Dragon Age Redemption (last episode)

Episode 2 established the situation and all of our heroes really nicely. It set up excellent drama between Tallis, Cairn, and Josmael, as the 3 would have to put aside their differences in order to achieve the same goal: stopping this mad Saarebas from whatever he was planning on doing.
And what happens in Episode 3? Tallis becomes a generic "badass female action hero", as opposed to how Mark of the Assassin portrayed her as a conflicted, philosophical Qunari who strongly upheld the Qun's beliefs...despite being dorkily quirky. Josmael's character becomes one-dimensional and, quite frankly, useless in a fight (other than incapacitating those rogues for like, what, 2 minutes?). Cairn becomes lore-conflicting, and perhaps the worst offense, the Saarebas' intentions are revealed to be a stereotypical "BWAHAHAHA MORE POWER FOR ME" badguy plotline, instead of what could've been a very interesting plot of the Saarebas furthering/demonishing Qunari goals...or really, ANYTHING other than "more power for me!"
The series is starting to shape up to be a disappointment. I love Felicia Day, but after Episode 3, I can't say I see this series going anywhere special, at least in terms of writing.

So, episode 4 is out, and I've gotta say...it changed my mind on a lot of things. Nyree is a really cool character (shaping up to be my favorite), and Tallis' backstory is quite nice.
It seems like, while the main plotline is a little shoddy, the characters are written quite nicely. The episodes where there's little action and more character development (Episodes 2 & 4 thus far) are the strongest episodes the series has. Tallis, Cairn, and Nyree got some well-needed exposition, and thus their characters are strengthened. I'm still waiting on Josmael, but seeing the pattern of "every even episode is great, every odd is action-packed hooplah" makes me have hope, two weeks from now.
Because of this revelation, I'm probably going to stick around just to see what happens to the characters. I guess I just wish the main plotline was a little more intriguing.

And no, I wasn't expecting "Lord of the Rings", but you'd think a millionaire company like Bioware, owned by billionaires (EA), would care about its own franchise.
But nope, if fans can be satisfied with such a pathetic attempt at live action, then why should they try to deliver something better?

I wouldn't mind having Nyree from episode 4 as a companion in DLC or DA3.
Me too, she's really shaping up to be an interesting and funny character.

It's so cheap and unimpressive that I just stopped caring after the first episode.

I don't believe Bioware is funding it.

I'd like to get Cairn as LI and NPC in DA 3.
Is Cairn the templar? If so, I agree!
Both him and Nyree.

But they're using it to promote their DLC, and they happily accept to put the name of their company and franchise on it.
I don't see any reasons to not help the production with some million dollars, which I'm sure EA wouldn't miss, unless they're really cheap, which seems to be the case.
I mean, you don't need 200 million dollars like Michael Bay to make something awesome or have at least some decent effects. Because there wasn't good acting to begin with (Felicia Day, come on Bioware).

From what I understand, Felicia Day approached Bioware, not the other way around. She is a big fan of the games and wanted to do something with them. Without her, I don't think we would have a DAR. That would be why she is producing it with the people who produce the Guild (Felicia Day's other webseries). Now, Bioware could have thrown some money her way, but i doubt EA would put much money into something with no profit other than a marketing tie in.

Episode 5 brought Cairn's backstory, the Saarabas killed his family and he's on a vengeance trip, and some nice action scenes at the inn but otherwise a little light on plot.
Agreed. Episode Five seemed to solidify everything we thought about the series, which was that this series is really all about the characters, not so much the main plot.
Though I must say, I'm thoroughly disappointed in Josmael's character. It's one thing to be a betrayer--it's another to be a useless betrayer. In literally every fight scene Josmael has a moment where he's seen doing nothing. Unless he's been in on the Saarebas's plan from the beginning, I find his character to be super lame.

I get the impression that his only use is to be the team punching-bag.

Yeah, the whole no-budget aspect has it looking like something you'd see on a Saturday afternoon on FOX back in the late '90s. If it was a massive project, it could have been something really special.
At least it's free.

The last episode... since I started this thread and posted the first, I will post the last and give my opinion which is...
...I want more... it may not have been the highest quality acting or an Oscar-quality screenplay, but to see the world and lore of Dragon Age come to life makes it worthwhile. I hope that we will see this characters in DA3 and that they will be heavily involved in whatever plot it may be.
Again, I want to give my support and thank Felicia Day and all the other actors and people that made this project.
It's kinda sad to see it come to an end, especially since I've been waiting for it ever since they announced it, but I have a feeling that we may get another story, hopefully soon.

All in all, it was a good series. I went into it with pretty low expectations and found that I enjoyed it. The plot was a little predictable and there were a few errors, but it was still very faithful to the lore and it had an odd charm.
Now I'm a bit bummed that it's over.

Perhaps in the future, we could see some believable carta dwarves who want the hero's blood? I loved those guys in Legacy.

The last line in Episode 6 is part of the letter Tallis sends to Hawke in Mark of the Assassin, right? That means Redemption came before MotA.
And Tallis in Mark of the Assassin is all about the Qun and being Qunari.
...but she betrays the Qun and essentially admits she'll never truly be Qunari at the end of Redemption? WHERE'S THE CHARACTER CONTINUITY?!!111111one
