I'm not sure I like the whole idea of multiplayer in this franchise. This franchise has been billed from the beginning as a single player experience, even hints were dropped in the cover story in Game Informer that a MMO may be in the distant future, thats all well and good, but if this truly is the story of Shepard, this annoucement, however small an impact it would have on the "Single Player Campaign" portion, would weaken it. Its my belief that a core signatures of gameplay of this franchise will suffer development constraints to implement the multiplayer facet. Hell, the cinematic experience will, in itself, be broken a bit for me by the multiplayer, even if it has no bearing on the Single Player, just by being on the menu screen. Character death in this franchise means death, no coming back, Alenko, Williams, Wrex, all squadmates in ME2..... this will really break the immersion of these choices, making them seem more cavalier.
To be honest, I don't know how big the outcry for multiplayer has been from the consumers of both ME and ME2, I tend to think this was driven via "In House" by folks that see GOW and Halo franchises (similar genre: sci fi story driven) implementing it.
I can see a slippery slope where the consumer is maybe enticed to import "their Shepard" or "their Squadmates" for a fee, not to mention opening the game up to "Map Packs" and eventually, additional weapon packs for use strictly via multiplayer.
Save your opinions for the announcement thread. This thread is designed to find out about the logisitics of how co-op will work, not a soap box for you to vent your spleen.

@IssacShep: It will have to be unrequited love, as I'm a hardcore vagatarian. So far, the physical disk version will not come with Origin, but that may change.

Shouldn't these two questions be under the "Impact on Single Player"?- If I play Galaxy at War, will my galaxy readiness level be increased for all of my playthroughs permanently, or will my progress in GaW be tied to one playthrough at a time?
- Can we disassociate G.a.W completely from our SP campaigns? Neofelis Nebulosa

Will Bioware actually answer all these excellent questions?
Ive PM'd the evil one to make him aware of the threads existance, and he has at least had a look through it given that he editted Mesina's post on the front page. What happens next is anyones guess.
He did?

@Mesina: I'n assuming it was him, with the citing of forum rules and trademark evil grin.

Cool. Because nobody wants the most important(for the well-being of the bsn) questions to be lost in the long list of not so critical gameplay stuff.Bogsnot1 wrote...
^ Yeah, but I only recently added the "Impact on SP" section, and those were some of the first questions asked. Will move them.

Well, the news seems intersting, I like the idea to be honest.
I got a question though:
1. Will mp go parallel with sp to achive galactic readiness? In short: will achiving maximum on mp render "going extra mile in sp" unnecessary? I wish to do both, but if mp/co-op will affect sp in a way which I'll be cut off from certain mission/s flagged as "achived" than I wish to know that prior launch of the game.
For me sp campaign is the most important factor, but I'd like to take the advantage of great fun in mp as well.
Thank you.

Same here in fact my two prime concerns are;
A. The single player being dependent(even if its just a
little bit) on this "readiness level" co-op thing
and
B. The Co-op/readiness leval being dependent on other
people. (in order to play it
If we can still get all (and I mean ALL) the content from
playing just single player then thats great but if not then do we HAVE to have 4
people in co-op? I'm hoping that at least they'll be bots to fill the empty
spaces if there's say only 2 or 3 players. (or better yet, play alone with
bots)
I just dont want this to be that kind of thing where some of
us will be searching frantically through forums like these and sending various
ppl friend requests just so we can play the damn co op levals lol.

The funny thing is the twitters from folks like Casey Hudson saying it isn't what people were afraid of, a pretty damn clear indication that they know a substantial portion of their customer/fanbase does not in any way want multiplayer in their RPGs and particularly being thrown into the third game of a trilogy.
I will wait for further details to emerge before completely throwing up my hands in disgust, but I trust Bioware 0% now that they're in the same stage as I am as a gamer. Every decision they've made recently indicates that they are no longer the pre-EA acquisition Bioware.

I'm going to wait for the massive silence of everyone who said all along that there would be NO multiplayer in Mass Effect 3 and those of us who were afraid it was going to happen as part of Biwoare's continued reach-around groping of the Call of Duty crowd were negative nancies that had no idea what we were talking about.

I know what you mean
And not only does it have multiplayer, but it actually affects the single player! In a game that wasnt supposed to have multi in the first place, what was Bioware smoking lol. (But I blame EA, they have a reputation of messing things up)

priestly's post notes that you can achieve this level of 'galactic readiness' on your own in SP....that's good enough for me....as long as i wasn't missing out on something i'm good with it.....
