some new features that the company wants to try out? They sound really cool, and you get excited, and you have a grand vision (perhaps) of what it will be. Then, two months later, the reviews are in and they all talk about how those new features or functions just did not quite work out. That is what the pessimist in me is whispering right now.

Good grief. Nowhere did it say that Insanity would be impossible without resorting to MP. Quite the opposite, actually. If you were a "real fan" you'd wait until you had the game, try the MP, then decide if you like it. As for achievements, who gives a s***?

I have been an avid fan of BioWare ever since the first Baldur's Gate. My girlfriend and I both cancelled our ME3 preorders today and I just officially cancelled TOR. I'm going to wait for reviews and a drop in the game's retail price. I never tried a TES game before, but I hear they are good rpgs so I'm going to preorder Skyrim now.

If you are a BioWare fan that likes story, prepare to be disappointed.  Those games are walking simulators with disjointed quests.

I like story, but I also like lots of loot and exploration. Is exploration good?

hey, they closed the other thread with this questions but it's a question i'd still like answered. will we be able to do the co-op missions offline? like split screen? i remember when all the multi-player games were split screen and you could play them locally, now its only ever on live, meaning you have to have 2 consoles, two xbox live memberships, and two copies of the game, such a hassle.

also, if the co-op levels are only online, will it affect your me3 play through, or your friends play through? which one of us will be making any possible important decisions that could affect the main story?

the info we've been given is very vague, the missions are optional, and it is still possible to get a positive ending w/o them but how much do we miss out on for doing them/not doing them?

don't get me wrong, i'm warming to the idea of the coop levels and think they will be very fun, but you just dropped this huge new update on us and gave us very little info on how it will work. you're spoon feeding us something big but you haven't told us what it is we're putting in our mouths yet.

needless to say i look forwards to the announcement on Wednesday and I hope some of the questions can be answered.

http://stickskills.c...tails-revealed/

That should answer some questions but as for the offline idk. I REALLY hope we can play offline or at least with bots though. The wait for tommorw is unbearable lol

Yes. Yes Please. Very much please.

Allow offline bot matches for people who don't have access to steady internet etc. That way single players who wouldn't use it might be more tempted to give it a whirl and they can get their readiness all uppidy and going.

Agreed, and to be honest I find co-op features like this one to be more fun when playing single player anyways. lol call me weird but I personally dislike the idea of having someone (even if they are a friend) screwing around and rushing through the thing like its CoD, I prefer to just play at my own pace.(especially since Mass Effect is a Single Player game to begin with)

If they can do this for Co-Op, I will be more than pleased and send them an enourmous Awesome Smiley.

On the other hand, your position implies you know better than the developpers, including how the SP was and should have been designed, how the ressources were and should have been allocated, etc.

That post doesn't exactly strenghten your position. Unless of course you're intimately aware of the ME development process. In the end, they are the artists and they put the work in: you don't get to say how they do it or what goes in. Until the game comes out and you make a tally after watching the credits of approximately how many staff were "wasted" on the MP component and somehow divine what was left on the cutting room floor instead, your last arguments are hollow as well.

My position is that regardless of budget, regardless of resources, only so much can fit into a game.  You can make the biggest picinic you want, using as many  kitchens as you like.  But you only have one basket to put the food in.  What stays?  What goes?  I could care less if people would rather beat the game by mowing down waves of Cerberus with their buddies, if anything gets left out of single player,  one mission, one scene.  One line of frakking dialogue, in order to fit multiplayer into the game, it had a negative effect on the SP game.

My position is:   Unless multiplayer comes in a separate disk I can toss aside, or a separate DLC that I can ignore, it's not optional enough.

And I've yet to hear any arguements saying requiring Origin or modding restrictions can possibly be a good thing.

Wow infinitelogic! I can't believe it is possible for an entire franchise to be "DISASTROUS" because of an edition of a cool feature. Even though it is optional. Your so wise. Might as well go cancel my order just because of this. Come on man, seriously?

After reading many posts of various length and had some time to think, I have come to a conclusion on co-op in Mass Effect:

I don't give a sh*t.

Roll on the next piece of news please.

I wouldn't mind something like a Horde/Firefight mode, kind of like what they did in Arrival for ME2, when you're fighting all of the project workers until you're overwhelmed and throw in the towel.

So a "real fan" would just hand over their money despite misgivings?

I consider myself a "real fan" despite my complaints.  I'm willing to wait until after I see the Pulse episode tommorrow before making my decision.  But I am still incredibly disappointed with Bioware and will not be purchasing any more Mass Effect games after the trilogy.

Exaggeration or not, it does reflect badly on his attempts at "convincing" Bioware to withdraw on multiplayer. Well-reasoned arguments would at least appear more decent.

Misgivings should not stop you from playing a game series you love over a single, optional, game mode. That's just silly.

It's too late to withdraw anyway, but that doesn't stop people from being unhappy. Crap is crap, but I'll be happily playing my ME2, my Shepard's story ends with that game.
