I loved this DLC, it was immensely satisfying and highly entertaining. After I was done I spent a few days experiencing bouts of giddiness and euphoria.

Great
-Not being attacked every 15 meters. This not only helped to build suspense but it also gave me time to appreciate the beautiful landscape.
-Puzzles, although two rune colour puzzles were redundant.
-Different paths to take. The 'forget this, I'm going home' branch was my personal favourite.
-The battles felt more structured, were unique experiences and at times surprised me (in a good way).
-Humour. It was refreshing to have an abundance of silliness again.
-Prosper de Montfort, his colourful (rooster inspired?) outfit and movements were stunning.
-The Wyverns. I loved the way the forest came alive thanks to their subtle and sometimes not so subtle appearances.
-Sebastian got to come too. Granted I didn't play with him (teehee) until my forth playthrough but I really appreciate that he's still being supported.
-All the minor companion quests were often insightful to the character and they added a great deal to the re-play value.

Mixed
-The Ghast were too painfully unoriginal for my tastes but I guess that's supposed to be part of their charm. I thought they nicely filled the roll of a surface and cave dwelling creature. I loved that I had some control over whether I fought them.
-Tallis. The pre-release information about her screamed Mary Sue to me. I still think she fits firmly into that category but by the end I liked her. Underneath the over the top attempts at being awesome is a rather complex and endearing character. I couldn't get her skills/tactics to work effectively so she died a lot but admittedly I've never had much luck with rouges.
-The stealth was a great option to have but failed in practical application. I think it could have worked better if it had been more about utilizing actual hiding spots to avoid guards instead of being invisible 2 meters behind them. Adding faster walking with a sound element might have been nice too.
-I really liked the fancy party and all the guests but I feel that having every guest be a cameo was a wasted opportunity to see more of what Thedas has to offer.

Not so great
-I want Hawke's nose back. Yes I'm serious. It's stupid and irrational but I want his nose back.
-Carver's and Bethany's post act 1 reintroductions were rushed and unsatisfying.
-Given a few of the subjects and party banter some acknowledgement of my Hawke being a Mage would have been nice.
-It could've used more of an epilogue. I'm just nit picking now and will shut it.

What??? Hawke has the same nose in MotA as in the rest of the game?

Tallis plays the "I've got your nose" game. She dosn't give it back. I hate it when people do that but this totally a personal quirk of mine.

I liked the new DLC a lot but I couldn't help but feel the story was not as strong as it was in Legacy.

Few things I loved:

New environments: I loved the new maps. It felts more open and less straight forward than some of the other more predictables maps within the game. The forest where the hunt took place reminded me a lot of the Kokari Wilds or even the Brecilian Forest. It feels good to be running around and not know where exactly you're going. You know the exploration aspect felt a bit better here than in the base game. The castle seemed pretty big and was happy to notice much more detail here.

Social interactions: I was glad that you guys brought some of it back from DA:O/ Awakenings. Dealing, talking to nobles, etc~

Tallis: I thought she was a funny and very likable character. Felicia did a good job here. Really wish she is brought back in DA3 or other DLC.

Stuff that wasn't so great:

Story: I thought for the most part the story wasn't as interesting. Or like it had the potential to be much more interesting. And this is coming from someone who likes any Qunari content. I wasn't as engaged in the story as I was with Legacy, even though I liked Tallis.

Items: There weren't any items worth getting. I'd hoped for new armor or cooler weapons. They weren't any better than what I had and I went in early Act 2.

Final boss: It felt ver anti-climatic. I was surprised to know I had finished the DLC because I didn't feel the storyline felt right at the end when we finally found who Tallis was looking for.

Stealth: I have mixed feelings on the new stealth feature. In one way I liked it as it gave us another way to resolve the issue and it proved to be a bit more changeling than it looked. On the other hand it wasn't executed as well as it could've been. It was sometimes really slow and I could've sneaked past on the amount of time it took to do it following the game instructions. I also felt it took some of the emotion of "sneaking" in by showing the guard range in red by their feet. I wanted the challenge of not knowing wether they could see me well or not.

Overall I enjoyed the DLC but I had hoped to be much more engaging. I did however enjoyed the new character Tallis and didn't mind at all the stealth aspect, although it needs some work the DLC showed I think a nice feature for the next game.

Honestly I was a bit dumbfounded to find that people thought there were plot holes or contridictions.
Now I will cop to not having read the whole thread (I may or may not do so) but here was my take on it before opening this thread.

The short version:
"The Arm is not The Heart" <-- Yes they both share the same 'blood' (The Qun) but that does not make they interchangeable.  (yes that's my bad aproximation of speaking like a Quniari)
In plane english a social role may dictate your occupation but station determines actions not vice versa (i.e. just because you can win a bar fight, or poison someones drink, doesn't mean you're a solider)

The  long version:
To cite from this thread thread:
"[Tallis is] not a rank per se, but certainly a description of her position within the Ben-Hassreth-- who, by the way, fall under the Ariqun. Thus a soldier within the Qunari would consider them as priests."

"[The distinction between 'fight' and 'do battle'] says more about the strict definitions that the Qunari apply to everything, I'm sure, and that applies to splitting hairs between warriors (the "real' fighters) and others who might need to fight even if that's not their purpose.

And, to be clear, Sten would have seen the Grey Wardens as an army-- thus anyone who was a Grey Warden was clearly a warrior, meant to do battle against the darkspawn." ~David Gaider

That covers the question completely and I don't see why there's any fuss or confusion beyond this point. Honestly this is the reasoning I applied before I ever read Gaiders post. Why did I think this way? Because I've read a bit of history (Asian history is one of the most relevant here) and watched/played various scifi titles (witness Babylon 5 and Escape Velocity: Nova). As a simple real world example the Samurai were a cast, warriors, and nobility. It wasn't uncommon for them to retire to monasteries later in life at which point they were no longer Samurai (this means that when their role changed they were no longer warriors or nobility regardless of their skill set or lineage.) Further there were many martial arts traditions present during the same era and many of these were developed, taught and maintained by priests (and to repeat, priests, even martial arts masters, or retired Samurai of great renown are *never* Samurai. Samurai is a purpose not a job). Some of the traditions known in popular western culture today as Ninjitsu were in specific violation of the codes and roles that made up what it was to be Samurai, however :ph34r:ninja:ph34r: most certainly have fighting skills.

The above is an egregous sumerization of a long cultural history (with a dash of pop culture refrence thrown in) but I think it servers to illiastrate the point that far from a plot hole this is actually something that not only could but in fact has occured outside of fiction.

Cheers,
Legion

ps ~ I liked the story of MotA and think it not only opens up more aspects of Qunari to view but also has some interesting implications for the future (which I won't elaborate on to avoid spoliers)

Positives:

1) Acting like Solid Snake was a fun addition. Would have loved a "Hawke? Hawke?! HAAAAAAAAAAAKWE!!!" moment. Though admittedly, that might have been too much. :P

2) The suspense leading up to the Wyvern fight, ie. seeing it jump through the trees, hearing it far off in the background etc.

3) The new monsters looked cool.

4) The new armour styles for the NPCs looked cool (really liking the Orlesian soldier look).

5) Plenty of humour, Sarcastic/Troll Hawke was gold as usual.

6) Anything that shows us more depth to the Qunari is always a good thing.

7) The last boss fight was pretty cool what with needing a bit of tactics, rather than just tank n' spank.

Negatives:

1) That bloody tile puzzle. Whoever thought that thing up must delight in the mental suffering of humans. Had to look up youtube to know what to do (maybe I was missing a codex entry or something to give hints as to what to do, 'cause otherwise I was clueless).

2) Lack of choice with the fate of the list.

I'd like to go into a bit more detail but "No spoilers" =/

My two cents:

The good:
- New environments: expansive, interactive and detailed as well. Loved how the Orlesian culture was represented.
- The Wyverns: Awesome creatures, unique and cool to fight as well. Really got the sense I was battling a living, breathing monster rather than some giant healthbar that I have to spam attack on.
- The addition of stealth - I though it was wonderful! Annoyed me that the guards got back up after you'd incapacitated them, didn't really see the point. Also could be a little improved, more stealth abilities methinks.
- Party banter, and general dialogue was pacy and interesting, and at times quite funny (SHUT UP, YOU PAINTED SHREW!). Some of the jesting responses were absolutely awful though - but only in the second half where it seemed out of place as the story took on a little more of a serious note.
- Duke Prosper and co.: Characterisation was brilliant! Prosper's movements and speech was inspired, and the grunting Cahir as well. The characters at the party were good as well, but it would've perhaps been more prudent to include a few more new people amongst all the cameos that were going off.
- The Qunari make-over - much more individual (though in retrospect, their philosophy suggests they shouldn't be). A step back, but metaphorically forward, in the direction of good ol' Sten.
- Side-quests were quite good, and not detracting from the primary plotline.
- The little things: cool armour and masks for the Orlesians, the suspense leading up to the wyvern hunt, the castle design (statues and paintings and whatnot), and that soundtrack that plays when you first meet Tallis (really dark and ominous). Cutscenes were nice and flashy too.

The bad shiz (Spoilers, not big ones though):
- Tallis. I don't like how she's portrayed as some uber-woman who can do just about everything. Especially considering the unbearable awfulness of Redemption. And why does she have to know Leliana? It's bad enough that there's 5 odd characters I already know that just happen to be at the chateau by coincedence. You can only use the 'oh, it's a small world' adage so often, and Thedas isn't even a small world! It's massive!
- Some really cheesy lines in there, like to the point of disgust. Most by Tallis (another reason for the hate)
- No good equipment: yet again, all the cool stuff seems to be worn by the baddies.
- Bit of a weak story. But, didn't really expect anything else.
- Ghasts: why bother? Darkspawn could have filled the role just as easily. Instead we've got some generic gremlin things that just look stupid.

Overall, I'd say MotA is nowhere near as good as Legacy, but still enjoyable to play and, as you can say to Prosper when asked about the hunt, 'an interesting diversion'. Please for the love of god don't bring back Tallis though.

Fantastic DLC. I think that this is the finest of all of Bioware's releases. You can tell that they've learnt a lot and it's the result of them putting together all the finest elements from everything they've previously released. Someone above referred to MoTA as a masterpiece and I have to agree. It's a gem.

I like how varied it is. You never get bored because things don't drag out for too long. It almost seemed like the game was divided into a series of chapters which had focuses that were very different from each other: a block filled with a series of fights, a block filled with a series of conversations, a block with sneaking around, a block with a long boss fight . . . I know that other Bioware releases had these elements, but, in MoTa, they particularly felt like a series of installments that varied the game nicely. Legacy was full of great, interesting fights, but that's pretty much all it was, which is fine, but it felt like I was getting so much more with MoTA.

I loved the art and design in MoTA. I was delighted with how colourful Orlais was; almost as colourful as the characters! It was a stark contrast to the grim, dull-coloured Kirkwall. (Despite how this sounds, it's not a criticism of Kirkwall – I get that it's Kirkwall's style.) I also loved the many funny lines, the challenging fights on Nightmare and I liked the new creatures that added an air of freshness. It was also a pleasant surprise to meet an old friend in Orlais, as it always is! And is it just me, or did the characters comment a lot more as they were travelling through the world?

I should probably add that I am a big fan of DA:O and DA2, so it's not like I didn't like DA2 and was easily impressed with MoTA because I didn't have high expectations or something; rather, I was impressed before MoTA and was even more impressed when I played MoTA. The only negative I can think of is that I think was hit by a bug a couple of times that made some characters move really slowly for no reason. Apart from that, I think that if Bioware keeps going down this path, we're going to have a real winner on our hands with DA3!

But don't let my positive reaction let you get complacent, Bioware! :P Keep learning and keep improving! Keep things that work but keep things fresh!

Thanks for the great fun!

Did anyone notice that Tallis seemed to be patterned After Felicia Day and not the other way around, like they used Felicia as the model for Tallis (her facial expressions and movements, hair color although Tallis had a little darker hair), I think thats why this DLC was so good, IMHO. If you put Elf ears on Felicia you would have Tallis. Great job on that btw

Thanks for another very fun DLC with character development and cool new areas. I didn't like this one as much as Legacy, but not because MOTA was bad--Legacy was just better.

I enjoyed the Tallis character more than I thought I would. I liked how I was able to romance her without it seeming too contrived--that was a surprise! I didn't want to play as her though, because although I thought I'd enjoy the ability to throw knives it actually just made it difficult to active close-range abilities.

The stealth bit was also interesting but not necessarily very fun. There was nothing at stake: Tallis just kept telling me I was making it harder than it had to be. Thanks sweetie, that's very helpful.

The different parts of the DLC were interesting, and it kept me guessing so I didn't know exactly how long the story was going to be. I wasn't as keen on the look of everything than I was for Legacy--the forest was just a bunch of forest and the castle wasn't very castle-y and impressive. I kept having to look at the map to see which directions I could go because it wasn't easy to see it in the trees--I kept running into invisible walls.

I liked seeing a bunch of people I knew there in the courtyard, believable or no, and I do wonder about Tallis' history with Leliana. It felt odd that we didn't actually find out the story there. Unless Tallis will be a character in the next game, too?

I was excited that Aveline had a private quest in the story and so very disappointed that it turned out to be pretty much nothing at all. Why?

I also think I missed something in the dungeons, with the people who were frozen as statues. I guess I need another playthrough but this one felt incomplete. The final battle was also very easy, so I was surprised it was in fact the final battle. There could have been more battles, too. Maybe at a higher level it'll be more satisfying.

In any case, I enjoyed it. I like that it was something new and different and there were risks taken with the play style.

Thanks, yes--I've seen elsewhere that it's to do with another character. It still feels incomplete, though, and I wish it didn't.

The good:

- Party banter. There were some comedy gold moments in there. Fantastic job on those, whether it's the companions' conversations with Hawke or with each other.
- Snarky Hawke's dialogue. Brilliant, especially in the context of a ridiculously snobby upper-class party.
- Two specific Duke Prosper-related jokes.
- Stealth and puzzles. Both were a nice change of pace from the battling.

The bad:

- Tallis. I'm sorry, I just couldn't. Even not knowing anything about Felicia Day before buying the DLC and not having seen any of the trailers, I found she hit all the wrong buttons for me from the get-go. And since so much of the interactions with her hinged on you liking her and/or finding her funny, or at least relatable, take that away, and you're left with being railroaded into doing things you really don't want to be doing. I also felt she blended in poorly with the rest of the cast.
- Yet another instance of Hawkefail...Seriously, is there anything that Hawke ever manages to prevent?
- If we're going to argue the Qun, give Hawke some real ammo to argue with. Pro-mage Hawkes were left with the short end of the stick there. Yes, I understand the Qun is a complex philosophy/way of life/creed. No, that does not mean Hawke either has to agree with it or sound intolerant.
- Minor peeve, but I really would have liked to see some more companion input into the jailbreak, rather than just them getting lost in the tunnels. Something more like the Fort Drakon sequence in DAO.

You can probably see that my overall impression wasn't all that favourable. Still, what I enjoyed (mostly the dialogue), I really did enjoy.

I find it a bit sad that I am reading forum reviews on a DLC before buying one from Bioware. However, that is the depthat that DA II fell to in my view. I don't have this issue for story-based DLC for Mass Effect or DA:O. Not a complaint per say, just a reality.

The new Stealth system seems to be DA trying to move in a Witcher 2 direction. I support this and would seriously like to see the best elements of Witcher 2 adopted.

I think the series of complaints regarding wardrobe could be solved by using the DA:O paper doll system and releasing a toolset for DAII. Don't like the dress? There's a mod for that. In Mass Effect there never was a modding tool, but in Dragon Age it was provided, and it DA II they took it away. DA players are expecting cutomization and it is taken away. I can understand why Bioware can't or won't address these two issues, but it just seems that they are needlessly antagonizing their client base by not providing these simple options.

Will I buy the DLC? Maybe. Depends on what the recent DA II patch has done to resolve the most annoying hack and slash aspects of the game. The reviews presented are appreciated though.

I had alot of fun with MOTA. It improved upon many of the issues i had with DA2 (and i had alot).

I actually liked the elven look on Tallis; she looked like a perfect elf IMO. The environments looked beautiful and varried. They were deffinately a step up from the standard game. The quests and battles were varried and fun to complete. The dialogue was interesting and i actually enjoyed the conversations I had. I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of lore that was packed into the DLC.

MOTA felt alot like Origins and was the most fun i have with the series had since the first game. It is deffinately worth purchasing.

Great job Bioware!

p.s.- I loved Orlesian culture and i would like to see more.

Overall, like Legacy, I had a lot of fun with this DLC!

Likes--

+Really cool cinematics, especially the animations with the ambush
+Loved the Orlesians, and maneuvering around the party to find the way into the castle. It would've been kinda cool though if there were a couple of different paths though to get into the castle (as c'mon, not every problem can be solved by getting into/implying someone getting into Tallis' pants).
+The search for the wyvern, and all the cool scenes of it kinda shadowing you as you find bait was really well done!
+Wyvern fight was pretty fun, though as someone pointed out already Tallis really dies a =lot= on hard/nightmare, and playing with her and a melee rogue hawke is really, really difficult because of this.
+Sky cult thing was really surprising and fun. Totally didn't know what I had stepped into, challenging in a very good way.
+Liked lore additions, actually getting to meet one of the Chasnd(sp?), and all the new creatures.
+Had some fun with the stealth combat, would like to see it in future editions of the series if cleaned up a bit!
+I actually kinda liked that my Hawke wore pants to the party--she looked really cute I thought. My Hawke isn't a simpering lady, she's a fighter who dresses for business!
+Like that you guys are continuing to use the viewpoints to look at the landscape. If you guys are going to work so hard to design these environments, it's nice that you're giving us a chance to enjoy all of 'em! ^^
+Sidequests were pretty fun, especially the quest I assumed was a fetch quest actually playing a role in a big decision for another quest.

Dislikes:
--Tallis. I felt her acting was kinda flat and to be honest, in most cases pretty forced(=especially= in her "omg sad moment" scene). Like, I never felt like she was Tallis, she just felt way more like "Felicia Day attempting to act serious" (and before anyone says anything like, "Oh that's because you know her as Felicia Day", it's not. I know Claudia Black and Martin Sheen as actors irl too, but in their respective games they're such good actors that I can see them as their respective characters (in Morrigan and The Illusive Man respectively)). As a result, it kinda took me out of the game a little. Maybe if she was playing a type of character she was used to playing--something more along the lines of a Merrill--she wouldn't have sounded so forced.

We already have snarky, sarcastic and sexy/flirtatious elves in Zevran, Isabella, Varric and even Leliana to a certain extent. When put into context with them, does Tallis really stack up? Like, Isabella and Zevran are basically the same kind of character archetype (sex-bunny rogues), but because of the writing and the acting on part of their respective VAs, they're very different characters, and they really make you want to learn more about them. Tallis made me want to learn more about the Quanari because they're interesting and all, but I didn't really care about learning anything more about her. Hell, I'm still not entirely sure what her backstory exactly is. Do like her design though--especially with the hood, and some of her skills were pretty interesting and fun to use.

--The over sensitive enemies on the stealth mission. I'm cool with hawke's creeping walk--makes sense since s/he can't go invisible like Tallis (even if you are a stealth'd rogue), but there were several times where I was in the shadows, well out of range of the enemies little lines of sight things, and they still raised the alarm. If the enemies vision isn't limited to the red bars, why even have them? =\\

Also the lack of consequence when you're actually spotted--you just kinda start over at your last checkpoint. It would've been nice if you have to figure out some way to either coerce the guard or fight him or something, because as a previous posted pointed out "Tallis yells at us about how we're screwing everything up, but there's no evidence of that".

--Ghasts seemed really derivitive of the Murlocks from Warcraft. Did like though how you could see their little scouts come forward and then disappear in the caves before they all ambush you (like the dwarven scounts at the beginning of Legacy). Adds suspense, and I'm happy to see it continue and hope that little element also continues in future games/dlc.

dlc was great. however, when doing the "baiting a wyvern" quest, the halla corpse does not seem to be in the location it is for everyone else in my copy. i've looked all around the clearing with the ghast holes in the eastern hunting grounds, and looked at a walkthrough which shows it as on a rock on the right hand side. not there in mine though! any ideas?

First off, I would like to say that I really enjoyed MotA.

I really enjoyed the fact that there was bonus gear for each companion, no matter who you took in with you... AND there was also the companion-specific quests for Isabela and Aveline. (much like the bonuses you get for bringing Anders and your sibling in Legacy) Keep doing the special quests! I like those a LOT more than the "give each companion an item" quest...

I enjoyed the "open" hillside where you hunted the wyverns... but I dislike that it was still a series of tubes.... on the map. But this is more of a complaint with the map in general rather than with MotA (it shows where you haven't been yet, you can't move or zoom in or out on it, it's not a pretty picture but a series of tubes, etc). The lighting effects were a little buggy here... nothing really bad or gamebreaking, but I noticed that there would be the occasional lagging while moving... which would appear and disappear sporadically, so I assume it has something to do with lighting... that kind of thing usually does.

And now.. On to Tallis!
It would seem that she was VERY polarizing... I didn't much care for her either way... but I *think* I noticed something that I haven't seen anyone else vocalize... so I'm gonna say it.
Tallis is Felicia Day's Dragon Age fan-character that was canonized.
Tallis was inducted into the Qun by a Kossith....
She knows Leiliana... somehow...
She has a bumbling Templar companion in Redemption... ($5 says he falls for her)
Hmmmm.... This sure does sound like Tallis is really Felicia Day's Warden from Origins... Specifically of the City Elf Origin...
And all throughout MotA (and to a very lesser extent Redemption) I kept thinking: Wow... she sure does seem like this is Ms. Day's Warden... with some creative smudging to make her not the Hero of Fereldon. (Knows Leliana, possibly romanced... Alistair==>Cairn, Sten==>Salit... You see the similarities?)
I think this is why some people find her as a Mary-Sue character... While others got the vibe that she's a Mary-sue, I just got the vibe that this would be what it would be like to randomly travel with the Warden from Origins...
I found it to be cute and, if I'm right, a nice insight in to how Ms. Day played Origins.

Ultimately I didn't like MotA as much as Legacy... Probably because Aveline's personal quest started to tell me something about her.... and then didn't even hint at anything... :(
And I don't think killing the Duke was necessary... I feel there could have been a peaceful solution to the ending of MotA... but "every good story arc needs a final boss"... so you have to fight the Duke no matter what........ Unlike CORYpheus... who is something that everyone agrees "really needs to die right now"... (Unlike the Architect, who is actually TRYING to help bring about peace and end the Blights...)

EDIT: WAIT! I almost forgot ONE thing!
IT'S "WHAI*VEHRN" NOT "wih*vehrn"... That annoyed me through out the module... Not even the root French word is pronounched with the soft *i* sound...
BUT, on the other hand, given that this is TheDAS, I can live with them being....... wih*vehrns.... As long as they are NOT technically wyverns.
It's the language **** in me that is where this comes from....

Thanx to some great attitude adjustment advice from these forums and some outside friends and fellow-DA fans, I just replayed Legacy last night and loved it!   I bought MotA the day it was released and am looking forward to playing it even more now.  The fans of DA are the best!   Thanx to the designers for listening to players and trying to incorporate many ideas and address so many observations... I can tell you how much I'm looking forward to DA III!!  I hope the foreshadowing throughout both earlier games (dropped implications from Morrigan and her mother, Leliana's observation that the Hero and the Champion both dropped out of sight can't be coincidence, etc.) will at least be mentioned in the new game.   Listened to the BIOWARE TV short on DA III and am a bit concerned about the combat becoming more strategy/team/etc. oriented.  As a roleplayer, I view combat more as one kind of challenge to be overcome to keep the story going for the most part (although there are obvious combats that ARE the story in some places).  I am not truly interested in becoming a 'mechanics master' in order to be successful enough to move forward in the story.  Players like me may be in the minority, but I know I'm not alone.  Perhaps make the Easy or Normal modes at least 'tactics-lite' for us so we can get it done and move on with the tale?

Dragon Age is still (loved one and two but for totally different reasons) my all-time favorite computer/console gaming experience bar none!  Thanx again to the producers AND to helpful fans!!

They all have some stellar lines (well the different combos I took along) but I'd say take a run through with Isabella and Avaline. They both have the most lines and special quests. Plus those 2 together are hilarious banter-wise. <-- probably not a real word.
