What I said is that IF the single-player campaign has the same amount of time as ME2 did, THEN I'm fine with that. Maybe you missed the whole IF/THEN construction there. If the single-player campaign gets short shrift, then I will not be a happy camper. See that? There's another IF/THEN!

That being said, I also don't view co-op as the end of the world. There are plenty of games where multiplayer has enhanced my gaming experience like Portal 2 in which the co-op is, in my opinion, innovative and complements the main story. The single-player campaign was also strong. Meanwhile, you can go be irrational and cry in the corner and bemoan your fate or whatever it is you're doing in here.

Hey, believe what you want.

You should not be a happy camper now.

Sorry? Hmm, you know...maybe one day I'll let myself be brainwashed and swayed by the opinions of others who think I should feel exactly the way they do - right after I get myself an all-expenses-paid lobotomy. In the meantime, since I'm not an idiot who jumps to baselsss conclusions based on my personal biases, I'll continue to think for myself and wait to see exactly what the game is like based on reviews close to/after launch.

I also like multiplayer in general and have quite a few games with multi-player despite my propensity for playing mostly single--player games, so I don't necessarily view multi-player as some great evil.

That is where your opinion and mine differ.  I think Multiplayer ruins games and has a history of doing so.

Multiplayer traditionally does not look good for traditionally single player games.

Couple of questions if anyone's looking :)

First: for XBox, would both my spouse and I have to register respective copies of the game to play, or is our one copy enough? (or will it be downloaded/purchased separately from the main game?)

Second, will Galaxy at War be part of the Collecter's Edition?

Galaxy at War is part of all editions

You need to get yourself one of them "Bioware" tags so people aren't confused.

My wife just commented to me that "Galactic Readiness" sounds like something out of the Department of Homeland Security.

"Readiness" is a pretty standard bit of military jargon.

Right now I'd say some people's readiness for this is at a defcon 1

In ME1, Bioware Edmonton worked on SP.
In ME2, Bioware Edmonton worked on SP.
In ME3, Bioware Edmonton is working on SP.
Bioware Montreal is a new element, and they will work on the co-op side of it.

And BioWare San Francisco is likely working on the iOS and Facebook component.

BioWare San Francisco is workin on Facebook app if anything, but iOS thing is being handeled by Koolhaus Games.

1) This will mean fewer resources are used on the singleplayer campaign. Yes, I know that the Montreal studio is making the component, but those people could have been used to improve the singleplayer experience, never mind the fact that some of the people working there were from the original team.

Question: is "could have been" the same thing as "would have been"?

Nice sticky- I feel relieved in what seems to be confirmation that those that don't want to play multiplayer can completely ignore it and will still have a great single player game. I don't want to play multiplayer, but I am happy for those that do.

I'm actually okay with this, as it stands Bioware have came through. Let's hope it turns out well in practice.

Same amount of effort is going into ME3 as before, except... more.

I don't do this often...

But I was wrong. This MP sounds excellent now. An entire team devoted to making a MP game in addition to a SP game? Hell yeah.

I agree. It looks like I may end up eating my words.

This has never happened on the internet before. Today should be remembered by our ancestors.
Mark this on the calender, gentlemen.

Dev on Twitter said he was AT 30+ hours in his playthrough. I know he is probably being overly generous with 30+, but considering he said "at", that is pretty damn good.

The former, that the story can still cause an emotional response such that the SP was not "ruined".

Ah that makes more sense. I have to becareful because there are some BSN posters who overreact to things like this.

How does it matter? If EA wouldn't have impregnated this series with their greed, I'm sure those people would have gone to good use creating more missions, textures, sound files, and whatever else could have made you smile while playing.

Actually this is the first time this has happened on BSN.

Plus we all know the only reason why people are accepting this is due to being able to play a KROGAN!!!

So....this is how it ends.

I think I'm going to cry. Seriously.

We've gotten to the point where our ability to win is measured by a "readiness level" and you could completely screw up in the past 2 games and make up for it by playing some STUPID multiplayer mode.

Unbelievable.

I am split. First its there is no impact on the single player campaign but then the Galaxy at War mode allows you to raise the "Galactic readiness level" which impacts the single player campaign?

You're conflating two different contexts: effect of developing MP on SP and the gameplay effects of the MP mode on the SP mode.

I was merely confused b4, now im very confused.

One question answered in the FAQ was, paraphrased, "Did developing this feature have a detrimental effect on the development of the single-player experience?" The answer to that one was "No" (whether you believe that or not).  Another, entirely separate question answered was "Does MP have any  SP gameplay effects?" The answer to that one was "Yes."  You seem to have decided they were both answers to the same question.

I'm no longer excited about mass effect 3 and canceled both my ME (collector's edition) and my SWTOR preorders, as the only way I can vote is with my wallet and I'd rather give my money to someone else.

So is the equally weak assumption that this will work without ruining the game.

Again, I need to know exactlu how this affects single player in action, not just because some PR faq from the company was rushed out to quell insurrection....

Actually no. Bioware is a good game developer and has done multiplayer before. The assumption that it won't ruin the game is far more likely than the assumption that it will.
