I recently got an xbox slim (against my better judgement) but seeing as I am poor I couldn`t really afford the optional 250g drive to go with it, figuring my flashdrives would provide plenty of space.
I bought ultimate edition and DA2 to go with it, but the Gamestop clerk screwed me over. Told me to buy the first game new because used games didn`t come with the dlc, and told me to the buy the second one used because there wasn`t anything to go with it yet (wrong on both accounts, it turns out, and now im short 15$ AND the black emporium. Suffice to say I wasn`t a happy camper).
What irks me even more is that so far ultimate edition has turned out to be a bust, telling me that I cant install anything because I don`t have an official HDD. What I`d like to know is if there is any way I can get my dlc elsewhere, maybe downloading it? The in-game store says I have to pay for each piece, is there any way I can prove I own it so it will let me download them individually?

I would also like to point out that the back of the case not only tells you that the game-content is downloadable, but that nowhere does it state that a HDD is required to install the content. If I can download and install the content to the MU using xbox live's own survice, why in gods name would they design the installero n the disk differently?

I'm not entirely certain what the issue you're having is; so let me ramble a bit. The clerk told you to buy the Dragon Age: Ultimate Edition new and Dragon Age 2 new; correct? I would agree that it is best to buy DA:UE (secondhand should be fine if I understand it correctly) rather than used versions of Origins and Awakening (cheaper as far as I'm concerned). Having stated that I have yet to see UE secondhand in stores where I live.
As for the clerk who gave you that 'advice', I would suggest complaining to the manager and say they were mis-selling you the items you eventually bought; see what comes from that.
Post Signature Edition Dragon Age 2 is a bit of a bust as far as I'm concerned in general; secondhand even more so as you'll have to purchase every bit of dlc if you want them.
I can't recall whether you do need a HDD for the UE in order to install the dlc. From your experience it sounds like the answer if 'yes'. For gaming purposes you'll have to get a HDD in future. I'm not sure if other flash memory XBox Slim users managed to install anything onto the memory, but there is unlikely to be enough. If you download from XBox Live marketplace you'll still need the storage space; but typically that would mean purchasing the dlcs again. I take it this is what you're trying to avoid? In which case the only thing left for you to do would be to essentially negotiate with EA support to see whether they will allow you the dlcs. Being a pessimist I think chances are slight, but it's worth a try. Obviously you'll need the bare minimum of proof of purchase to even build a case for yourself.

DA2 isnt really a problem so much, just me ranting.
Gamestop lol'd at me and told me I should have looked into it myself, and they can't refund me anything because they can't take a new game back once it's open.
With UE, my issue isn't space. It's that the dlc on the disc requires an HDD, regardless of how much space other storage units have. Microsoft gyped people who bought the slim by forcing them to shell out a 100$ for a new drive, since it can't use the older cheaper drives, or apparently flash drives according to UE. I just don't have the cash for that, and won't any time soon.
As for proof of purchase, I do have the code on the back of the booklet and my gamestop receipt... how would I get in touch with EA support? The site is an endless run-around through support forums that don't help in the slightest.

WEWT okay so EA support actually came through! Score one for the good guys! After talking with a rep on the Live-Chat, and explaining what my problem was, they game me a single use code in order to get my dlc from the marketplace, since I couldnt get it off the disc. Thank you EA!

Alright I take it back, after playing phone tag with EA for two weeks with the promises of help, they switched to origin and have conveniantly changed their minds, unable to actually do anything. /sigh. Now I get to spend 50$ on Microsoft points in order to buy dlc i already own.

Sorry to hear that. Is it possible to pick up a cheap HDD where you are? It's possible that some gamers may have upgraded theirs and sold their old ones on. Worth checking out that route first before shelling out for the dlcs again as it were.

Well what it came down to was that because drives for the slim are so expensive I bought one of the old white xbox external drives and, using youtube tutorials, ripped out the physical HDD and stuck it into the slim heh. Now the disc installs fine, but I'm still uncertain I'll be purchasing anything from EA again anytime soon.

At least it's a fix of sorts.
