Mark of the Assassin feedback

delete it.Now for the short version.
I LOVED this DLC. It's nice to have a
bit of the doom and gloom removed from Act 2 or 3. Light hearted humored. It
was just the right amount of fun and I'm really glad this was released.
"Legacy" is superb but it would have been tough to follow an
emotionally deep and ominous DLC with another one. I liked how Mark wasn't catastrophic
and scary for me it hit all the right notes.
Excellent new Characters /Dialogue options ( I was seriously lol'ing that
was a first!) But let's hope Fenris wasn't foreshadowing with his Getting
involved with other people's business line and Carver's Frat boy humor was just
great. I love that kid to death, now someone give him an elf chick fast!
The Art was gorgeous, I really hope we
continue to get excellent environments like that.Only minor complaint is that I own both
item packs and the personal quest items go in slots that already have level up
Necklaces. At least for Fenris and Carver.
Small little thing really...I'm 100% commited to this franchise and
I really really hope we continue to get great content like the DLC's!

The environments were definitely a step up from DA2, but that's not exactly hard to achieve. It's nice scenery, and while i know it's just a DLC, more detail and shrubbery should be implemented into open landscapes, they feel too bare. I was extremely happy to see forests again, mind you.
While some of the humour was great, there was also a lot of moments where it was very basic. Varric making a quip every time danger appears gets very old. I know humour is subjective, however.
It was nice to be able to approach the Duke's son situation in different ways. Obviously it would be nicer if these were implemented in a deeper way, but this is just a DLC.
Biggest Complaint:
I noticed that this DLC returned the MMORPG style bosses, with 1 million HP. These are not fun, i really dislike having to slowly chip away at somethings health. The last battle is honestly way too drawn out, it's just slowly chipping away at health. It became far too tedious. Please Bioware, find a way to make combat resemble less of an MMO. It is honestly not fun, and i cannot fathom why this hasn't been critisized more by the fans. Not to mention the Duke Teleporting
It was an alright DLC, overall, and the higher prominence on dialogue is something that i truly think should be carried on to DA3.

There are a lot of references and memes in it (like the YEEEAAAHHH moment after the boss battle). Perhaps a little too many references and memes for my liking. Perhaps this should be toned down in the next DLC and next DA installment.
That being said, I only have three complaints:
- how fast Tallis died. Even on Normal it was hard to keep her alive.
- just like the previous poster, the open plains could use more props, shrubbery and bushes and the like. It felt too... empty.
- Too much reliance on meme's. A few meme's are okay, but the DLC was just crammed with them. Less meme's next time please
In short, keep up the good work! You might even convince me to buy DA3 if this goes on!

This is one of things bothers me most from the start of DA2, absurd damage that player characters deal is the reason me thinks.
1 or 2 boss fights like this wont be porblem but nearly all boss fights and elites are desinged this way.
Just missed the old "They can kill me in 2 shots/1 spell but i can do that too."

- The environment was certainly improved, but at places, it felt bare. The viewpoint near the lake is a good example of how most of the area should have looked – with locations serene and beautiful enough to make you pause and watch. Another thing we have to remember is that a forest is a place with the potential to contain different floras. A bit more variety would help the realistic aspect of the game.
- The references to Mass Effect were a nice touch.
- The camera angles were used more skillfully than the previous DLCs. Was the dramatic bee scene your job, Mr. Epler? It made me laugh for a minute. Clever use of camera to emphasis on certain behaviour is always a plus.
Although, there was a time or two when Hawke’s expression didn’t match what she was saying. To name one, the moment Tallis informs her that she has to ‘talk’ with the Duke’s son herself. The expression went from neutral to disgusted. Showing disgust was perhaps too strong an emotion, because when the conversation wheel appears and you choose the diplomatic or sarcastic responses, she actually sounds willing and excited! A simple frown would have work; or more specifically, the frown Hawke gives to Aveline when she explains the meaning behind the copper marigold.
- The stealth was a nice change in gameplay, but as stated before, it was basic. While it made sense for my mage to be that sloppy, I expected to see more agility from my rogues. If I had to make a suggestion, I would say leave a bit more improved stealth skill as a passive ability for all classes – because everyone can throw a stone or hide in shadows – but give rogues the option to improve their basic stealth ability. For example, it can be added as a branch/ability to the Shadow skill tree, with each upgrade improving the way Hawke moves and acts in stealth. You already have Tallis’ stealth animation and skills. Why not put it to good use?
- One thing I like about Legacy was how tactic was important in surviving a tough battle. While I do agree that bosses need to have a large pool of health, I think the key to defeating them should be clever use of tactics. Not just one single tactic, because people have different play styles, and trying to figure out that single way for defeating the boss while constantly dying can become frustrating soon (defeating the Guardian shades at the Final Seal without knowing the altars' healing abilities comes to mind).
Again, thanks for the DLC. It’s good to know that Bioware is listening to fan feedback and using them to improve their games.
Edit: So apparently, Isabela mentions 'treasure hunting in Wildervale' in one of her comments. This, coupled with the hangman T-shirt and the pirate ship image makes me wonder if you are dropping foreshadows of the next DLC...

+ Puzzles: GREAT work here Bioware. This kind of stuff is what adds gameplay value -problems that require some thinking, not just click-and-done procedures-. I really enjoyed all the treasure vault part.
+Stealth: A great idea, not perfectly implemented, but very fun
+Sidequests: Wish those secondary missions were also present in the main adventure. This time, optional quests are well done and fit perfectly with the rest.
+Pace: Combat, plot and puzzles are very well presented. When I fought the optional boss I knew I was in trouble; when I spoke with Tallis I knew there was something fishy; and when I entered the vault, I felt there was something valuable there. Every part of gameplay is in good and enjoyable amounts
- Tone: It seems that you are going forward to the childish tone of DA2. Example: I think the last boss is fun to play, but all the dialogue from the Duke, and those ridiculous out-of-the-scale attacks, felt like some kind of bad-JRPG. I don't think it's a great idea you keep this (it reminded me of the disastrous final battle with Meredith).
-Art direction: Tallis is the perfect example that the new art direction just do not work properly. She looks horrible. It's supposed to be sexy and seductive, but the canon design for "new" elves ruins it. Also, the overall design seems incredibly bland and cartoonish -the caves, the castle, even the forest... they are way too colorful and warm; a dungeon or a cave is supposed to make me feel unwelcomed!-.
-Decisions: Dont take me wrong, you have done great things for replayability, and some strong decisions coul be made. But at the end, as it seems inherent to Hawke, climatic instances have only one way to be dealt with. I expected that my final battle was against some qunari and a particullary qunari follower. The way things developed seemed artificial to me.
-And suddenly, it's dark: The way it suddenly gets dark after sneaking into the castle is extremely awkward. A little detail, but very noticeable.
So, all in all, I enjoyed the dlc. But I think Legacy is better. MotA makes some pretty cool things, but goes forward in some DA2 flaws.

1: The companion interaction, I was impressed earlier by Legacy that they made the effort to include unique dialogue etc for them, and now again in MoTa, add to that their specific quests!
It brings such huge amounts of life and immersion to the thing, really really nice to see.
As well as the many mentions of Hawkes previous actions and adventures, at the party in particular.
2: How truly funny it was, there were several moments that were seriously hilarious.
Sure, there are plenty of funny bits throughout DA2 but this was maybe even another level.
Additionally. the story and characters were all really rich in general, as was the locations, it felt well put together.
Tallis was exceptionally well made (design as well as dialogue) I thought she meshed really well with the DA2 elf look, it demonstrates new ways to use the IMO genius DA2 version of the elves.
The combat, with the new boss mechanics were enjoyable and seemless, lengthy epic boss fights are one thing that's always appreciated.
I enjoyed the Puzzles, but I had to cheat on the tile portrait or I would be there still...
Also, there were Murlocs. <3
The only negative was the sneaking around parts, maybe just not my cup of tea but that part put a pause on enjoyment momentarily
And it did indeed get dark all of a sudden, a small detail but it's noticeable.
Personally I would have preferred to play as Tallis or something through that part, I dunno.
Massive kudos on another fantabulous DLC!

My problem? I decided i would play through again with another character and i couldn't, that reason was because DA2 bored me so badly, it left such a bad impression on me that honestly playing through the DLC again just made me not want to purely on the fact how bad i thought DA2 was. So yes the DLC is showing us that Bioware is listening but does that mean they are listening when it comes to DA3? Cause all the praise we gave DAO despite its imperfections; like interaction, they took nearly completely out the game.
But yeah, the DLC was good.

Best line in all of DA2. This DLC may not have been as good as Legacy, but I actually appreciate Bioware trying some new stuff with this and having it be more dialogue heavy. My only gripes would be sometimes the goofiness was laid on a little thick (just in certain parts, it was at an acceptable level most of the time) and the length of the boss fight. I liked the concept of the boss fight, and the different components of it, it just went on a little too long.
The one thing I will say is that I hope that DA3 (or an expansion) implements throwing weapons as an option for all rogues and not just Tallis.
I actually didn't have a problem keeping Tallis alive, but the Hawke I played it through on is a Spirit Healer, so now that they fixed the Aura all I had to do was stay close to her and cast the barrier spell on her occassionally and she only dropped during the boss fight (on Hard). I can see it would be impossible to keep her alive on Nightmare, though. I liked the Mage Armor, it actually fit with my Spirit Healer really well.

Dialogue: Loved it, like with Legacy. Lots of fun moments.
Content: the Qunari are awesome in DA2. An interesting foe. Any time i get to learn more about them is a good time imho.
Characters: Tallis was/is pretty cool. Good dialogue, and a good job at the voice acting.
Combat: A couple of pretty challenging fights. New monsters.
Environment: Gorgous outside locale. It was nice to be outside of Kirkwall. Can we please have Tevinter next? ^^
Not so good stuff:
Combat: Sometimes, the boss fights are a little too... long? With no real option but to start all the way over. Difficulty should perhaps not come as a result of cramping fingers ^^
Also... Tallis seemed VERY fragile. I *think* i got it worked out on my last (3rd) playthrough, changing through some tactics, but she really could have benefitted a lot from some Constitution.
And the Horror thing... Again, challenging, I think i have it down now (will have to wait till 4th playthrouh to be certain), but... damn that was tough. Sure wore out my reload hotkay.
Stealth: Hmm. A classic RPG thing. A little basic perhaps, but, baby steps? I would certainly like it if it was improved on and then introduced again in future DLC. Like, more abilities and depth.
All in all:
I nice piece of DLC. Glad I bought it. Looking forward to whats next. Would, however, love it if it came out a bit faster, but what are you gonna do

just finished the DLC
I liked the stealth bit. yes it is basic but at least it is there and that could be a nice talent tree.
the waves coming from the same entry point were good. I liked the leader of the you know who running back to get more forces involved.
The combat is still too arcanish and repetitive for my taste.
but it is a good dlc

5) I would have liked to mention the plight of saarebases to Tallis and seen her reaction.
There is banter involving Tallis and Anders, when Tallis is trying to convince him that the Qunari are a free and accepting society, and Anders points out, "Not for mages" (not exact dialogue, but close). Tallis remains silent after that.

Storyline was really good, I look forward to seeing Tallis in DA3 (hopefully), she would make a great addition to the team.
However I was a little disappointed with some of the loot, didn't really seem to be anything that great, if you have the weapons/armor packs (1&2) then pretty much everything is going to be sold, I didn't find any armor that I can remember but I did play through it kind of quick, so I might have missed some stuff. I've never been very happy with the armor and weapons designs in DA2, please do some research, maybe look at the mods and see what players are creating. Honestly the DLC's are the best thing about DA2, at least they make some sense. I really liked the new elf designs, they look much better, in this DLC it doesn't look like their nose is an extension of their forehead.
So my review of this DLC is 8/10, only because there are some bugs issues and the lack of decent armor and weapons, but it was certainly worth getting. Good job on this one Bioware, Legacy was good too, enjoyed that one as well.

Edit:: Yes, I agree with the above poster. I wasn't happy playing a female and walking around in pants. It would have been nice to include a chest somewhere to have a choice for pants or a gown. I did like the clothes Hawke was wearing and I was disappointed they didn't return to Hawke's mansion with me. I think I'd rather wear this outfit at home than the one we normally get. Once again, something I've paid for and not being able to use later. Just like in GOA and WH, not having access to my storage chest at Warden's Keep or access back to the Vigil.

- the beggining!!! - it was a serious sh*t if you know what I mean
- nice puzzle games!!!! Made me use my intelligence enough to feel little clever;) but not too much that I could get irritated by my stupidity:P
- sneaking was a nice feature, adding new experience to gameplay
- I simply adore that Hawke speaks more in the banter, and it is different with each personality, I already played with "good Hawke" and "sarcastic Hawke" (also some kind of "personality" which game characters would recognize is one of my favourite aspects of DA2)
- Isabela!!! If you're about to play- take her!!! DLC adds really something nice to her character, especially if you romanced her, it'd be sweet<3 (her "quest" is cool but I mostly mean her conversation with Tallis near the end)
- boss fight was quite fun, I mention it because I don't like most boss fights in games
Okay, that's much, I could write even more - DA is my favourite game and I like most things about it... and get too much excited about DLCs;)
However, I liked LEGACY better because of more personal for my Hawke and generally better story, In Mark of the Assaissin I felt a little like I was in some kind of a commercial of a Redemption, whole thing was too focused on Tallis while there are already unique and perfect companions which I care about a lot! I'd prefer to know something more about them and develop my relationships, there could be so much more story to most of them. But I don't mind even if DLC had to promote Redemption, it was more of a great game to play, loved it

One more thing: as Hawke is from a city which has suffered from Qunari attack and since we know the Qunari wars history is very bloody, it is a bit strange that Hawke has no option do take the scroll by force from Tali in the end. So we have a Qunari spy who has a list of spies all around, and we know Qunari are going to invade again in near future. What we do? We let the spy to walk away with that list. Now where is the sanity in that?
Oh yeah, I absolutely forgot to add this part to my review. I understand the need to keep character alive as there are web-series about her
Hawke:
- Give that back!
Tallis:
- Nope!
Hawke
- Oh well... *does nothing*
At least you could have given player the ability to start a fight and then make an escape cutscene for your precious Tallis. She can pretty much teleport, so she could escape. It would be less painfull than to let her just walk away.

Random context: I took Aveline and Isabela, who both got unique quests. I played on NIghtmare, and it probably took me a total of around 7 hours, including re-loads.
THE WILL BE SPOILERS AHEAD
Initial Impressions
Much like Legacy, I think the most significant flaw is that it shows just how badly stitched-together the main game is. Nonetheless, this can be seen as a positive, given that it shows the team is working in the right direction.
Tallis was an interesting and entertaining character, who meshed well with the main party. Her unique abilities were useful, though I felt her specialisation could have had a better name. But y'know, spoilers and all. Whether she ever appears again in future DA-game content, she was a great character.
Loved the humour and references at the party - though I played in Act 2 so I hadn't actually met a lot of them yet. Will be looking forward to playing it again on my completed file to see how things change. Duke Prosper talking about 'the prize...' was an undoubted highlight. Finding out that Hawke is known as 'honey badger' at the Rose was also mildly entertaining. And let us not forget, 'who is this woooman, teeaghan?'
Puzzles were a nice change of pace and interesting in that they required a bit of thinking (only really the picture0flip one really took any thought, though). Would like to see more in future.
Enemies and Combat
The new enemy designs were very nice, most notably the wyverns who were exceptionally well designed. The ghasts were interesting and unexpected, and the Orlesian guard armour/masks were great. The Golden Prince's Raiment from Item Pack #1 makes more sense now. Duke Prosper's design itself was fantastic, from the wyvern-skin sash/plate to his forked beard and helmet. He had teh right amount of pomp and sinister.
The encounters themselves were well-thought out, with the waves occurring when it made sense (the intro scene was brilliant btw, though Crows are a bit clihe at this point - and maybe I missed something, but did the unsigned letter lead anywhere?). I liked how the ranged foes would automatically move to the high-ground, and one Tal'Vashoth encounter late where the leader would retreat through the various ranks of his men along the path. I thought this was done well, despite getting a party-wipe from the Saarebas.
Also, did I just miss it in the main agme or did that TV-leader have a unique model? Regardless, it was really nice.
The final battle was brilliant, definitely one of my favourite in DA2 (alongside the ARW, Meredith and Corypheus). I loved luring Leopold into falling off the cliff or smashing into the wall. I felt the first phase (against the Duke) was a bit too long, but I think a lot of that was down to my tactics. I love these multi-part battles against unique foes, which helps to create a sense of epicness and urgency to them. The Duke's attacks were great, I loved how in the first part Leopold would crawl around teh ruins raining poison spit over the battlefield, and then later he woudl mark a character and Leopold would chase that one alone. It made setting up the aforementioned cliff/wall incidents easier. The Duke's 'ultimate' attack, with the exploding arrow/bomb combination was very nice, and easily avoided if you were careful. Maybe he had a bit too much health, but I found the battle exhilerating all the way to the end, and on Nightmare that was a while. Oh, and the final kill, where my mage used the fire to bait Leopold off the cliff edge was fantastic.
The secret/optional fight against the Horro was prrobably the toughest thing in the DLC. Took me numerous goes. That could have been more interesting. Did I read above that the altar heals you? Well that would have helped immensely.
Environments
Beautiful and interesting to explore. I loved exploring and looking at the scenery outside. The caves were a bit generic, but the underground lake gave them a nice touch. This is what the main game should have looked like. Chateau Haine itself was interesting, and in-keepign with DA2's artistic style, the Vault and the Courtyard stand out particularly to me. The jewel of the DLC was, well-and-truly, the outdoors environments, though. However, more features like the viewpoints would not have been missed. These are minor issues, however.
I guess this would be under 'setting', but I loved the party itself. I thought it was done very well.
Others have commented that it got dark the moment you stepped inside. I didn't actually notice, but possibly having the courtyard-party during twilight would have helped.
Lore
Not much to say other than it was most appreciated. New information on the Qunari is always welcome, and some of the other little tie-ins to things like the Black Vials quest in Origins were nice touches that added a lot to the setting. I'd always wanted to meet a non-kossith Qunari for the perspective. It's nice to experience the Qun from the viewpoint of a convert rather than someone like Sten or the Arishok. Good job here all-round.
Additional
The stealth could have done with some work. It was very bare-bones, but it was a first-attempt (hell, much better than the final mission for Slim Couldry in Origins). Would like to see where Bioware take this from now on.
If I'm right, apparently you can't take the scroll from Tallis at the end. Admittedly, I don't really know what Hawke would do with it, but this should have been an actual choice. I didn't pick the option anyway, but only because I thought it was an actual option. Having those details in Part 1 or 2 though could radically alter the plot, which si beyond the scope of a DLC and the reason I assume the choice was railroaded. Fair enough, but a tad galling.
There were also times where questions you coudl ask led to some inconsistencies. For example at the end I asked Tallis if she knew the Tal'Vashoth, despite hearing earlier that she obviously did. Some alterations here would have been appreciated, or just locking that question out so I couldn't pick it.
Banter was brlliant, as always. I loved Aveline and Isabela's rivalry, and the odd bits where Hawke joined in is something I'd love to see more of in future. Will have to take different characters on my next run-through to hear more.
All in all, great DLC. I will be looking forward to the next one! (Which will probably be, what, January?)

Whereas I want it to DIAF. I'm all for a rogue stealth skill, though, especially if they bring back traps. The most fun of stealth in Origins was setting up ambushes and dismantling enemy ambushes before you brought your bruisers in. I just thought the MoTA version was pointless and annoying. 1- Graphics. After playing other games I couldn't stop noticing how the DA's graphics and animations are outdated. Another thing: Tallis has the worst appearence among all the characters you've created so far. I don't mind the Felicia Day's looks: the caracter itself it is badly modeled and her clote's textures are low quality ones.
2- The new open areas. The player still can't walk freely in an open countryside or a forest... the maps are designed with rooms connected with corridors, even in the outdoor environments. You have to walk on the paths that the developers have designed for you, sometimes you find a clearing and you know that for every clearing there's an encounter. Ok, now the player can choose where to go, but other than that it's always the same bioware style: corridors everywhere!
3- Even this time Hawke doesn't manage to be the hero he should be. He accepts to work for someone else and gets cheated like a baby (like always I should say). He gets involved in something that is none of his business, without any reason. In the beginning Tallis doesn't promise him anything, even the smallest reward. Why should Hawke care about a Qnari traitor and stuff like that? I don't find any reason. As always he ends up doing other people's dirty work like he was a mercenary, slays a lot of people and for what? A fake jewel which is a fairly poor magic item too.
4- The talking action. Sorry: did you say talking action? What can I achieve by talking in the castle's courtyard? Nothing!! I meet lots of important characters from the previos DA episodes and all I can do with them is saying hi and letting Tallis do her work. When I started walking among the crowd I was hoping to achieve something by talking with those people, but I hadn't the chance to do anything: did I ****** them off? There was no drawback. Did I say everything right? There was no advantage.
5- The sneaking action. I like the concept, but you have to improve it A LOT. Getting caught means that your character teleports back to Tallis so you can try again. The knocked off guards revive after 30 seconds and say: "I must have fallen asleep". What?? This is not an arcade game, this is an RPG game!! Some realism please!
6- The final boss. He is ludicous! A warrior that can teleport, yeah, cool. And what about his "repeating crossbow"? It seems a James Bond's tool, i bet it can be used even to cook pasta and prepare coffee. Why do the orlesians want the black powder if they have weapons like those??? Do you want to break through in the Japan market? Be shure not to loose the western one.
Good things:
1- The combat gameplay and the final fight, really spectacular as always an fun to play.
2- The choices. Finally!!! The chance to say "go **** yourself" to Tallis at least makes you feel a little bit indipendent after you've been used for the umpteenth time.
3- The orleasian masks and the dresses: finally all the main NPCs were dressed in different ways. A good achievement.
