The stealth could have done with some work. It was very bare-bones, but it was a first-attempt (hell, much better than the final mission for Slim Couldry in Origins).

I took Zevran with me on that and thought it was grand.  Good times.

Oh it was entertaining. It was just... well there wasn't much to it. You got to poison some wine at one point, but it was generally clunky. DA2 actually had mechanics, that while underdeveloped, could be expanded in future.

Would like to see where Bioware take this from now on.

Whereas I want it to DIAF.  I'm all for a rogue stealth skill, though, especially if they bring back traps.  The most fun of stealth in Origins was setting up ambushes and dismantling enemy ambushes before you brought your bruisers in.  I just thought the MoTA version was pointless and annoying.  Life is too short to spend time being scolded by poncy Orlesians.

Oh is that all that happens when you get caught? I assumed it would get into a fight or something worse would happen.

I enjoyed the DLC. Great mix of humour and dialog.

Thanks BioWare.

I don't know if this has been mentioned but I really like how all thing things I equipped Tallis with were back in my inventory once I finished it. :)

I thought the DLC was a blast and I love the flirting between my F/hawke and romanced Anders after the prison break.

The Orlesian yells 'intruder in ze chateau!" and you get sent back to start point where Tallis reprimands you.  Yep, that's it.  Over and over.

I don't think I can express my horror with mere words.
I'll give it my best though : why would you do this what the **** why would you do this what the **** why would you do this what the **** why would you do this what the **** why would you do this what the **** why would you do this what the **** why would you do this what the **** why would you do this what the **** why would you do this what the **** why would you do this what the **** why would you do this what the ****

Also : a character modeled after Felicia Day? Seriously? Corny "humor"? CSI references? "The duke fell off his grace"? Just go out of business already, this is worse than original DA2

I'm normally a rather calm person, and I've left this forum quite a while ago, but this DLC is an insult to humanity. I can't believe bioware has come to this

I thought that was rather silly, too. What makes it worse is that there's even an achievement for sneaking through "undetected"... and yet, even if you get caught 100 times in a row, you still earn the achievement. So the whole stealth section is pretty pointless if it doesn't even matter that you get caught.

I feel I should give a real review of MotA and not just what disappointed me.

The PROS:

1) Tallis -- not only did I enjoy her character and how Felicia Day did everything from voice acting to motion capture, I find her to be interesting and the subject of many of my wild theories regarding the Qunari, alongside Sten. I suspect that one of the reasons why I enjoyed her so much though was because Felicia Day reminded me a great deal of Merrill when she was promoting her web series Redemption. And that's an awesome thing.

2)The Qunari information -- finding out about the Qunari in Thedas really made me go "Whoa...".

3)the new maps -- specifically the forest locales. They look like an actual forest using DAII's engine. However there were some downsides, which I'll address in the Cons section. That's not to say though that the Chateau wasn't amazing. It was. But the forest really got me.

4) Snarky Hawke's Dialogue -- Pure gold when delivered from a Male Hawke

5) The Stealth -- I see it as an improvement over the Stealth element that was in DAO, for a few reasons:

  • Here, it's more realistic despite a few flaws. You have to stay in the shadows to not be caught, whereas in Origins you were simultaneously in the shadows and in the light and yet you couldn't be caught unless you deactivated the magic stealth of awesomeness.
  • You have to knock out people or distract them. Again, this adds an element of realism to the stealth because you could just walk right past the guards in Origins in the magic stealth shield of awesomeness with nothing happening. But this part of the pro also has its flaws too. I shall address them in the Cons section also.
  • This stealth is more about being stealthy, while the combat ability stealth is about combat stealth. There's a difference between the two, and it's good to see that Bioware is going to lengths to distinguish the two. Here's hoping for a lot more stealthy stealth like MotA's in the future!
6) The cameos -- Minor Spoilers ahead!!!

It was nice seeing familiar people show up. Though Bioware, you really do need to do some work on Bann Teagan and Isolde. Isolde's face is a bit too chubby and Bann Teagan looks nothing like his Origins self. His hair is too bright when it was originally darker and his stubble is almost nonexistent as well as being a different color. His skin should also be tan a bit more and his nose seems to be different from his Origins nose.

7) How combat wasn't the only way to solve something -- self explanatory, and much appreciated. Keep it up!

8) bringing back the companions for dialogue -- self explanatory, and much appreciated. Keep it up!

9) new enemies both human and monstrous -- self explanatory, and I'd like this to be continued.

10) Puzzles -- I like puzzles.

11) Combat is continuing to improve. However, your boss fights could use a bit of work.

12) everything dealing with the Qunari

13) Everything we got with Merrill. Especially the shanking bit.

14) People moving in the background when you strike up a conversation with someone -- it's minor, but it's nice to see nevertheless

15) the male elf in the prison that shows how the bodies for them are fine -- hopefully this will quiet the people who say they look anorexic. Now just give us a female elf body that doesn't have the attire of some of the Rose's elves! Like put them in a bra or something. I mean, I don't think they look anorexic at all and you can clearly see that the Elven women look fine (especially Tallis), but you know how some BSN people are.

16) the elven women. They looked nice.

There's definitely more, but it's time to move into the Cons:

CONS:

1) No sidequest for Merrill -- I am thoroughly disappointed! You gave almost everyone else a sidequest, but Merrill gets none! And we were led to believe she'd be important for the DLC since you guys used the Sabrae clan's heraldry (Merrill's clan)! Shame on you!

2) No Merrill-Sarcastic Hawke dancing scene.

3) No option to have sex with Tallis, or better yet a menage a trois with Tallis and the LI. Or better yet, an option to have a foursome with Isabela.

4) the lack of wildlife -- this is the downside the forest had. A lack of wildlife being seen made the forest not feel as alive as it should've been. The Wyverns eat the wildlife in the area right? Well why can't we see any halla or deer or rabbits? Or birds in the air?

5) guards are turned around for convenience's sake sometimes -- this is one downside that the stealth had. If a guard is going to be turned around, give us a good reason! Why couldn't the guard captain in the Chateau be reading a book, or be so pissed off at the Duke that he pisses all over his stuff?

6) Lack of consequence to being caught -- this is the other problem I noticed. Getting caught only to be told "You can sneak by again" isn't fine with me. Don't get me wrong I love the new stealth, but I think that a battle should've ensued if you're caught or you should have to start over from the very beginning.

7) The ending -- This is something that I'm arguing on principle, because I won't ever choose the option. But when you demand a certain something from someone the plot demands that that someone keep the item in a non-believable way. Simply being told "No" isn't enough.

You can see solutions people have come up with for believable ways the plot could've demanded that someone keep the item in this thread: http://social.biowar...index/8498996/1

8) the re-use of an armor set appearance for the armor we got in MotA. This is a minor dislike and I understand that you don't want them outshining the item packs, but could they at least look unique? Legacy's armor was great seeing as how we never wore anything that looked like Warden armor, so it was new for Hawke. But the armor in MotA is just a recycled armor look.

I'm sure there are more and I will edit them in later.

I'm sure there are more and I will edit

I have a question: when your at the party who is the woman with Teagan? from her speech I assumed it was the Arl's wife( I can't remember if she was introduced or not) but why was Teagan there and not the Arl, and why would she be with Teagan and not at home with her son and husband? Just wondering is all, I realize that the Arl's wife was Orlesian but it still seemed a little odd for her to be there without the Arl.

Have you met Isolde? Eamon was probably having a much-needed holiday.

Or she and Teagan are having an affair. Either works.

OK I've just completed my second playthrough of MotA.
I made some different choices this time around which to my delight opened up an area that I would not have seen much of otherwise (and more combat).
I said it before, but I'll say it again: the environments in this DLC are absolutely superb! Bioware has clearly raised the bar on the quality of their environments which is really nice to see! Hopefully this will continue.
Having now done a thorough and "not rushed" playthrough I can also say that it is a very polished chunk of game.
I WANT MORE!!!

Mark of the Assassin was truly a good DLC, I felt it was well spent money

it was long enough
funny, witty writing
good inside jokes ("I should go", "but the priiize", a skeleton crushed by a cheese wheel...)
great writing (I played almost entirely as a sarcastic Hawke, which suited entirely the Orlesian party set-up)
Design for Orlesian clothes and armor was very good.
Big splitting paths and varied environment
New creatures!
Tal-Vashoth leader and Salit had unique designs, cool
Nice cameos

she was. It is Isolde.

I assume that Teagan was there because he's been to the Free Marches before. Either to retrieve a drunken Alistair or because he was with King Alistair.

As for Isolde, she's a former Orlesian noble as you said. It makes sense that she'd be invited. Also Tallis says that the guests on the Duke's list were all friends of his, save for Hawke. So this could apply to both Isolde and Teagan.

I did't get it. Really can't say more about this DLC. When I thought about it like a mission of stealing large red gem, it seemed okay, but once all the qunari stuff started to happen, I kinda was just confused and dragged straight to the end by all powerful plot. The one of a kind ugly elf chick is written on a level of new to roleplaying girls are in some sessions (Mary Sue syndrome) I had or observed. There is just zero subtlety in implementing her into main plot. She is hot, in armor which makes sense no more than Isabelas. She's an elf and qunari both, like grabbing in everything which is "interesting" in DA world. She is nice and compassionate, and funny, and she also murders everyone in cewl cutscenes, but sniffs for one guard she had to murderknife there. She omg knows Leliana (OFKORS!) Her dialogue and story consisted mostly of some quirks, jokes and casual DA2 writing - a lot of shadowing and hints to everything, so she would look like important character, but she actually not. In a way, speaking with her reminded me of Flemeth in DA2.
There seemed to be an effort to put some thoughts into qunari religion, but to me everything turned out just more messy. Again, lots of words without any real meaning behind them. I also had a hard time answering when Tallis asked my opinion, because it's fooking hard to answer a religion, philosophical or any other question more difficult than "You wanna sleep with me" with 1-3 words using that stupid piece of **** which dialogie wheel is-... allright, I'm breathing slowly.
All the other characters got a line or two, I'd say "they were there", and that's it. The antagonist was over the top in cartoonish kind of way, and could have used more fleshing out than hohohos and ending screams. His beard is a spectacular view, though.
Hawke (male) lines were decent. It seemed a lot more that I play three diffirent Hawkes, I don't remember actor having so much fun before. On a banquet, he was an actor who played a character who acted.. complicated stuff enought to reload a few times and see how he goes with locals there on a ceremony.
Which, by the way, had delicious ham.
The design of combat encounters seemed better than usual, they were more evenly placed in between of dialogues, stealth (which just did't exist before) and puzzles. On Normal difficulty, game just grabbed me through the combat without any effort, so that's it. I did't play on hardcore or insane because after beating the game I don't care about DA2 combat anymore.
Stealth.. was there, nothing spectacular, just a straight on script job. If it had more to do with character class and stats, or better skills, I would comment on that, but it does't seem to, so rpg system did't move forward even inch.
Puzzles were tied to their surroundings and setting a bit poorly and made little sense. I clicked randomly a few times and they were solved. Overall they were just too easy.
I did't hear any music which could grab my attention.
Change of landscape was nice. Saw some bushes and flowers, mountains, pinetrees and trees overall, again, was a nice change.
A more realistic and detailed way they did new clothes looked good.
I don't believe there were any meaningful choices and consiquences whatsoever, which means a lot in RPGs, ya know? The one fork that looked like most important did't even had the balls to end adventure when you leave the most relevant to the plot character to finish her quest alone and fail or somethin.
Overall I did't hate the thing. I know I hated DA2 a lot. So either I cooled off a bit, or DLC was made on a bit higher level than usual, or maybe it was just to short to place any story that made sense or get some emotion from me. I did't feel anything, aside from a few giggles here and there.

My two cents...

I'm a female gamer and very new to the DA world. I haven't opted to play Origins yet, but I was intrigued by the characters at the party, especially the underpants guy. ;)

My positive feedback....

It takes a certain type of genius to invent interactive wyvern poo.

You have pretty eyes. Yes, that alone was worth the money.

As a woman, I can wholeheartedly say that I couldn't give a wyvern's left buttock about Hawke's party attire. Actually, the colors were feminine, plus the odd comment from an NPC about Hawke being too pretty to be the champion, did enough to make me feel feminine. The clothes do not define the woman. She does that through her actions. I think I just said something profound. I'm scared.

The chateau architecture and grounds were lovely.

The choreography and facial expressions were very excellent. Eyebrows say it all.

What's more important, and probably at the top of the list for many female gamers ( and I don't really care if it is. It's at the top of mine) would be to make Fenris half-naked, naked or lying under the covers with Hawke having pillow talk. What's the point in bushes if you can't use them? Blatant flirting wouldn't go amiss either nor would another sex scene. Let's be one with nature. They seem close these days. It's too bad Fenris didn't discover the mating wyvern's first!

I have no shame.

Gideon Emery was great as always.

Seriously, I loved this new DLC. The scenery was in stark contrast to Kirkwall, which made me feel as if I had traveled far from home. It was lush and brimming with life. Too bad it was inhabited by the Orlesians ;) Fenris hated the dirt even if it was pretty :/

Hawke came to life for me in this add-on. I have always played as a female Hawke. I guess I don't have what it takes to be hairy and manly. I loved her expressions when she spoke freely to passerby's about avoiding certain foods. (I think avoid the cheese platter was the line?)

Tallis was occupied during this time and Hawke was trying to divert attention. (I don't think that is too much of a spoiler) . Sometimes, the minor expressions are the best. This is just one example that didn't seem to be a spoiler. Trust me, there are many others I could cite. But I won't. That would be boring.

I was aghast concerning the ghasts. I'm undecided about ghasts. They reminded me of mutated smurfs for some reason. I did like the insane giggle.

I noticed that there may be horses in Thedas or someone used a classical painting.

It was nice to get away from the Mage/Templar problems

Legacy was an entertaining add-on, but I preferred the less bleak environment of MotA. Yes, the bleak environment was fitting for Legacy. I guess I like my water without fire.

The dialogue was excellent between companions. My favorite being Anders and Fenris. I am convinced that those two were an old married couple in a past life.

The puzzles

Peaceful solutions. I'm a hippy.

May I just add, since this will probably be my only post, that Fenris was superbly written from beginning to end in DAII. He is one of the best imagined game characters of all time.

My complaints....

I was ambivalent when it came to Tallis. She didn't evoke the emotion that the other voice actors in DA II managed to accomplish. It's a high standard. I feel spoiled.

I did get Tallis to survive longer after the second play through. But, unfortunately, because of my ambivalence towards her, I often left her foaming at the mouth on the ground instead of reviving her.

I would have preferred my companions to stay with me during the party. I'm insecure and need their constant presence. Actually, I just wanted Fenris to sniff the cheese platter and make faces.

More dialogue triggers

More companion quests and evolution of their lives. Maybe the companions bring a friend. I'd love to hear Donnic, Fenris, Aveline, Izzy and Hawke converse. I'd suggest Hawke throw a party, but Meredith would crash it.

The boss fight was a tad too long.

I'd prefer a main quest that involves a character, whether living or dead, that has deep significance to Hawke. Tallis felt more like something that belonged in a DA II side quest. I hope that doesn't sound too snarky.

I'd like the special new armour to look unique. The headpiece did nothing for my mage.

Sneak sequence, though, to be honest, I just like to hit things so that is probably why it didn't appeal.

Really likes this DLC, i liked Legacy bu liked this one even more best one yet in my oppinion few nice touches with gameplay features, (all the non combat sneaking etc) some great boss batlles and overall really good piece of content, and it took me longer than 1-2 hours to complete and i missed a bit. Great work loved Tallis as a character shame we couldnt keep her for rest of the game, and was nice to see certain characters back from Dragon Age origins, definately worth the money cant wait for the next DLC or hopefully expansion if its as good as this one.

So I like the content of these expansions to an extent, but I realized I just paid 20 bucks(1/3 of the price of DA2 when it came out) for 2 quests. Short quests at that. If you end up releasing 4 more of these painfully short quests, I will have paid what I paid for DA2 for 6 quests(while the game itself has closer to 50 or 60 range). A waste of money by far. Quality is nice, price is way above what I am willing to pay for short quests.
