My question is, can I play the the coop without affecting my single player? Is the effect only positive? Is it significantly easier to get a good ending if I do all the other crap, including coop? I'm just really wary about the coop-single connection thing. If not done very carefully it has the potential to really ****** me off.

I laugh at anyone who cancels their preorder over this. I'm sorry, but how stupid and ignorant can you be?

And how arrogant are you to think that they are ignorant for choosing to change their minds on what they spend their money on for whatever reason they deem applicable. Free will and freedom of choice.

I don't question their choice for doing so.  I question their reason for doing so.  Multiplayer has been said to be entirely optional feature.  And yet for some reason I still see someone complaining that they're making it a requirement for the best ending, when it has been specifically stated that it is not.

While I think it is worth holding off rash judgements until tomorrow when more information is given it is still upto them what they choose to do. I personally will be waiting till tomorrow before deciding my actions dependant on details given to us. Optional and optimal ending does not address my concerns at all. Almost everything in life is generally optional but will still have an affect on something else. Optimal ending does not explain what I need to know before buy.

I however will probably buy regardless because it's the end of the trilogy and I suspect that is why they put in now because risk of losing sales is much lower given demand for finishing the story. If this was put in a new story and not part of the end of trilogy it may have had bigger risk which is why they chose now to do it.

Like everything I buy I tally up the pros and cons and at the moment ME3 does have quite a few cons but is outweighed right now by pros, for others if this is a con and tips that balance it is fair for them to choose to not invest.

Thus far ME3 is lacking in cons completely for me. Nothing but pros and one very big "currently ambiguous" depending on where this goes.

"it is still possible to achieve the optimal, complete ending of the game in Mass Effect 3 through single-player alone." That's all i needed to know.

What I am more worried is that if you choose to play the MP that your SP will be easily influenced to the positive side. I don't want to play an evening MP and almost automatically get the perfect SP ending.

I wouldn't mind if by playing MP you get resources (can be actual resources or weapons for troops or whatever you have to manage in ME3) instead of planet mining that you can choose to spend in SP on your weapon upgrades or on something similar to ME2's ship upgrades that actually influence the story.

So in short, I want the option to choose if MP influences my SP. Hope to hear more on that tomorrow.

I'd like to have a simple toggle switch that goes along the lines of "Do you want your efforts in MP to influence the war effort in the SP campaign? Y/N"

@Dragonloordz I never said they can't spend their money how they like, ffs. It's just extremely ignorant in my opinion to cancel your preorder for a game because despite being told differently you still think multiplayer is mandatory when it gives no advantage to Shepard that can't be gained in singleplayer. And even if it was as bad as people feared, you think the whole game is ruined because there's one mode you don't like (a mode which, in being created, took zero resources from the singleplayer game)? I find that beyond stupid. If you can't deal with that, fine, don't buy ME3. You'd only be missing out.

I find it funny that Bioware implements a multiplayer that fits into the universe, is stand-alone from the campaign apart from giving a boost to areas we do not know yet, and is more than just a second player tacked on the existing SP content (which is the perfect way to add a MP experience imo), and yet people still shed tears of drama and talk about cancelling their pre-orders. Other people will be able to play multiplayer, is this really that big of deal? Why does it make some angry? I just can't understand. Don't friggin play it if you don't want to.

To be honest, this actually doesn't sound too bad after all. I do like good co-op and if it doesn't hurt SP, bring it on.

I still plan on getting it.  Even if the multiplayer turns out to be a massive con for me I will still get it because I am not required to play it to get the full enjoyment of the game.  You're right, it is their choice to decide whether they want to cancel their preorder or not, but it's also my choice to condemn their reasons for doing so, and I see no point in not doing so.  To me their response and reasons are simply a paranoid knee-jerk reaction.

Haven't you heard? If I can't have fun with this game, then no one else can have fun and enjoy it either.

I can see the future of the people claiming to cancel their pre-order...

It's going to look something like this...

So, the co-op thing is like a standalone with zero influence in SP?

Read it again, he said play coop without affecting single player not playing single player mode not affecting coop.

He is right. The coop does affect the single player if you play it.

But we also don't know if you CAN play co-op and not have it affect singleplayer, right?

For instance, let's say I just want to roll co-op with my buddies but I have no intention of having it affect singleplayer, we do not know if that is an option yet.

Although I've always been somewhat reluctant on the idea of multiplayer, this feels right. Like chris put in the OP, this doesn't compromise the ME experience itself, and people have been asking this for a while - even if it's not unanimous. I give this a thumbs up. It also doesn't consume an exorbitant amount of development time either(at least relative to a versus multiplayer).

That we honestly do not know as factual, however others have been reading between the lines and making the assumption that this is not the case. This is what my concern is and why I am waiting for details about what the actual affects in are of this "readiness" relating to gameplay elements such as dialogue, missions and cinematics etc in the single player campaign. We do not know what 'readiness' as of yet means so people should refrain from saying has no effect yet until we do know as facts/details.

@IronSabbath88 Exactly, we don't know yet. More negative assumptions from the fans. My favourite.

No we don't yet. I hope that it there is an option to have it affect SP or not. Hopefully, we will get more news tomorrow or during the week. AFAIK, they want to release a Bioware Puls episode about it.
