I'm no longer excited about mass effect 3 and canceled both my ME (collector's edition) and my SWTOR preorders, as the only way I can vote is with my wallet and I'd rather give my money to someone else.

You cancelled SW:TOR - a multiplayer game - over the presence of multiplayer in ME3?

I canceled a bioware game as i have other MMO's that I can play that I'm more excited about and that i don't have to pay monthly fees for, becasue I don't want to give bioware, any division of the bioware, any more of my money.

Sorry? Hmm, you know...maybe one day I'll let myself be brainwashed and swayed by the opinions of others who think I should feel exactly the way they do - right after I get myself an all-expenses-paid lobotomy. In the meantime, since I'm not an idiot who jumps to baselsss conclusions based on my personal biases, I'll continue to think for myself and wait to see exactly what the game is like based on reviews close to/after launch.

I also like multiplayer in general and have quite a few games with multi-player despite my propensity for playing mostly single--player games, so I don't necessarily view multi-player as some great evil.

If only that could fit in a signature.

So is the "Galaxy at War" feature accessible in both single- and multi- player modes? Chris's post explaining the new features seems to suggest it. And if so, how would it work in SP?

We've gotten to the point where our ability to win is measured by a "readiness level" and you could completely screw up in the past 2 games and make up for it by playing some STUPID multiplayer mode.

Oh, please.  We were never not going to able to win, MP or no.

You could at least win with heavy casualties. Hey guess what guys all of your choices and progression in ME 1&2 overall  mean crap come play multiplayer!

meh... indifferent about this

what I do know however, is that Shepard will now have to share us (the gamers) with another custom alien character... and Shepard is jealous. After spending two games with us alone, he has to share us with someone else, and he doesn't like it, especially since this is his last game.

Shepard is sad.

Yer... like, it'll make you cry when the ending sucks because you didn't play co-op.

Why do people post without reading the FAQ?

I could ask you the same question.

The methods by which a player can succeed without co-op have yet to be defined, but if past games are any indication then it's going to mean either exploring 100 copy-pasted warehouses or scanning 100 planets for minerals.

GaW is going to imbalance the game, no two ways about it.

Now I see you haven't even played attention to ME3 info. In ME2 many N7 missions on uncharted worlds could be avoided to complete the game you just scanned crap. In ME3 there is no scanning nor a lot of UNC or N7 missions.
The decisions in the past game and actions in ME3 heavily affect the game. Playing the MP isn't necessary and the FAQ never stated how much it affects the game.

Read the FAQ and brush up on ME3 knowledge. Then come back to the thread.

I never said you had to do N7 missions in ME2, and I already knew everything else you just posted. Unfortunately I'm still missing the bit where I'm wrong and/or should give a rats ass wtf you think I should do.

Really?

Wow, jeweled.  I, uh, didn't expect that from you.

The mutiplayer's completely optional and sounds pretty unique in its implementation.

That is where your opinion and mine differ.  I think Multiplayer ruins games and has a history of doing so.

Multiplayer traditionally does not look good for traditionally single player games.

You can believe what you want, just don't try to foist your opinion on me and tell me what to think or how I should feel. And while we're at it, don't try to frame your opinions and feelings about multiplayer as some sort of incontrovertible fact or proof that the game's single-player experience will be deficient. I certainly don't claim that every game benefits from multiplayer or that it's always done well - just that it can add to the experience when it is done well.

That is a lot of "if" there.

Proof usually shows multiplayer takes away from single player.  But believe what you want as well.

I think I'd like to repeat something.

"it is still possible to achieve the optimal, complete ending of the game in Mass Effect 3 through single-player alone."

*ahem*

That's all for now.

Do characters level up in co-op multiplayer? What is the progression system?

  • Character progression, weapon upgrading and leveling up is present in co-op. We’ll release more information on this topic in the months leading up to launch.

FFS, typical EA game.

Well, the leveling thing is actually typical of, you know, an ME game too.

Smells like Call of Duty to me.

[*]It is unfortunately. This what Mass Effect has been reduced to.

My braaaaaain. It huuuuuuurts. Stop it! :pinched:

The bestie and I now have plans the weekend of March 9-11.

Provided, of course, they do this right.

Thanks for clearing some things up, Chris. Glad to hear it won't affect the single player negatively.

So the absence of character progression in MP would somehow be more "ME-like"? Or is this a "heads it sucks, tails it sucks" thing?

If you actually have a pre-order, you are so still buying it. Time will pass, you'll stop thinking that a video game company has committed an offense similar to your wife cheating on you with your brother, and you won't be able to muster the indignation to actually cancel it.

Ok seriously, Darkeus if you hate BioWare so much now just because they made an optional festure that you don't like, why are you still posting here? If you aren't going to buy the bloody game, then why not find something better to do with your time? I'm certainly sick of your negativity, but I can't speak for everyone else.

And???

I am not so sure it is as optional as they say and I am concerned because I am a fan of BioWare and I am seeing a bad thing here.  As is my right.

So who cares what you are sick of??

Whad? Has the defintion of optional changed in the past ten minutes. Why wasn't I informed about this?

I just have three points to make...

1. What is the point of wasting resources to implement a feature a very small number of people will actually use?

2. What is the point of wasting resources to implement a multiplayer feature in a single player narrative driven game?

(Don't worry Chris, I already know it was an EA mandate so they can push the Online Pass, otherwise known as Used Game DRM.)

3. So...would a couple of specific people like to tell me how I don't know what I'm talking about again?

Then don't play it. One of the best things abotu teh 4 player co-op multiplay is that it is optional. If you liek it, great. Play and enjoy it. If you (like me) are a single player game who plays games liek ME3 for the story, don't play the MP and concentrate on the single player experience.

This is all I needed to hear. Co-op is just a welcome addition should I choose to try it.

Hey Chris I'm wondering, will playing Co-Op and getting my "readiness leval" up sort of ruin the single player experience if I'd been preparing in Mass Effect 1/2 for the best ending? I replayed them both with the best decisions and whatnot, but now it seems like if I play Co-op in Mass Effect 3 and get the "readiness leval" maxed out its a cheap way to defeat the Reapers....?

Personally i think the co-op missions will influence the SP game in a fairly minute way, Like fighting to take possession of resources in a war zone or something like that.

So you can fight co-op on planet X and get some resources or Shep can just launch a probe on some planet and get them that way - i would think that resources is part of GR.

Actually it smells like aspects of RPGs leveling system. Many modern multiplayer games have aspects akin to that. It isn't something new.
[*]

But Call of Duty was the FPS that started this trend.

So? CoD has always been a good FPS. It may be a bit repetative playing the same game with some improvements but all in all it is a solid shooter and the campaign is good enough to keep you interested until the end. I'm not saying ME3 MP should be like it but what COD did wasn't necessarily anything bad.

So... you are disappointed that in addition to a full uncompromised SP campaign you are getting a relevant and meaningful MP mode which is entirely up to you to play it or not. Riiiight...can totally see the logic in that.:pinched:

is it uncompromiced really.  with resources devoted to developing and entirely DIFFERENT campaign that CAN nulify some bad decisions, that is if you play multiplayer of course and thus rendering someof the choices nuland void.  not to mention - resources.  they are not unlimited. and this sounds like a major understaking.

meh, I'mdone raging.  I have stated my opinion, bioware, if they read it(and mynotes onmy canceled order)  will know exactly what made me give up on them.  I'm done.
