Talk about bugged. Tallis has 100% magic resistance and dies to gravity ring....which allegedly doesn't do damage. GG!

I liked this quest. I like Avvar lore. I named my hound Hakkon. So when name drops like Korth and Lady Skies came up I felt special.
And I think it was difficult to be difficult. I mean, post-campaign you could be lvl 29. Tough fight. Barely made it as a Force/Blood Mage.

Obviously a post Act 3 quest since I die in 1 shot to it at level 13 in Act 2.

I've completed in Act 1, it took 6-7 attempts but it can be done. One piece of advice I was given is that "ranged DPS is your friend"

Yeah well, I still fail to understand how Tallis's +100% magic resistance still results in her death to "gravity ring" which isn't suppose to do damage.

My first playthrough it took me a number of tries. I had a warrior Hawke (not templar), Varric, Fenris and of course Tallis. It was tough.
My second playthrough I took my mage (who has spirit healer and force specs), Carver (who had templar skills) and Isabela. Between Carver and Tallis' anti-mage skills (CLEANSE is highly useful to get rid of the Sky Horror's AoE spells), my Hawke's healing and control spells and Izzy's DPS, we wiped the floor with him in one go.
So yeah...how easy or hard this fight is will depend on your party setup.

I don't even know what to say. It's complete luck to say when it will cast entropic cloud which instantly kills everyone. How do you beat that tactically? Party setup? Then how do you RP without advanced knowledge? I still say GG, bad fight setup.

The same way you avoid any spellcaster with AoE:
Don't have your entire party clumped together in one easy-to-wipe area. Spread out!

It casts entropic cloud nearly every time it decides to teleport in.

The cloud is usually cast in one section of the clearing. It's easier to run out of the range of the cloud than it is the gravity ring. What I found worked was to get one hit on the Horror when it appeared, and then individually manage each character out and away, because the gravity ring or cloud was usually next. Then, once that dissipated, I'd go in for another melee hit.
As for Tallis's magic resistance, does that apply against force damage? Maybe that's the difference...I'm not sure.

Just don't pull a me and derp up and forget to put on Elemental Aegis. I kept wiping because Aveline and Fenris were dying to the Sky Horror's AoEs... once I realized I had neglected the sustains and corrected it, it was a one-shot.
@whykikyouwhy: there's no such thing as force damage
force-y spells deal physical damage. I'm not sure if magic resistance protects against physical damage from a magical source. My guess is not, and the OP's situation (and my own) seem to confirm that?

If I'm correct the Sky Horror's AoE deals spirit damage, not physical damage. I don't know how magic resistance works. My guess is that it protects against physical damage from spells but not elemental.

^ And spirit is the most dangerous cause it cuts resistances in half.

Plus I think Tallis's magic protection skill is only against spells that specifically target her. So if an AoE is cast on Fenris and she happens to be in it, she's toast. Back to Back can be handy getting her out of grav ring, since running does not work.

Her anti magic spells suck, period. I should not be spending this much time on a fight. I spent less on the Arishok FFS. This obviously was designed for end game Hawke, and is not scaled properly...otherwise I wouldn't die in 1 hit of entropy cloud or gravity ring (which isn't even supposed to do damage...at least give it a green glow instead of the natural to let us know it's not gravity ring..geez).

Who's in your party and what is your Hawke? Do you have potions or grenades handy?

Posté 12 octobre 2011 - 02:28
Aveline, Tallis and Bethany I'm a rogue Hawke, I have plenty of health potions. But 1 entropy cloud kills me, Tallis and/or Bethany. 1 Gravity ring kills any of my party members.

Does Bethany have any Force spells? What else has she got? How is your rogue specced?
Are you able to use that skill of Tallis' where she 'gags' the Sky Horror right off the bat?

Mythal's Favor is your friend. Especially if Anders isn't around.
If he's playing it from a low level Hawke, he might not have access to that (or Fell grenades).

Screw it I restarted with spirit warding runes. Plus I got lifeward potions. Not sure why I have to do this for a arcane horror but whatever.

It is a tough battle. Hawke even says, "That was a juggernaut" after you beat it.

You could just skip that quest
But on the upside, it's not like you're far into the DLC yet.
