Other ways to fill your galactic readiness? Jesus, please don't integrate Facebook into Mass Effect 3, please.

Hypothetical situation, what if someone has no access to the internet but want's to play ME 3? How would that work?

If you have no access to the internet then you probably have bigger problems than experiencing a game mode in your $60 game, brah. Why not use that money and get a cable/fiber optic connection? Or are you... are you going to play this on your laptop???

Some of us have been playing ME on Xbox from the beginning...and refuse to pay the danegeld to Microsoft. This was about the only way I would've found multiplayer acceptable in ME...unless there's no couch co-op. Ah well, it's a bad idea anyway, made almost unfathomably worse by integrating it into the single-player campaign (and don't give me that "optional" crap, it impacts the war).

Well seems a silly experiment to me but hey ho i won't play it. I'll have to see if single player game lives up to expectations & express my criticism if it doesn't.

The biggest worry from this announcement for me is this 'Galactic readiness level'. It sounds rather cheesy and linear. Hopefully once they explain it more it will turn out to be a lot more dynamic & fluid.

Success in multi-player will have a direct impact on the outcome of the single player campaign

I don't like this part, otherwise it sounds fun.

Yeah, that's what I want to know!

Seems like the perfect compromise... Flocks of MP'ers can form their own bunny-hopping joy divisions while we SP zealots can enjoy not missing out on content OR compromising our escapist fantansies by indulging 'aghskrys1234's' incessant demands for public acknowledgment.

Well hopefully you can get just as ready in ME3 single player as the "boost" you can get from the multi-player aspect. Otherwise a few years after this game has come out it would be almost impossible to get a "perfect" run once the community has moved onto the next game franchise.

Oh and i think people are complaining that there are 4 people in that squad.
And that's a retcon since in ME1&2 there can only be 3 people.

3 people in Shepard's Squad.

Since he's not in the Co-op, it's not a retcon of anything.

Raising things like manpower to fight the Reapers was something I thought was going to be in the storyline itself, so is this multiplayer going to dilute the power behind a choice presented to a player in the SP campain? Either you can ****** off the Krogan and they'll magicaly appear at the end of the game because MP has provided you with a high manpower bar, or there is going to be a plot detail that comes into play that SP players are going to miss out on. As someone who likes to explore every possible avenue in Bioware games, but detests multiplayer with a fiery passion, the latter possibility frightens me.

I`ll keep it simple. ME is awesome as a single player game. As long as the Co-op Doesnt take away fromthat like it looks it will do then i`m all for it. Also me and my buddies are looking forward to playing ME together. But like i said. SINGLE PLAYER is the critical focus so i`m looking forward to it most of all.

The way I see it "optimal" means the best possible ending with everyone saved no loss of planets or companions, it does not cover everything that has come before and all other gameplay aspects prior to the ending. That is the default "optimal" for most people, maybe even all people other than those grasping at straws making assumptions when I am asking for facts. Optimal means best and does not cover all non optimal or even touch on the subject of other features such as dialogue, cinematics (non ending) or missions, story based gameplay that is not part of the ending or even the non optimal endings given there will be vast amount of different endings optimal is merely one of those many. I want to know if this MP has (any) effect on any of those things I just mentioned and optimal ending phrase does not cover those aspects.

quote]

Of course its just a guess, but I'm assuming the word "optimal" means the highest scoring level, i.e. level 30 in ME2 or level 60 in ME1.  As I mentioned earlier, this is disturbing b/c if I'm right, that means ME3 will be just as easy as ME2 to reach the top or "optimal" level.  That diminishes replayability.

Another question, would it make sense to play the co-op before jumping straight into the SP campaign? How else would you up your "Galactic Readiness"? Play a bit of SP, when you reach a certain point, jump into MP?

I'm confused? :S

Well, I've never been a supporter of Multiplayer for the ME series. However, if it's really something optional, and won't in any way affect the single player core of the game...then why not? I know several people hate this idea, and I understand that, but there are some that are interested. So I don't see the problem of integrating an option into the game that would allow multiple people to experience Mass Effect together. I still think it's somewhat pointless to put in the last game of the series, and I'm still worried that it may change the single player experience in some way.,..but if it really doesn't, if it truly is completely optional..and since I'll be playing it on PC anyway, I don't have a problem.

I have been going through this thread and looking online for a while and I could not find anyone who knows if the co-op will have a Split Screen Option, which is essential for me, as most of my friends do not have an Xbox and we usually play co-op campgains Split Screen. I mean, that's why I bought a console, the social gaming element is way stronger =]
So I don't know if anyone at the development team will take not of this, but from a short google search online, it seems I'm not the only one who wants to play his games split screen.
Please try and put the feature in, I know most game devs do not like to do this sort of thing as it requires them to have a graphically downgraded version of the game for the split screen, in order not to fry the xbox's graphics chip, but not putting a Split Screen option kind of limits the ability of a large group of people to enjoy the extra content.
If anyone shares my feelings towards this issue, please let everyone know =]

Hi Everyone

Today BioWare and the Mass Effect 3 team are very pleased to announce 4 player co-op multiplayer missions and the Mass Effect 3: Galaxy at War system for Mass Effect 3 on the PC, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

4 player co-op multiplayer

Join your friends in the all-out galactic war to take Earth back. The universe of Mass Effect expands with the addition of new co-op multiplayer missions, playable over Xbox Live, PSN and PC internet. Players can choose from a variety of classes and races, form an elite Special Forces squad, and combine their weapons, powers and abilities to devastating effect as they fight together to liberate key territories from enemy control. Success in multi-player will have a direct impact on the outcome of the single player campaign, giving players an alternative method of achieving ultimate victory against the greatest threat mankind – and the entire galaxy – has ever faced.

Mass Effect 3: Galaxy at War

As a bonus to the campaign, BioWare is introducing the Mass Effect 3: Galaxy at War system, a new way for players to manage and experience the galactic war from multiple fronts, including a new 4-player co-op mode. The key to saving the galaxy is the “Galactic Readiness” level, measured by Commander Shepard’s ability to apply
every possible asset – people, weapons, resources, armies, fleets – in the final battle against the Reapers. Players can impact their game’s Galactic Readiness level in multiple ways via the Mass Effect 3: Galaxy at War system, including multiplayer. Other platforms and interfaces will be announced in the coming months. It is important to note that the system is entirely optional and just another way players can have control over your game experience – it is still possible to achieve the optimal, complete ending of the game in Mass Effect 3 through single-player alone.

Hmm now that sounds pretty awesome, course I know we'll still have some on here to ****, a question that wasn't in the FAQ, will you be able to do the Co-op with AI players? And Split Screen? Or will all of this be Online only play?

Still sound pretty damn neat over all, good job bioware.

But thats the thing what we only know so far is... They used the word optional but they also said it will have an effect in the single player story. Only they haven't actually explained how it will impact. Whether it will impact the game in prior to ending diagloue or cinematics or story or interactions, quest/missions or whether just means you get more money or more minerals.. We don't know what effect they said it will have on single player.

You know, I don't know why there has to be this division between single and multi-player subscribers. There is a very simple solution that seems to be consistently overlooked by virtually every developer throughout the past decade - Bots!!!

I've played countless multi-player 'training' scenarios designed to provide the player with a crash course in how to play the associated game prior to unleashing you into the frenetic world of MP combat. Invariably, some developer's go to the effort of providing the player with AI controlled companions to provide a some degree of continuity and allow the player to become accustomed to multiplayer controls.

I can see absolutely no reason why such a practical implementation can't be included with EVERY multiplayer game. If a publisher wants to appeal to the broadest possible consumer base, then surely this would be the ultimate solution. Multiplayer fanatics can have their cake and eat it and Sociopathic Solo'ers can have theirs too. I don't care if the bots are relatively stupid... I just want to experience the content that MP'ers do without the baggage of social interaction.

It's not a case of all or nothing... there is a compromise staring us all straight in the face!

multiplayer would be ok IF it was seperate and doesnt interfere in any way with the singleplayer gameplay or story. so DONT shorten the singleplayer to make room for it, DONT add stupid multiplayer designed bits in the singleplayer.
the addition of multiplayer could ruin this great singleplayer story based game, just look at all the new resi evil games now multiplayer changed that, its rubbish now.

so bioware for gods sake do NOT compromise what this game is, a brilliant emersive singleplayer experience were you shape your epic story over many games, leading to the most epic heartpounding conclusion ever. multiplayer could ruin this DONT LET IT.
