Gongon, I just read the Editors report on IGN on MP and that's pretty much sums up their opinions. Notwithstanding, one thing that scared me was their suggestion that MP would be used to collect resources to be used in the SP campaign, in lieu of scanning and Mako-ing. That would be horrible for those of us that don't have internet.

Just goes to show that you truly cannot spell ignorant without IGN.
I cant believe people are completely ignoring that it is an ALTERNATIVE method of getting the same level of galactic readiness. Other, more knowledgeable websites have already confirmed that the resources you will be acquiring, are in the form of weapons and troops, similar to what you did in DA:O.

Seriously, spend as much time reading the official FAQ as you do reading the crap that IGN pumps out, and you will stop worrying.

You know this makes a more interesting narrative than the truth Bogsnot.

One would assume we're fighting for everyone, right? I mean... it's the whole of galactic civilization vs the Reapers; I don't think it matters much if you "work for" the Salarian Special Tasks Groups, the Asari Commandos, or the Systems Alliance.

Q) Will Origin be required for PC owners to install and/or run the game, either SP or Co-op? IsaacShep
A) According to the ME3 EULA on Amazon, yes, it is required for installation. Link (PDF) Found by N0-Future

This is a deeply regrettable decision, as it means that I will never get to play this game - even though I have looked forward to its release for ages now. It is a matter principle for me not to pay for having malware installed on my system and this is what Origin is if you strip away the sales fluff around it.

My only hope now is that this (IMHO of course) arrogant, hostile and isolating course taken by your partner EA will be reversed. If it is not, I am another lost customer - which I know won't even show up in your statistics. But I would have hoped that you in Bioware would balk at treating your customers as criminals that need to be monitored at all times rather than as ... well, customers.

Thank you for many of the best hours of gaming I ever had and I regret that it looks right now like there won't be more of them.

Cheers
Gil

Multiplayer was added so Origins would ahve a reason to be installed. Multiplayer and Spyware on what was a until now a single player game. No you have lost my custom for this. But then after all we are the ones fighting a losing battle.

ME3 not going be a purchase for me. I feared this would happen. But now it's confirmed. I'm gone.(I have the previous 2) Without thes two requirements could I have bought it? - Yes, there's a difference between politics, and shabby treatment.

So, if ME3 requires Origin (as far as we know) is there still a chance for a separate steam version?

I have the first and second game on steam and I would like to have the third on steam as well. I know that there are games out there who are normally GFWL but have also a steam version that uses steamworks and no GFWL.

Which is really for piracy reasons. And since that is the motive, the MP feature could never be done as well as it might be if approached honestly.

That the Mass Effect series, a popular single-player action RPG is going in that direction, chimes the death knell once again for single player games, especially on the PC.

Developers, and/or publishers believe MP is where the money and security lie. Ask Valve. But they are short-sighted and either do not see the unintended consequences that this will bring, or are willfully evading them with the belief that gamers don't care.

I am sure there were many large paycheques and fancy degrees sitting together in EA leather seats in order to find a vision for the future. I know that this decision-making is too long-term and intrinsically self-important to ever be susceptible to reason. Too much money and too much of the pseudo-self-esteem of the decision-makers ride on the vision for it to ever change. It will have to run its inevitable course.

EA in particular is operating on a malevolent-universe premise. They believe that all customers are potential pirates; you need only look at their history of DRM and the sneaky, ever-changing wording of the Origin EULA.

They are acting out of fear to protect their intellectual property, abd this effectively results in a modified version of a the Streisand effect. It's like giving attention to a stalker, it just makes your problem worse. Fear will never be a motive for great success, and any success that it does bring would be less than it otherwise could have been.

Now, EA believes it knows that most people are pragmatists who want their gaming fix regardless of the conditions, so the strategy is based on the premise that consumers will let them get away with anything.

Online petitions are largely laughed at and scoffed at by insiders and media alike. Look at the Left4Dead boycott. Look at how Namco reacted to the signatures for Dark Souls on the PC. They laughed at gamers. Their whole vision of reality was closed to this possibility.

But once 60,000 signatures showed up that opened some eyes, didn't it? The same for the L4D boycott. Yet the ultimate end for both of these petitions was/will be the same as if they never even existed. Nothing changed. But the powers that be (or rather, the lack of the powers that be) are quick to remind us that they listen to us.

Principle does not matter to the publishers, gaming media, and for the most part, developers, it's all about style and attitude and thebottom-line of the fix, the hits and the sale. The fix for the gamers, the page hits for the media as to generate ad-revenue and self-aggrandizement, and the dollars entering the pocketbooks as the zombified masses take effect.

This is, of course, to be expected from a culture who choses to make dominant a game franchise that can only espouse worn-out altruistic platitudes like "victory through sacrifice" as its idea of "principle".

That this principle would never be considered as EA's business philosophy does not give anyone pause to reconsider it's applicablity to the real world qua the story of the game. Instead the proper lesson is to continue to hold up as a moral ideal destroying yourself for having the courage to protect your values, right:

Such as when Mordin tacitly admits that he should not have re-engineered the genophage by sacrificing himself to reverse the effect, i.e., that the moral action he should have taken in the past was to let all of his values be annihilated by krogan hordes. Indeed, Mordin should just feel guilty for saving the galaxy from those who tried to destroy it, however changed they may be now.

But yes, "victory through sacrifice" --- I am sure we will all be tearfully inspired by Mordin's death due to the default moral programming of the culture, and we will feel more motivation to continue with the story "for Mordin's sake" and furthermore after the string of characters who will also "make sacrifices".

Oh yes, I can feel myself being drawn-in already...with a tear falling from my eye, I am now one with my chivalrous Man-Shep and his rising testosterone levels. For the galaxy's sake we must defend little Jimmy and krogan testicular transplant bans everywhere.

Now excuse me while I go pray for forgiveness to baby Jesus for masturbating to bulldog porn...or was I going to
write an essay on the nessesity of social justice...the demands for sacrifice take so many forms...I forget. Well, whatever it is, I'll be sure to finish it off before March the 6th. I know you will clear your timetable, wallets and privacy too, gamers -- just look at all that shiny DLC, OMG armor with spikes! ITz is shiny and haz spikez! OMG itz like...medieval but we R n da fuchur! WTF? Epic. DAT SO RAD! *installs origin*

For all you people who wants to get around Origin I found the easy solution to be this. I bought Battlefield 3 not even knowing about Origin then discovered what it can do. Any sort of crack for a program like this will be a battle. They will fix it then someone might recrack etc

Now the solution I found is to buy a cheap hard disk off ebay. You can get a fairly small SATA-II drive for about £20. I installed a new version of windows on this and disabled any other hard disks in this version of windows. This may seem like alot of effort for some people but the fact is you can do this within a hour. And once its done you can safely install any future Origin games on this drive and Origin will only ever have access to this drive. I did this because I knew there will be alot of good games that require Origin  in the future like Mass Effect 3. So if anyones worried about Origin just invest £20 and a hour of your time, in the long-run its worth it.
