Wait, am I reading this right? The "galactic readiness" thing in the SP campaign will be determined by some MP "Galaxy at War" feature?
(goes back and reads OP again)
I *did* read it right! Holy crap, BW, way to fook it right up. This will be interesting...

I'll be honest. If single player is still great and as long as it is in ME2, and they have all this extra stuff on top of that...they're going to make Infinity Ward look like a bunch of chumps.
Infinity Ward IS a bunch of chumps. They keep churning out a game that's literally the same as the previous one, and have the nerve to name it something else. They promised the world they'd deliver a ground-breaking game as MW2, and man did that game blow. Anyone remember the first two months of that game? Let alone the entire year that the game was out for where they did nothing to patch the 90,000 glitches and hacks? What a terrible game....So glad I haven't bought a call of duty game since.

That is an accurate summary of what he said. Readiness is increased by MP, but you can still get the optimal outcome without MP.
And there are alternative means to increase readiness, so no, not an accurate summary at all, but rather your supposition.

But no offline co op makes me a sad kingslayer.
...Other than that I think it sounds really promising. I stand by my initial opinion - that this seems like something that deserved it's own spin off game post ME3 - but the concept is really impressive. In fact the idea behind it actually reinforces my thinking that this would have made a great stand alone title given more development time, all those elements you mention could have been expanded into something even more epic in scope, and I can't help but worry at how polished it will be (new team etc.)
How long has it been on the cards? Since the start? If it's been in development alongside for a long while then that makes me more optimistic.
Anyway, enough of the pessimism. I look foraward to seeing what Team Montreal has come up with for us, and I really hope they pull off what seems to be a very ambitious addition to the franchise.
The custom characters are a great touch, although I do kinda hope there are some cameos from ME characters who don't get much of a look in in single player (where appropriate).
Ultimately this will definitely have me considering subbing to xbox live for the first time in ages, so kudos.

So using the co-op affect the single-player campaign? Interesting. I really hope that you don't need to use it to get the "best ending", though :<
Well, the OP seems pretty clear that it won't be required - merely a new optional way of getting the "best ending". I wouldn't be surprised if there are some little extras you only get if you do a bunch of co op stuff though. >.>

Not entirely. The MP can affect the readiness, but so do things in SP and other Galaxy at War unannounced systems (which I'm assuming are also SP).
Unannounced, which means they haven't figured out how the crap to make this **** work in SP yet.

1) Another team took care of this so no resources were lost(though I honestly doubt that, since that money to that team, could've gone to the single player team)
2) It's optional, and you can get optimal results from single player alone.
I still think this is a retarded thing to do at the conclusion of Shepards story, but atleast it wasnt flipping the finger on the players

What if I don’t like multiplayer – will my experience be negatively impacted?
- Mass Effect 3 is a complete, standalone game that will deliver a satisfying story experience, even if you choose not to try multiplayer. The Mass Effect 3: Galaxy at War system and all of the individual components are meant to complement that amazing game and can be enjoyed on their own or as part of the Galaxy at War experience.
I still don't like it. I'm still royally angry that this was hidden from us for so long. I'm still concerned that this will hurt the single player campaign. You know "Shepard's story" that this trilogy was supposed to be? But this part at least helps a little. I won't be entirely screwed for not bowing to the MP gods.

Bioware has done the impossible.
BSN: I'm pissed off. Bioware is nothing but a bunch of liars and money grabbing Candians.
Bioware Dev: In the next game you get to play a Krogan.
BSN: I...really? OMG I love you so much I'll never get pissed again.
Bioware Dev: Of course not <_<

Thanks for the info Chris, hopefully it will calm some people down.
I would love to take all the credit, but Jesse Houston adn Nick Clifford worked hard to get this ready once we had the info go public a tad earlier than we thought.
Thanks guys.
I never doubted this final chapter would amazing, and this will just be another tasty treat to snack on for those that care to sample. Can't wait for March!
I hope the board freakouts didn't ruin your family's holiday. Thanks for this info.

Are you required to have 4 players? Or can you play with 2 or 3?
Or on your own, for that matter.
That is what I want to know. I can get 3. Beyond that, I have to play with strangers. And it is established science that gamers of my age do not like (on average) playing with strangers.

So, getting an optimal outcome will be harder if I don't play MP and I don't want to play MP. It is my choice not to play, but doing so will gimp me.
Better be a brilliant SP campaign.
Read the OP again.
I did. That is an accurate summary of what he said. Readiness is increased by MP, but you can still get the optimal outcome without MP.
ie. MP makes getting the optimal outcome easier. Not playing MP will make it harder.
I will also suggest that game outcomes may well be balanced on the assumption you will be getting readiness points from MP (if they aren't that causes its own problems for people playing MP.)
I get that many people are happy about this. Fine, I am happy for all of you. I do not like this, however. It is not a deal-breaker for me, but after DA2, Bioware's "auto pre-order" status is on shaky ground with me. I do not like having MP linked to my SP experience, and yes, it is now linked. The game will be harder for those of us who choose not to play MP.
We'll see.
I think you are reading into that too far. I think the SP's standalone victory conditions were not changed to punish you for not playing MP. I think it was made easier for those who chose that route, they are two distinct things, but as you said, we shall see.
