I think there are quite a few puzzle pieces (the dark matter stuff Tali was involved in, for instance, and stuff we learned from the Collector base/sovvie's corpse) that'll come together to level the playing field significantly, enough that a united galaxy with a crazy enough plan might stand a non-zero chance of winning against the reapers, and Shep is just the man/woman to put such a union and plan together

I think they'll all be forced to make facebook accounts and spend too much time on their "farms" to bother invading any further :D

Whatever happens, I don't want to see deus ex machina ending. For the entire series we have witnessed Shepard struggle, sweat, and overcome each obstacle placed in his path. It has been Shepard's will fortified by an indomitable drive that has catapulted Shepard to being the only effective fighter against the coming storm.

If BioWare abandons that approach for a deus ex machina ending, it will mean that the writers have run out of ideas and punted. Frankly, ever since the first mention of the Volus billionaire searching for the defenders from the machine devils on that out of the way planet, I have worried that this was what the writers had in mind.

In my mind, what makes humanity unique is our determination and our vision as a species. Throughout history there are countless examples of human beings accomplishing what was once thought to be impossible. The will of a man like Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, or Neil Armstrong pushed the limits of what their fellows believed was impossible and changed the world as a result.

Combine that will with the strategic long view of the Asari, the scientific knowledge of the Salarians, the technical expertise of the Quarians, and the tactical acumen of the Turians and it becomes possible to stand against the Reapers. Each race bringing an essential element to the battle that will prove crucial in creating an effective response.

In essence, I am saying that it is unity that will enable the galaxy to stand against the extermination brought by the Reapers. Old fears and prejudices have to be put away and forgotten, trust must be built, and alliances forged. I truly believe that this will be the only way that we are going to be able to save as many lives as we can. Anything less will only result in unnecessary death.

This is why Cerberus and TIM's disinformation about Shepard has essentially poisoned the well and makes Shepard's job that much more difficult. The result of this manipulation will be worlds which will be transformed into charnel houses for the races that once occupied them. It may even be that such will turn out to be the fate of the Earth. It doesn't matter.

All that matters is that the galaxy stands united to face this threat because that is the only way that any of us will survive. At least, that's how I see it.

Or this:

"What shall we do with the f****ing Reapers,
What shall we do with the f****ing Reapers,
What shall we do with tha f****ing Reapers,
Early-aye in the morning?

Put them in the long boat and tip it over,
Shave their bellies with a rusty razor,
Put them in the bed with Anderson´s daughter,
Take them and shake them and try to brake them!

Way hay and up she rises
Way hay and up she rises
Way hay and up she rises
Earl-aye in the morning!..."

And so on...

We'll flip them over and strike their weak points for Massive damage. Simple as that.

Lock them out of the Mass Relay network. Kill them in smaller groups in isolated star systems. Use their OWN tactics against them. Easy peasy.

I amend my previous statement. The trailers show Shepard fighting Reapers with turrets. Turrets are their weakness. It will be turrets.

We all go to Madagascar and close the ports. Soon the reapers will become bored with waiting and then log out of the galaxy.

Yeah, that scene in the trailer seriously has me worried. I mean, what the hell, Shepard is trying to hurt a Reaper with a turret? If that has any effect on them, I wouldn't be able to keep up my suspension of disbelief. Such an attack would probably not even damage a frigate, let alone a ship like Sovereign, who tanked the combined firepower of the Citadel defense forces and a human fleet without breaking a sweat until Shepard took down his shields...somehow (I still don't really get why his shields collapsed due to Saren dying, but whatever).
I was already unhappy with the Reaper baby in ME2 being taken down by handgun fire, but hey, that thing wasn't finished and was lacking all its armor. It was probably really squishy. But this would be too much. It'd be akin to an aircraft carrier being sunk with pistol fire.

Garrus reveals what he was "calibrating" in Mass Effect 2, and what he was SECRETLY "calibrating" in Mass Effect 1 -- you didn't hear about it because it was done SECRETLY. Garrus built a massive Gundam-like vessel for Shepard and crew, as well as every single individual Shepard helped out in the series (this will differ upon the choices players made in ME1 & ME2), rides in to combat the Reaper threat. The final battle will have some Japanese song playing in the background, A LOT of screaming and talk about justice/not being powerless/friendship, eventually ending with the Gundam-like vessel narrowly defeating Harbinger.

All the other Reapers will all of a sudden become much much weaker with the destruction of Harbinger, in turn being destroyed 1 by 1 -- thus ending the Galactic War, and Commander Shepard's Mass Effect story.

i think that we should find a second citadel in ME3, most likely the one that the reapers would have used to link to the main citadel relay in the first ME.

Well, there were some talks about dark energy and suns aging faster in ME2 (Tali's missions), so who knows, maybe in the end the quarians or the geth will help humanity turn Sol into a Supernova and the Reapers into dust. After the evacuation from Earth and whatever colonists and refugees are in other places, I think humanity would survive.
