Other ways to fill your galactic readiness? Jesus, please don't integrate Facebook into Mass Effect 3, please.

Hypothetical situation, what if someone has no access to the internet but want's to play ME 3? How would that work?

Galactic readiness sounds like a really boring mechanic - rather than interesting decisions with varied consequences, you'll get a bonus to readiness for making the "right" choice and for ticking the boxes by completing all the quests.

And the "Galaxy at War" stuff sounds like nothing more than a way of shoehorning marketing into the game. No doubt you'll get readiness for playing facebook games, drinking Doctor Pepper and buying DLC.

It got postponed for a few months. Big deal. People in the real world have to wait for things all the damn time. It's a game not a cancer operation, so do try to have some perspective on the matter. My god some of you are ungrateful.

I stil don't understand how the multiplayer affects the main game, since the SP apparently can be done without playing MP. Is it harder if you don't play MP? Easier if you do? What?

Likely: winning some battle/territory will be mentioned in the single player campaign and help gyou persuade someone to fight/stay focused who is distracted/needing more convincing...something along thos lines - which is completely awesome to me.

The entire way they've implemented coop so far is the most unique/perfect fit for the ME universe, especially considering this is a galactic war...a single player game alone would not touch the level of epic experiencing different fronts of the war with others can..while simultaneously contributing to Shepard's main quest!

If anything, the coop not only refrains from taking away from the single player, it makes it better. Even though I don't have 4 xbox live friends I like to play with, I would absolutely try to find some to experience this, this is not an epic war conclusion that I would want to experience alone, nor as just a human.

I just hope space combat will come into play in the Galaxy at War part of the game, since it may not in the main game...but in any case, it's not Shepard's story I care about, honestly it's all pretty basic to me, I just like the universe itself, experiencing the cool world they've created, and this is the biggest thing they've ever been bold enough to do to make that experience much more expansive and fitting.

So thank you, Bioware, this is perfect. Now add space combat. ;)

The Reapers are attacking everybody, how is a multi-racial squad unrealistic? My only concern is about the possible exclusion of female aliens.

Or worse, they cover them up in armor so you can barely see them properly.

I'd be ok with that, actually. So long as there are female voice-actors. It'd be silly if they weren't wearing a bunch of armour in a combat situation.

I don't know about this. If they didn't think this was a great idea, why did they not add MP in the first and second game?
Nah, I have my doubts.

Probably because they could not pull it off at the time.  They cut a lot of stuff in the earlier games because they could not do it well.

Very true. But still, I do not like when they're messing with my games. It gives me a certain feel of... I don't know. Like I will be sitting with my top-hat and monocels whilst playing the game going "Hmm... Aahh... Ohh... Interesting".

Well you see, Bioware is marketing toward people who enjoy products with a greater amount of functionality rather than less, based off of arbitrary and irrational hate rather than any empirical reason that directly proves that the added functions diminish the quality of the product.

"it is still possible to achieve the optimal, complete ending of the game in Mass Effect 3 through single-player alone"

So you can still do it..BUT you will be heavily punished along the way if you choose to play the game as it should be played -in Singleplayer mode-. Seems like a big F*** YOU from Bioware to all those wanting their gaming experience to be unsullied by the disease that is multiplayer tack-ons.

Seems like a big "I CAN'T READ" from Heliosas.

You're not going to be heavily punished.  Try to think of it this way, if this multiplayer and readiness meter existed in ME2, you'd be able to skip a few more loyalty missions than usual and still get everyone to survive the Suicide Mission.  On my first playthrough, I probably wouldn't have bothered with it.  On subsequent playthroughs, though, I sure as hell would have employed any means necessary to avoid the boring loyalty missions (Samara & Thane).

More like it's designed to accommodate people who climbed on at the third game. Your pathetic tunnel vision is extremely obvious, as what they said could hardly be indicative of the fantasy land you have just come up with.

The anti-multiplayer crowd is overly-dramatic, true. But I don't think "gratitude" needs to enter into it. Bioware makes products which I enjoy, typically at a $60 expense. I'm not grateful to Bioware for making games that I like any more than I'm grateful to Christopher Nolan or Quentin Tarantino for making films that I enjoy. We're each performing a service.

Just to clarify, Chris:

By offering co-op over XBoxLIVE, etc... I assume that only one player will be able to play per console, in order to track level-up, etc... In other words, my son won't be able to play co-op on the same console with me; he'll have to play on a separate console, logged-in with his own account, right?

hmm, so i can ignore the mp and achive the optimal ending.... and none of the sp characters is in the mp.... im for it
and the fact that the original me team is focused on the single player section and a newly formed team for the mp section makes me calm down...
as for the mp it sounds fun since you play as diffrent caracters in remote battles in the same war as the singleplayer and your sucsess there helps in shepard campaign...
even so i will still focus in the singleplayer to get the optimal ending and try the mp to boost the outcome

And for goodness sake, YOU LOSE NOTHING from not playing the coop - except what's likely to be a great experience you can't get from single player. So it's no F-You to any closed-minded gamer who can't get over the fact that this is a great idea - just play the damn game like you want to, which...is the point. The whole damn point. Sorry you have more options to do so now.

If you have no access to the internet then you probably have bigger problems than experiencing a game mode in your $60 game, brah. Why not use that money and get a cable/fiber optic connection? Or are you... are you going to play this on your laptop???

I'm still not seeing the problem. Multiplayer simply provides an alternative method for players to collect resources, which will allow them to obtain the best possible ending. This can still be achieved by playing the single player only.

Casey Hudson , Twitter.
"The multiplayer seems to avoid exactly what everyone was afraid of: ruining the core single player experience.”
Now that Casey said it, I have no problem with this anymore. (Maybe a bit, but still, I'll trust Casey)

I'm not exaggerating when I say that everything mentioned in the OP has made me more excited for ME3. In particular the concept of Galaxy at War and the idea of playing as other species have ramped up my anticipation to biblical proportions. Ever since hearing about ME way back in 2005 I've been waiting for the all-out war that will come from the Reapers' invasion, and I've always felt that ME's focus on squad combat would be ideal for some kind of co-op. It seems ME3 will fufil both wishes.

It seems that Bioware may well be able to make a MP mode that doesn't impact the SP and in fact adds to the experience of ME3.

I wish a different system then the "galactic readiness" one could be used. One all-out assault on the Reapers is a stupid idea.

Although I support the co-op itself.
