Oh, and the other problem being, not finding enough raw material to make healing potions, and even more important, injury kits.

i took the high dragon and shapeshifter flemeth down on the first try. the party make up for the high dragon was my elf rogue, alistair, sten, and zevran. micro-managing was a must. my party combined also downed about 80 health poultices during the fight. for the flemeth fight, it was shale, leliana, my elf rogue, and sten. once again, no healer. micro-managing was also a must, and lots o' health poultices were needed.

Funny thing is some guys find the random pack of wolves harder than any dragons in the game.

My party make up was myself (warrior), morrigan, shale/alistair and leliana. While some fights were tough and are meant to be tough, especially the dragons, I was able to beat them after a few retries.

Try adjusting your strategy, no point in doing the same thing over and over and that's not working. You can also come back to the dragon at a later stage when you've got some better equipment and a few more levels under your belt, this will make a huge difference in the difficulty of the fight.

The merchant in the Daelish elf area has infinite earthroot; the merchant at your camp has infinite flasks, concentrating agents, and distilling agents. Between them that's infinite raw material for at least the first 3 levels of health pots, if you have the money. (Mage tower has infinite lirium dust for mana pots, similarly). I dunno about deep mushrooms.

Oh, and I think the wolf pack that was annoying everyone was the one you encounter on the road, which was filled with traps my rogue (can't remember who I had along) didn't find, and then the wolves spammed overpower on my mages. (When the AI wasn't running my team into the blizzard AOE, repeatedly). I think Morrigan died twice.

My denerim bandits quest bugged and I only fought the first group, but they were still a pain; I AOE'd most of them down. Against humanoid monsters, if your enemy is in one direction, Earthquake to slow them down + an AOE to damage them is quite effective.

Can't give you much advice on the undead, which were annoying to me.

Groups of bandits, like in Denerium for the bandit quests. Also the undead in the Breilian forest. I have Alistar, Leliana, and Morrigan plus my mage. I did not have much trouble with the wolf packs so far. When I get dumped int he middle of a group, such as the undead in Brecilian forest, I die quickly it seems., Alistar, being the first to die usually.

Those are some of the harder optional encounters in the game.

I did not even do the Revanents in Brecilian forest but I have read a lot of people talk about how hard they are. They are optional fights. The Denerim bandits are hard sidequests. I remember one where you start out in an open alley with no cover against a lot of archers.  I got wiped out many times.

Two of the three bandit quests have plenty of cover.  The third one has plenty, but you have to run for it.  Don't just stand there :)
